    I own the original RX0. The mic input on these cameras is a lot better than you state in your video. It is actually adjustable, so you can adjust the mic gain like on a large camera. The focus on the original RX0 is actually excellent once you know how to use it. It has a button on the back for near focus, and far focus. When you point it at yourself, you put it on near focus and it focuses on your face, when you point it away from you, you hit the enter button, and it focuses on far away things. I bet the RX0II does the same thing. Most reviewers of the original RX0 didn't know that, and gave the RX0 a bad review because of that, but once you learn about the near and far button, it focuses just fine. For video, I mainly use my RX0 with the Ninja V, which lets me record in 4K 30, so I don't know if I will be upgrading, because I don't think I will gain anything with the RX0II, since I think it will still only record at 4K 30 when hooked up to the Ninja V. I mainly use my RX0 for still shots, since I have plenty of video cameras. It is an excellent still shot camera since it has that huge 1" sensor, and the camera is so tiny, you can just put it in your pocket.

      Thanks for your comment! Ya I remember now about the near and far modes. But that was it...you didnt get proper AF. The RX0 ii does actually have a decent autofocus system even though it's not continuos.

      @@connormccaskill They must have fixed the focus on the original RX0 in a firmware update, because mine focuses just fine. Must of the reviews on the original RX0 where with preproduction cameras, so maybe that is why the focus didn't work right.

    Dave, love the videos, but wanted to call something out about the RX0 II. Sony does not compare this to the GoPro and does not categorize it as an action camera. Yes - it can be used as one, but is VERY different and in a completely new category. Understandably, many people confuse and compare it to a GoPro because of the size. If you want to do a fair comparison, you should look at the GoPro vs. Sony's Action Cam FDR-X3000 which has a gimbal stabilized lens! The RX0 II is so much more and fits a new micro production camera category. The RX0 II with its flip up LCD now also appeals to Vloggers, but at its core is a professional production cam with time-code, Picture Profiles (S-log2 and 3 etc.) as well as network capable multi-cam function for high-end production like frame sync bullet-time, light field arrays and volumetric. This is truly a high-end micro production camera meant to be used alone or with other production cameras and definitely should not be compared to an Action Cam type product. Let me know if you need more info or links - I'd be happy to provide.

    Just shared my thoughts about it after 16 months using the RX0 as my main camera... Some nice additions, some issues that remain. I feel like all the big vloggers were given RX0ii by Sony, several of them had had a look at the m1 version, none of them actually used it...

  • @RonScibilia
    @RonScibilia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the v1 to use as a tiny all-weather, all-terrain travel camera, mostly for stills, and for that purpose it works very well. It's a niche product but has a definite purpose. Sony should get credit for continuing to explore new directions in photography.

    I have the original RX0- I loved it and wanted to use it so much more than I did, but its weird quirks were just too limiting. I wish this had been the 1st gen version, it would've been a huge hit. Now I think the Osmo Pocket and Hero7 are much better alternatives in the same space. An RX0 III with C-AF might change my mind, though. 😉

      @@connormccaskill 100% would...I bought the a6400 and I find myself using it way more than my A7ii, just because that flip screen makes so many shooting situations easier. The A7ii lives on the shoulder rig and the a6400 does everything else.

    Lack of video autofocus and the weird stuttering effect that the combined OIS and digital stabilization gives makes it look that this is less for vloggers, and more for really portable photography, particularly in low light.
    Best way to see it really is like a tiny RX series camera, I think, rather than competition with other brands.
    For vlogging, I think a combination between GoPro and DJI Osmo Pocket is just better... unless you really need that extra resolution and shallow depth of field.
    Not that this is Sony's fault or anything... the problem is that because it's using an 1" sensor, that's a whole lot more data to process in such a small package. But the several videos I've seen so far testing this thing, that stuttering effect is really glaring... noticeably worse than a physical gimbal like the Osmo Pocket has, or GoPro's own HyperSmooth. It's glaring enough that the resolution and depth of field improvements wouldn't be enough for me to consider it overall better for most vlogging content I personally watch. But even if it was, the lack of video autofocus would outright kill any possibility there. Most vloggers I watch are on the move and constantly moving focus to show one thing or another, so it's a no go from start.
    Then again, I guess it depends on what feature you want the most, and what problems you can live with.
    RX0 II is super expensive in comparison to other solutions, so that's something you'll need to deal with right there. Lack of video autofocus is also something that will probably eliminate it for several vloggers... it's kind of an essencial thing, specially when you have shallower depth of field which will most likely result in several mistaken blurry videos. So I guess vloggers that are not walking around, have a fixed subject, lots of money to invest, and priority in low light and overall resolution. Which kinda conflicts a whole lot there. Tragically, these characteristics might make the RX0 II worse than a phone on a gimbal for most vloggers.
    But the shots taken with it are pretty impressive by themselves, which is why I'm saying this looks more like a very tiny competent photography camera than something for video on the move.

    • @connormccaskill
      @connormccaskill  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally! I think for vlogging the RX100 V is really better...and at $700...you're getting pretty close to a6400 territory which is a much better option for a vlogger.

    • @dougmorato
      @dougmorato 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kinotika hmmm. You complained about the RX0 II stabilization and then think a6400 with a terrible stabilization is better??
      If Sony fixes the C-AF through update and you mount it on a “cheap” Gimbal like G6, RX0 would crush the A6400 and would still be cheaper than it.
      Remember, Osmo Pocket also had a lot of issues with stabilization and they were all fixed after few updates.
      Wait a bit more before complaining. 🙂

    The limitations could be workable if this were a budget option, but it's $700. If you're going to make an expensive action camera, there's no excuse for not having AFC, and if you're not going to put in AFC then there's no excuse for it being expensive.

  • @AlehandrosArhangelos

    For the price it has, I would avoid it for all the things it lacks. Because you are getting closer to higher end cameras (bigger too yes) but the no C-AF, the lack of 60fps in 4K, bad image stabilization, the super tiny screen.
    Think about it, this size is good if you want to use it as an action camera and it is not even good as an action camera. So why spend more than 700$ and not get a decent camera instead (I know the price has dropped already but still expensive)? One that can change lenses, have auto focus, bigger screen etc. Like Panasonic LX10 same price range, same sensor and a ton more features this lacks.
    The only benefit of having this is the sensor size, but it is useless with the lack of many otehr features (the rolling shutter effect is also bad).
    They need to come with a Sony RX0 III and include all the little things we want and it will most likely kill gopro and dji osmo, even if it is twice their price.

      Remember the fact that on drones they are able to move a lot of the guts of the camera up into the body of the drone, allowing for the processing to take place in a much more open and big area for cooling and stuff. The RX0 ii is super small and weather sealed...so the cooling on it isnt good.

    You actually do not have the camera, and are just regurgitating the specs. What differentiates this camera is the image quality, which you do not demonstrate. The video and stills quality are much better than that of the GoPro (and no fisheye), so those here concluding the GoPro is better are not basing it on what matters a lot, which is not seen in this "review."
