When a sneaker costs over $200, it's surprisingly common to hear the question asked: can you resole a sneaker? It's a complicated question: some sneakers just glue the upper to the sole, some stitch it as well. There are flat soles and cup soles, which have different implications for recrafting. The upper material itself is very important as it informs whether the sneaker can endure the trauma of a resole. And of course, there's the cobbler themselves. Chris Woodford, maker of the world's most luxurious sneakers, breaks it all down in this interview!

Chris is a charming chap. Another great video… I do think you have the greatest job in the world, Nick. Incredible to think of all the places you’ve been and people you’ve met during your voyage of discovery.
thanks Darren! took like 5 years to get the channel to this point but patience pays off
Even though I own some, these "classic sneakers" should be considered disposable, despite any stitching. Given all we know about resolable shoes/boots and the benefits of stitchdown vs goodyear welt vs blake stitch etc. and what is easier to resole, I think it's nuts for shoe fans to invest a lot of money into these classic sneakers given how difficult and costly it must be to try to resole these. Shoe manufacturers should make a concerted effort to just reinvent the sneaker into a goodyear welted construction, similar to Jim Green's Barefoot African Ranger, which wears like a sneaker. For me personally, I don't really like wearing sneakers but I do have a few for when I'm in the mood for a higher end looking sneaker, so I don't think I'll wear them often enough to wear down the sole; but if I were a sneaker guy, I'd just buy some cheaper Adidas/Reebok/Nike classic sneaker and throw them out when they're worn down - buying an ultra expensive difficult-to-resole sneaker seems silly to me.
I sent my shoes back to Northampton, they came back really well done. Very happy - the Shell Cordovan is amazing.
the soles crown north hampton uses are amazing. these soles are also used by an even more amazing brand ( Archibald london). the sole is called lactae havea. phenomenal comfort and ultra soft. uses french milk!!!
Why my favorite boots TH-cam channel is so quiet recently?
I have like 5 video editors and they're all on holiday! I'm also trying to film a ton of stuff before I leave town for a month - stay tuned, the backlog is gigantic!
A competent cobbler can take an old sole off and put a new sole on pretty much anything. It’s just not always cost effective because it can be a lot of work.
Will resoling help remove any squeakiness sounds the shoe makes?
Ordered a pair of Crown’s hand stitched recently. Only 13 weeks to go now…well worth the wait.
mine took that long to arrive too! just about to take them on a trip to Vietnam, hope the breakin isn't tough!
shouldn't be much (if at all) of a break-in unless you got the higher cut one, but even then, i don't think it should? mine was a regular low sneaker cut. only thing i might recommend is to use the pen trick to get the toe crease nice and uniform on both shoes - I hadn't known about that back then, so my toe creases are different on each shoe@@Stridewise
Just have them patched, like a tire.
You can resole Jordan’s
I seen it done on TH-cam, a cobbler have resoled Nike mid basketball shoes with Vibram lug sole and make it into a hybrid hiking boots. It looks interesting

Just to mention, also basic nikes and adidas have a stitched cupsole, it does not just start past 200$
Air Force 1 for example
You two look related. Lol

If it's expensive, resole it. Below $100, buy a new one.
Dang. I spent $101 😢
Probably cost at least twice amt more to resole than the original price of sneaker that you paid for
So probably not
