- This week's mutation mission in StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void is by far the most difficult so far. While juggling the different map objectives on the Rifts to Korhal map, Void Rifts and Twister keep spawning and deal incredible damage to my army.
In this video I play the "Bad Weather" co-op mission on the Brutal difficulty in StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void. While it takes several attempts to get the strategy down, eventually we do manage to beat the mission with Abathur and Vorazun.

Karax could easily defend expos and bases with superior static D and support you with the spear of Adun while you push, phoenixes are trash for something this hard imo.

I took me a couple attempts. . . The first attempt at the game I remember I just started laughing as the waves of units kept coming and coming!

Hoooly skit! It's such a blast from the past to see only *SEVEN* commanders on the Coop main screen! By the time I started playing Coop, Nova was the commander that was trending! (2 after Abathur).

I was around my 10th attempt when i beat this mutation on brutal. I had vorazun and my teammate had karax. I clear up the rifts and he only made static defenses. As we advance through the map, he set up defenses more and more foward. By the end o the game, half of the map had defenses and the rifts died almost instantly.
I don't play starcraft, but i enjoy watching this gameplays a lot! keep it up lowko
If you were curious Karax is basically protoss Swann in regards to army. Instead of a laser drill he has extra good spear of adun abilities but to compensate all his units are more expensive. The most important thing to know when playing with him is that his chrono wave is a 500% boost to production and upgrade speed for all buildings. He can also heal mechanical for free but since you main zerg it probably won't help you much.
Every Karax i play with just sits in base and only builds static defenses q_q He farms like 3k minerals and gas but fuck getting units
That's because all his units are super expensive
When you have to pay 150 minerals for a simple Zealot, and carriers being well over 400 minerals and 300+ gas, it isn't really worth it to make units early game especially since you have to suffer with only 2 mining bases max
Karax at max level though can use photon cannons offensively since they warp in instantly
Warping in a pylon, 4 cannons and 2 batteries is extremely effective at attacking an enemy position, especially if you have all the Forge upgrades to give +25% attack speed to your turrets, and +2 range to all your turrets. The most important upgrade though is the one that gives a special ability to your shield batteries that allow them to cast a protective barrier like the Immortal's one, on any building in range. I think it gives +100 damage absorption. Coupled with the energy regeneration upgrade for shield batteries and Energizer units, Karax is the BEST support character in Co-op
He also gives a flat out +15% production speed to all buildings, giving faster unit production speed and faster research
+Mateusz Smorawinski Immortals cost 375 mins and 200 gas. Colossi cost 475 mins and 300 gas. Carriers cost 575 mins and 350 gas. (Maybe not exactly but they're all stupidly expensive). Yeah you might get 3k mins, but you can only make 6 colossi. Why make 6 colossi when you can make like 20 cannons with some energizers to buff them up?
Been pretty well explained already, but Karax is mainly a support.
His combat units cost 50% more minerals, gas AND time to make, which his static defenses are very powerful.
His hero abilities (mainly the orbital strike) give him global map presence and the ability to help with attacks without building a single combat unit.
If the map doesn't need static defense he can deathball very well with carriers or immortals, as they have the repair drones and shadow cannon respectively from the campaign.
Interestingly I'd like to add Zagara is zerg's static D hero for those who did not know yet. Offsets her 100 unit limit.

It's super impressive how well you play this game and have to think about all these things at once while hitting all quick keys.

I finished this mutation the other day with Abathur on normal and i didn´t expected to be so intense. Had a lot of fun, tough my coop partner got completely overwhelmed.
Here is the strategy we used to get through that. Karax + Raynor. Karax - only static defense. Defending 3 bases. Raynor - 3 bases + command centers (mules). Raynor cleaning everything. In the meantime - as Karax you upgrade your sky and being a support for raynor in the field :-)

This reminds me of playing last levels of old rts games on hard difficulty. You are thrown against impossible odds with relentless waves barreling down on you. Haven't beaten this yet and likely never will, but it was nice being really challenged by co-op for the first time.
Just go vorazun. Everything is much easier with her. I even wonder if she can solo this mutation on brutal.
That mutation is by far the hardest mission so far, the small shards respawn so fast you actually can't do a whole lot, found the easiest commander combination is Abathur and Karax, Karax going for static defenses while Abathur's units clean up, but it's still really tough. Like it!

Strange, i thought that Kerrigan + Karax combo was one of the best. Reason being that Kerrigan make instant Nydus Worms accross the map and generates mineral/gas out of destroyed ennemy unit, solving both the mobility and cost issue of Karax's elite army in one. Sure, it doesn't look very impresive when compared to what other commanders do, yet i assure you that being granted the ability to (re)deploy your entire army anywhere needed almost at will, from your base to the battlefield and vice-versa, is very, very good for characters with costly-units like Karax.

