I’ve got two 1st gen SV650’s I will not part with. Huge aftermarket, light weight, great handling, great braking, ultra cheap to own. It is perhaps Suzuki’s greatest light sport bike ever made.
We need am hour long podcast like episode, where you two tell us all about your history together.

Looking at that bike really makes me wish Suzuki would bring back the SV650 in the S configuration. Drop the cafe racer X and bring back the S with a proper front fairing.
Love the SV650 platform! How does Gen 3 frame, subframe and swing arms compare to early Gen SV chassis as far as stability and overall weigh? Love 44t content and personalities. The best Cheers from the U.S.
Bit stiffer but more flex in certain areas and way more stable
Watched this and finally made my mind up about getting a fork brace. For a paltry 150 quid, I've got an zx6r f3 with spindly fork legs that now handles. No more delayed transition in the chicanes. Brilliant thank you👍

This is the sweet spot for racing!
So even with a tune and cams it seems to not go beyond 10k rpm redline whereas the old SV650 engine redline was at 11k and could be tuned for more. Is this because of physical changes made to the engine by Suzuki in the 2017-2020 4th gen bike or just the ecu?

Ive not long had my Gen 3's ECU flashed to suit the M4 full system exhaust. Stock redline was set at 10.400RPM but we raised this by 500RPM to 10,900, nearer to the 11K of Gen 1 and 2 models. Not sure why Suzuki lowered it but my tuner guy said absolutely no harm in raising it back up. My bike makes peak power at 10K.
I know Suzuki built the new SV650 to compete with all the rage of 700cc bikes out there, but I'd like to see them bring back the SV1000.
I'm riding an 08 SV650. I typically ride tight canyon roads and I love the power curve and torque.

It's the mantra I drummed into my then wife's (driver) head when we were road rallying. Else she would go loopy when we caught another competitor. Treating a bend with a Devon hedge as Brooklands banking does not impress the navigator / car repairer. Good luck mate !
I have a 2020 SV650 and I’d love to do a track day with it. But I can already tell, for as good as it is, needs a shock, fork tuning, exhaust, flash tune or PCV, tires, a better headlight, and a more comfortable seat. Doubt I’ll end up doing half of that but the SV650 is still a great platform out of the box. I like it more than the MT-07 but only just.
I was racing against the Gb lads on those last year.
They’re surprisingly/depressingly fast for what they are
I'm so confused as to how they manage to be as fast as they are for a Vtwin, makes no sense.

I'm building my 2000 SV650 up. So far, did the suspension swap and some other bits. Working on the chain and sprocket next. I miss racing! Your bike sounds great and that track looks fun!

Also interesting: that stock gauge pod that many have complained about that look like it serves as a pretty tidy package behind a race fairing.
I owned an SV650 briefly. I didn't think I would like it initially but it turned out to be a very good bike.

Got a stock 3rd gen SV for commuting and the occasinal weekend hoon. Great bike for the dosh! Toying with suspension upgrades but that bottom fork brace looks spot on mate. That package you have seems to have massively improved the corner entry stability. Top job.
So awesome content for me...actually this is my dream bike...I would never be able to buy expensive superbikes and this bike looks just so racey I love it, so far I am tracking stock sv650 naked, but in the future i am hoping to build something like this.....

It's always good to see SV650-based Supertwins - vast majority seem to be using Kawasaki's in Supertwins/Lightweight class these days (at least in real road racing) 👍
That's funny the kawas are big over there. Motoamerica supertwins are dominated by sv650s and mt-07's.
Al, what GSXR fairings did JHS use on this machine? Im building a stocktwin atm. In the process of getting a gsxr 750 sub frame and rear wheel before I get plastics.

Dear, i'm thinking about converting my 2020 SV650 to track only: can you tell me where you bought the fork stiffener, the race bodykit, the steering plate and clipons?
Okay I'm no racer but I find the SV650 one of those bikes which keeps in impressing me.
I think Al and James should do a budget long way down (be better than the tripe on now) and narrated by Chris, James and Al strike me as two people that love a challenge and love a laugh, I would dearly love to see something like that.

What sort of cost would all those mods be? Got to wonder if making a road going sv like that would be beat for fun on b roads.....loved the sv650 sport I had back for my first bike, only real gripe was the suspension and brakes which forced an upgrade really

What upgrades would you recommend for a 2002 carb model sv650. Did my first track day at brands and showed up a few people. Now want to throw some upgrades at her. Muchos gracias
Sv forums have a ton of examples of upgraded bikes. From full-on endurance bikes, to street bikes, to bikes that see both the street and the track.

Put it on a diet to start with, you'd be surprised how the little bits add up sometimes. Unless following a tried and trusted formula, do things gradually and understand the changes each thing makes and how it can impact other things. Also worth having the fundamental stuff right before starting, stuff like swing arm bearings etc gives a solid platform to start with. Depends how far you want to go really, lots of mods often adds up and costs more than selling and buying something faster to start with.
