When I was a child growing up in Palos Verdes we would go to downtown Los Angeles to see the Christmas windows. We would ride the “red car”. I will never forget going downtown to ride them one last time before they were retired. As my daughter constantly tells me growing up in the 60’s I was very lucky
Yes, the red car was the way to get around. I heard many stories about it and also heard people who complained about RTD buses and would say the red cars were so much better. I actually came across an old token that my grandmother had saved but I think my father took it and who knows what happened to it. Do you remember exactly what they looked like?
@@makingnewdreamscometrue The red car absolutely! As if it were yesterday. I liked standing up holding onto the pole. Of course I was a “little squirt “ as my Dad would say so he sat and held onto me so I could stand. The cold breeze made it so much more exciting and the Christmas windows with all the moving parts were magical I also miss the ferry that one could drive one’s car onto to get to Terminal Island before there was the Vincent Thomas bridge. What a way to spend the best day with my dad
So glad I got to ride this. I was at Disneyland for my first time this past weekend all the way from Georgia. So happy to meet you Chris on Thursday. You were so sweet when I told you about my son Brandon. Didn’t mean to be so emotional. Thanks for all you do.
@@jacielynn3402Yes that was part of it but I lost my son 2 months ago and he loved watching Chris. It just overwhelmed me a bit. But yes Chris is very genuine.
I remember the painted desert AND 2:38 that crazy rock that rolled around .. I also rode the mules in Disneyland.. yes they had mule rides lol ALL THATS GONE !!!
I love all the old time transportation modes. Over at Disneyland the Horse Cart is my favorite . When I get over to DCA it's the trolley. I will miss it😢 Thanks for always being positive and uplifting Chris. Your little segments of positive affirmations can really make a difference to someone having a not so good day. Today was that day for me. Thanks for making my day better! 😊
The "PE" or "Red Car" was only well known to locals. Residents in the basin born before 1950 are the only ones with first had any knowledge of this massive rail system. The Red Car connected every town from Pasadena to San Pedro all the way to Seal Beach. Before WW2 there were only bean fields, citrus orchards and swamp land between these well connected towns. My Dad was born in Compton in the early 30's and grew up in Monrovia. He told me they could get anywhere in SoCal in less than an hour back in the day. Sadly the bus became king by the 60's and the Red Car was gone by 1965. Much of the current light rail system in the basin today runs on the same right of way the PE did... As always, well done Chris.....Thanks.....
Chris, I can remember back in the early 70's they asphalt over the other tracks that they had back then, because the trolleys back in those days went all over Disneyland. They even went into Chinatown in Disneyland. I'm sad to see the trolleys go bye bye,but never forgotten.
Look at that scene as you approach the trolly. It is dynamic, colorful and interesting. With potential for kinetic magic. Imagine no trolley. It is just some boring corner.
I have been on the red cars in downtown Long Beach. Mid 1950’s. What a big step up for a little girl! On foggy or drizzly days the sparks would fly where the electricity connects over the trolly.
Our family watches your videos daily! We are amping for our annual Disney trip. Your videos help us pass the time! We live in vegas but we go all out in Disneyland. So we only can go once a year. Gosh we wish we could go monthly! If you need any help in Vegas. Let us know! (Hubby is a director on the strip)
The lights going on and off with the doors reminds me of a refrigerator. 6:27 That's pretty cool. (Get it? Refrigerator? Cool? Ha!) I also thought it was neat that they let you play with all the bells and whistles. The sound effects you made before (9:02) just cracked me up! And you waited until you were the furthest away from the Wig Wag to talk about it....and had to chase the trolley back to the beginning. 15:18 Oh, Chris! Ha! I was like, "Canoe believe it?!!" Ha ha!! Nice hustle! Trolley humor is funny.
My Mom use to ride the ORIGINAL in late 30s from Burbank to Long Beach to see my Dad in the Navy I have pics in storage. I'm so sad to see sum of Walts history leaving DCA it's not so much California anymore 😢
Chris, if you go to the Southern California Train Museum they have the original 717. Every DCA train conductors and motormen get to go out and drive the original. You can make arrangements to drive it yourself. Lastly, there are two original ticket booths from Disneyland there too. Saw and learned all this from Justin Scarred.
We had a Trolley system in Hamilton Ontario Canada till the late 80's (HSR) Electric buses. The ride was unforgettable you could feel and hear the connection to the power cables.. in bad weather they would spark and crackle.. and once and a while if the driver hit a pot hole the booms would come crashing down.. and he would have to go out and manually reset!!!
I'm sad that I never got out to DCA to ride them. I worked in LA on some film and TV projects in the 00's and we filmed in the Pacific Electric Building downtown. The Terminal was converted to garage, and it was massive. I tried to imagine what it was like in its heyday. It was fun to connect with a piece of LA history. It's now a loft apartment building.
I had the opportunity to ride the Red Car Trolley from where we lived in an outer part of Inglewood to downtown Inglewood and back with my Mom when I was a little girl. On one of our visits to DCA, we rode the trolley together from the beginning stop near the entrance of DCA to the end of the line and back again when Avengers Campus wasn't even a publicly discussed thought. Will be there the last week of October and will ride it again in the hope that Disney finds a way of keeping it and just changes or shortens the route so that we can continue to enjoy it. If not, have each of the two trolleys in different spots for photo-ops.
Those are very cool. I am so glad you took the time to showcase this. It will be remembered this way. Too many "old" making way for new and I understand why. I don't have to like it but I understand it.
Im sad. Disney is slowly taking away what was California Adventure. Im thinking they might eventually change the name. I miss the big letters that used to be on the esplanade. Thanks for the great video.
NGL - I never rode the trolley but ALWAYS got my stroller wheels stuck in the rail tracks - so definitely going to be happy if the tracks are filled in
Dang I am pretty sad they are getting rid of this. Seeing and hearing this while at DCA makes the park feel Disney, esp the area around the circle. I am going to miss it. I love riding all the old time travel vehicles. In Disneyland we recently rode the fire truck. Did you know it's manual transmission?
so sad to hear that the troy is leaving us but we can ride it one last time in november when we come down the 15th -18th of november would love to meet you and your lovely wife
If they're removing the "Red car" in DCA for Avengers Campus, does that mean Judge Doom(Who Framed Roger Rabbit) works for the Avengers? Thank goodness Toon Town is out of reach
So sad losing the Red Trolleys and the infrastructure for them to make way for "Avengers Campus" which in my mind isn't even Disney. Ugh. What needs to go is that giant old Tower of Terror / Guardians of Galaxy eyesore.
I wonder if the track is the same "guage" (track width) as the trolley in Disneyland? If it is why couldn't they move the Red Car to Disneyland and switch off running the horse trolleys and the Red Cars? All it would take would be to run the fake overhead wire on Main St.
Why do they keep thinking its okay to destroy the original parts of Disney. 😢😢 i like the new rides but taking away something that is so original to DCA is not cool. The sound of the trolley is a recognisable part of DCA, I could listen with my eyes closed and know where is was. They should just run one down the main street section only. New ideas should not takeaway core Disney touches
I hope it’s done by 2026 because I don’t wanna be dealing with construction and the tracks being taken up while I’m at the park for the second time ever
Still one of the greatest disappointments about CA Adventure, no round-the-park transportation/tour. I rode the trolley every visit just to keep ride numbers up!
Another piece of history erased. Nostalgia is being eroded in favor of modern movies. What will be next on the chopping block to make way for another Hollywood 'Blockbuster' franchise?! VERY DISAPPOINTING!