The thing is that a good karax doesn't use army. He just builds static D, so he doesn't use the extra mobility. He needs a commander that can take everything by itself and the best army is by far vorazun's one.
I rolled over this map with Swan's goliath army and a couple of Hercules.
Swann would be amazing in this :D
Artanis's whirlwind zealots are a godsend on this mutation.
i made this mission with kerrigen and raynor (both lvl 30-35) and it was so ez in the beginning just add some bunker as raynor and with kerrigen 2 hit the rifts works pretty well!
Agreed, it is by far the most difficult mutation to date. Took my bro and I probably 6 tries to beat it on brutal.
Vorazun OP, he wrecked and didn't even make corsair which are insanely powerful too.
Corsair aren't really good in this mission, as they deal almost no damage to the void shards.
Cosairs are niche support that help against scourge waves and its auto cast to keep your rays alive.
Aron Lervin Corsair are not really for dmg. They do some aa which is nice but disruption web is OP. Also do not autocast it, that is silly. Make a control group and cast it manually as the ai spams multiple webs in one spot. I would have simply made corsair DT with a few archons for mind control. Definitely amazing. If you think corsair is niche when it can completely deactivate all ground defense structures and units, then you haven't really used the corsair properly.
Also with vorazun your corsair are permanently cloaked, and therefor come back to life on death. Niche hahaha
Well you obviously won't use them for killing ground so you know... what do you call those? Oh right. Niche. And you forgot to mention they have splash AA. And you also missed that it was someone else who said "corsair isn't good".

I feel like his allies could have done a better job with proper cannon placement.
When they switched to Vorazon his ally could have done so much more with his dark archons, possessing *heavy air* units and *observers* creating a devastating ground and air army.

Man, these seem like so much fun. I tend to always be 1 expansion behind, though, as I bought HoTS a few months before LoTV came out.

One of the problems you're having is that you frequently distribute biomass amongst your army, which you are supposed to avoid. Designate specific units to gather as much biomass as possible and keep them away from the bulk of enemies. All the other units who gather biomass will only waste progress because the enemies are killing them off too quickly, which results in loss of biomass and no Brutalisks or Leviathans. By not taking full advantage of one of Abathur's most important strengths results in a quick failure.
Besides that you are performing fairly well, and it is pretty difficult to focus with the ridiculous flood of enemies you have to face in the early to mid game, but you were able to get those Brutalisks towards the end that helped you succeed. It'd be pretty useful if you could have an advisor to help keep track of details you would otherwise miss (basically a spectator that can see everything you can and communicate with you, if not someone sitting at the same computer). On a mission like this, especially with the mutation, it helps to have great communication and awareness of the field as much as possible.
The technic is vorazun mass void rays and karax mass defences i finished it 3 times on bruta with this technique and a cool dude on battle net

Thinking Zagara's quick spawning army might be able to handle the aggression better than other commanders. Artanis too since he has max supply automatically at 15.
I think that the mutation on Rak Shir was much harder, i wasnt even able to complete it on brutal. I did this on third attempt.
I went Vorazun for this mutation. Had 2 small groups of DTs just running around and killing all the rifts :D and at that point this was not hard at all .... but it still took like 4-5 tries for me ^^
You mentioned you were unfamiliar with Karax. He's got a lot of the campaign's Purifier faction units including rezzing Zealots ,Bloodlust Sentries, and Pheonixes that can lift and fire at the same time. I feel his most powerful thing is the Reconstruction Beam, which heals 3 (eventually 4) allied mechanical units for 5/second or structures for 10/second. He brings a lot of map wide utility to the table, with the ability to spam orbital bombardment better than anyone else. All this together means Karax is great at static defense. What Karax would like to do is turtle up, tech up, and get double repair drone Carriers and slowly roll over the enemy.

I got teamed with a random Zagara and i was Artanis. I went dragoon-tempest while he massed zergling baneling. I was careful to only hit shield over charge while he ran into bases/shards and his zerglings ate everything on the ground. then final push was a massive one and we clutched it at about 1min remaining. So mass zergling baneling with shield overcharge

Im watching this as Im writing... but basically, to anyone who attempts this, sniping the void rifts is the biggest priority. You also need a decent amount of static defense at every entrance to your base. You get a considerable amount of time to kill the void shards (moreso than the regular brutal) so I cant stress enough that sniping the voidrifts is the main priority. Also, you cant be really greedy and take a quick 2nd, you'll need some troops first to hold against the rifts.
Did this on hard and brutal, managed to one shot it on brutal as vorazun paired with artanis.
I've come to the conclusion that if you beat it using, or paired with, Vorazun, it doesn't count as a win! ;)
But but... Vorazun is not that OP! Just a little bit! Also, I may have been level 80 mastery when I did it :p

try vorazun rift snipe with void. your partner need to dedicate on defense. make sure rift number does not overwhelm you. its pretty easy once you know the game.

Did you switch your SC2 from 64bit to 32bit?
Because at the start of LotV lots of people were complaining that SC2 suddenly started lagging, unlike in HotS. So it turned out that in the battle net client was automatically changed to launch sc2 on 64bit instead of 32bit.

