Good summary of features / functions. Mine just came in yesterday and I'm loving it so far. Also found what I think to be the best way to attach a mic, I'll try to get a video up on that this weekend. Wonder how many will get frustrated over focus and not realize that you can turn the near focus on / off WHILE recording which IMO is where the true value of that mode comes in. I would love if in Single Shot AF mode you could half press to refocus while recording, that would be a nice add via firmware.....
Jake Rich A superbly informative Review. Excellent, and made even better by the fabulous Christi - you need to do more with her. She is good value. As to what you didn’t cover - is what it is like after sunset or in dim places. That f4 aperture is a worry.
Picked this up a couple of days ago. Like the update with focus able to be changed during video mode. Will take a little bit to get my head around it. Will serve it's purpose when I don't want to take the G7X Mark ii everywhere I go. You're a talented videographer and photographer mate.
@@cybereagle19 kit.com/jakerich/sony-filmmaking-kit/sony-accessory-brack - hopefully the smaller one will be listed soon, this is the only bracket they currently have out, hang tight!
At 0:45...how do I know if it has taken a photo? Answer... Last summer I handed my rx0ii over to my sisters 6yr old daughter and told her how to turn the camera on/off and how to take a picture... (hold the camera still pointing at the thing you want to take a picture off, press this button slowly and it will take a photo of it...)... Yep she understud it and ran around shooting lots of photos! And she is 6yr old.... Just saying... Easy of use is below a smartphone!
Very helpful, honest and informative review plus tips! Setting aside the Vlogging tag, how does the RX0II compare in auto-mode to an iPhone X for both 4K video and stills? I’m thinking side by side what would the average tourist prefer out of the box for capturing vacations?
Vlogging aside, it's hard to compare it to an iPhone in terms of specs as the RX0 ii offers way more than a smart phone. Knowing that the best camera is the one that's always on you, allows ther RX0 ii to compete with your iPhone for a holiday camera with it's form factor being so tiny. I used to struggle with my iPhone footage going out of sync with it's audio and didn't like filling up camera roll with loads of content from a holiday so having a seperate camera to capture moments whilst travelling is certainly valuable, weather this one is the right one for you might need some further research ;) thanks for checking out the video Mark, hope this feedback helps
Would you still recommend this camera or would you buy the gopro hero 12 (that's coming soon). I'm looking for a all in one small camera that can go into the water for my vacation videos (short clips edited together). It should go in sea water too.
I would recommend one of the new action cameras coming out this year, the digital field of view and focus range of this camera isn’t really on the same level
Great camera, love it... Why wouldnt I, afterall its Sony. Currently looking for a decent bracket to mount a micro mic and lumecube to. any suggestions?
Hey man, just purchased the whole set for my livestream channel and ill be adding vlogs as well. Good quick tutorial cuz i was getting frustrated. I just have to learn a few presets. One for outdoor and one for my indoor kinda studio setup. I did my last livestream show indoor in 1080p and it worked well. Just stock settings. It stays plugged in so i think ill try the 4k next show. Excited for that. Many thanx. So far its a lot harder to use than my gopro but the pic quality seems so much better.
Hello, how can I configure the best option in 4K with the Sony RXO II, but my videos are very blurry, could you indicate the steps in writing how to do it, thank you very much.
This may be a weird question but I am new to using my gopro to its max and I am having trouble playing and editing any of my 2.7 and 4k videos on my desk top. What is the best computer or system to do so. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for yet another informative video. I don't intend to buy the RXO ii anytime soon and definitely not at the present price point but sure will be tracking how it does in the time to come. Fingers crossed.🤞

Hi, Jake! just wanted to ask about the " internal overheating issues " ??? Iam trying to use my Sony RX0 II for filming MakeUP Videos but it only lasted for less than 10 mins then it shut itself off. second thing is that I am not able to see my face on screen all throughout filming. it turns black after a few minutes. Hope you can help me with this!
This vs GoPro 7. You will get a better video out of the rx0 but a lot of hassle. Also the focus fumbles will cause you to miss some clips. Go pro will always be in focus.
Jake Rich it strange what Sony is doing here. They have or had a great action cam 3000 with stabilization etc etc it just needs a screen and UI. So here comes the rx0 that is waterproof and tough and looks like an action cam, has some attributes of an action cam but is not an action cam probably because of the focus. So is it a vlog go anywhere camera? I guess so. I would love to play with this camera but to buy it for that price, I would rather the rx100. Interesting camera. Great review thanks for taking the time to make it
Very informative! I'm torn between this, Hero 8, or sony rx100 vii.......I must have an audio input. Using Hero 6 now and HATE that gopro audio brick. Might miss ifinite focus since there is not continuous focus on RX 0ii and of course prefer the stabilization of gopro. Plus I don't really want to shell out all the cheddar for the Rx100 vii....but I may ....How are you feeling about this little RX 0ii now....after all this time? I saw that is did not end up in your 2019 Best Travel camera vid....hmmm... Thanks again for the great content!
I would go with the rx100 vii or vi or v - if you want a great photo & video camera it will be king! the rxo 2 is really designed as a second camera and no where near as dynamic for photos and videos as the rx100 range - the prime lens just makes life a little harder (you'll appreciate the zoom on the rx100)

Really honest and insightful video. I’m looking at upgrading to a go pro 7 and was considering this as an alternative. In my opinion I want my action camera to have a much simpler operating system than this. I can use my DSLR if I want depth of field etc. I think they are trying to offer something different to a go pro but by doing that have actually strayed away from their target audience. Do the basics well, the flip out screen makes it unique for an action camera and sort the under water audio! Apologies for the long comment but yeah keep the videos coming!
Perfect camera for us minimalist but wow what a pain in the a$$ to get to work. I just want a good small camera with a flip screen. Is that to much to ask? Good grief!!! Still looking....

They have eye focus and it’s certainly has its advantages over a gopro. Get yourself a gopro if you need CAF and stop bitching about a product you probably couldn’t afford.
Lucius I see you are very knowledgeable. gopro does not have any kind of autofocus at all, its fixed focus lense. Vlogging without stab leaves you with static mounted camera footage only, any walking or moving will be unwatchable. Same goes for autofocus. These 2 features are vital for a vlogging cam.