And yet another reason to not visit any of Disney's North American parks. They just destroy anything that brought joy or nostalgia to the guests. That’s because Hollywood Land is the problem. It needs a complete overhaul.

Any time!
Sad is right...
Disney has forgotten it is a THEME park! If you get rid of the atmosphere, you change it completely.
Thanks for all the tips...we used many on our trip and got lucky enough to run into you at Disneyland while you were filming!
I've never ridden it, but I guess I will kind of miss seeing it driving around, although it's in the way on busy days😂

Is there any California left in California Adventure ? It seems to be quickly turning into Marvel and Pixar land.
Chris, can you do a video on the history of the various films shown at the the Disneyland's Tomorrow Land theater?

I have no idea what Disney is thinking except they're taking away the nostalgia and the Americana. It's very sad
They think they need the space where these are parked/repaired for attractions that get more people to ride.
I really thought you decided to shave in DCA mid video 😂
Instead of closing the Red Car Trolley, I feel like they should remove/ add new track and reroute the trolley to be parked behind Soarin
I wonder if the track is the same "guage" (track width) as the trolley in Disneyland? If it is why couldn't they move the Red Car to Disneyland and switch off running the horse trolleys and the Red Cars? All it would take would be to run the fake overhead wire on Main St.
Are they aware that they’re reanacting the plot of who framed roger rabbit
im finna miss hearing that bell ding

why do i feel that 's a Who framed Roger Rabbit plot line with the Red Car attraction Chris
now that's just sad.
I love this one. Wish they would save it.

Is the trolley handicap accessible. We're going in December, so hopefully we can ride it.
The stop at the HTH was at the side not in the front
That's My adopted Brother Kurt the Conductor of the 717. So sad for him that they are going to take away his favorite job.
What does the trolley have to do with with avengers campus? I don’t understand why they’re taking it out 😞
Poor California, they managed to lose the red trolley twice 😢

First Splash Mountain, and now the Red Trolley? What next?

Not to be a stickler, but it's the "Red Car Trolley", not the "Red Trolley Car"

Judge Doom finally got his wish.😢
I hope it’s done by 2026 because I don’t wanna be dealing with construction and the tracks being taken up while I’m at the park for the second time ever

Not a fan of all the changes they have planned for Disneyland, including what they're doing with The Rivers. 😔
Nothing is happening to the Rivers of America in Disneyland, they are changing in the Magic Kingdom where most visitors won’t care

The Marvel addition to DCA is not ther "Disney" that we all remember. Not a great fit. Walt would never have done that! SAD
Disney ruined California Adventure when it replaced Tower of Terror. It's all about movie tie-ins. There is very little original creativity.