I found using Zahara on this was easiest for me. My partner didn't do to well, but with a high level Zag, spamming non stop zerglings/banelingd was pretty easy. Just need to have your partner do a little anti-air support.
Honestly thought Abathur would be strong here *if he could get essences from wraiths*. Guess not.

As a new player, I couldn't really find any build orders for Abathur beyond the little excerpt from Fezvez. Is there anything you can recommend? I'm having a bit of confusion of when to make Queens in the mix of the roaches.
Stukov would have been great. Sadly he wasn't out yet.
I think the best commander for this mutation would be Reynor, because of MULEs.

i play zagara without AA normaly if my partner can go full AA and play on hard, but on this map i never get someone who speak on the chat, and never got to destroy the third set of void shards... at least on the mutation...

Toxic nests spread creep? Or am I seeing that wrong? I have abathur now, my girlfriend bought him for me, but I've only played him twice and didn't really look at what all of his upgrades did or how his kit came together.
Karax is really strong,well first of all he has carriers,second he has near infinite shots when he maxed solar core,500% for 20 seconds extra speed,15% extra speed as passive,carriers can repair themselves,and he has this thing called unity shield which gives every created unit extra 10 not rechargable hitpoints Works wonders with interceptors.
Karax's army is pure rubbish compared to any other commander. His job is to secure the map with static defense.

His army isn't that bad just expensive as all hell. If his ally and spear of adun can take care of the early objectives his carriers can be quite useful if you utilize the free repairs well.

You line them up for the attack wave then wait and manually activate when they are all on it because you get more biomass if the toxic nests kill it
karax's units cost way too much. Idealy you want a commander that can spawn something good early
Karax can single-handedly defend the base, and help take out the shrines with the Spear of Adun.
But he have to build turrets instead of units. Once the ally has cleaned the map Karax's job is to fill it with turrets so new shards die as soon as they spawn.

Do vorazun and karax, karax makes defences while vorazun does dark Templar and stalkers, also make sure to make outpost with void pylons, but make sure to make a lot of dt and have your karax use his abilities to take out the air. Please for the love of Starcraft 2 do not play it on mutations on brutal if you aren't both 15 or above., Please. Also Make sure to always have shadow guard available so you can take out the 1st main objective, and void rifts. Of course there are other combinations that work really well too.
I used Swann for the defense role when I beat it. It was against terran air. I mostly defended and he took out the 1st, 2nd, and both bonuses while I mostly helped using the spells. He went mostly dt and corsair and I did goliaths. He said he beat this a coupla times but this one was fastest by like 5 minutes. And we waited on some shard timers. I think goliaths are good against air so that helped at end. Depends on what draw and where the rifts open too.
yep, i could see how that would work going ot try it.
I just beat it again today against zerg air, but threw in some thors. This player did dt and cosair too. Someone below suggested defending rift popups with structures. I did it just close to expansions but definately possible cuz both times I had like 1000's of resources left. I'm not that good so just have trouble building supply never mind blanketing area with stuff. :P

i dunno, really, but i feel like the abby karax combo isn't really too good, maybe get a kerrigan instead of karax and have that early game superb unit that would help you a little bit more

I play as karrigan, i have my teammate hold the line as i rush to lurker and then push out to kill the first shard. and then i get stuck and we both get overwhelm. if some1 can give strat =)

Not it's not. He gets the exact same biomass he would get without mutators. Otherwise he would be way better than any other commander.

it is easy wen you get zagara and doo alot of units and sending then (whithout stoping) to the battlefield and destroyng every building and enemy unit that is in the way

When you're playing I have a really hard time understanding why I can hear so many APM.
For example you get your drone to build an extractor, I hear 8 button presses.
Don't know if you already know this or not since its been 4 months since this post, but a lot of experienced players continuously press the keys they use over and over because it keeps their fingers in rhythm through out the whole game, allowing them to react faster.

I thought about trying those gun turret with swan. You can build anywhere. They are pretty good at taking out the rifts and good range, but it's hard because you need to run around like crazy and also build it. But I'm not that good so if you have good split army micro, I think that's prolly the best if you want to build everywhere.
Karax was a not good one. Instead of carries he should builded more defense for both naturals and mid. And he can easily do that. Second player should carry on aggresion. We beated this map of second try with vorazun+karax.

Static Def is really bad in SC2 unless you are playing Karax, or Swann and maybe Stukov added later on

Rifts to Korhal is not hard at all withouth mutators. Even on brutal you can solo it A moving your army into the last base, and no, I'm not talking about Vorazun.
I don't get it your teammate was a karax right? if so how does he have the stealth pylon ..and at the end it says it was vorzun? but she doesn't get capital ships tho... I'm lost there must've just been a 3 player co-op lol
His teammate swapped to vorazun and used dark archons with mind control to get those units
