Note:
The Federal Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) and Sabah Malaysia My Second Home (SMM2H) programs are currently not accepting new applications due to several ongoing adjustments and policy changes.
For the Federal MM2H program, the government is now in the process of revising these requirements to make the program more attractive to potential applicants. These revisions are yet to be finalized and implemented, which is causing a temporary suspension in new applications.
Regarding the Sabah MM2H program, it is set to launch soon but has faced delays due to the need to finalize specific terms and conditions. The Sabah state government has decided to create its own version of the MM2H program with different requirements from the federal program to attract more foreigners to the state. This version aims to be more flexible and accommodating, but the exact details are still being worked out and need to be officially gazetted before applications can be accepted.
Both programs are expected to resume accepting new applications once these adjustments are finalized and officially announced.

I’m on MM2H for years it’s great
That's wonderful to hear! We're glad to hear that you've been enjoying your time on the MM2H program for years. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us. If you have any tips or insights to share with others about MM2H, feel free to let us know. 😊
So the 150,000 MYR is required for Sarawak? I read somewhere that this requirement can be skipped if you have 7000 MYR per month income (for individual) or 10,000 MYR monthly for a couple.
The 2025 Enhanced S-MM2H program requires applicants to meet both the fixed deposit (FD) requirement and the offshore income requirement. The FD serves as a financial security measure, while the offshore income demonstrates the applicant's financial stability to sustain their lifestyle in Sarawak.
For example, applicants need to place a fixed deposit of RM500,000 in a local Sarawak bank and also meet the minimum offshore income requirement, which is RM10,000 per month for individuals or RM15,000 per month for dependents. Both components are mandatory to ensure that participants have sufficient financial resources to contribute positively to the local economy while maintaining a comfortable standard of living.
@@OfficialMM2HResources Thank you very much for taking the time to reply!
Can you make a video on how the fixed deposit shall be used ? Is it mandatory to use it for buying a house for instance ? And what about the taxation on fixed deposit ? Thanks !
Sure!
Thanks for the video! Are both Sarawak and Sabbah visas renewable ? For what duration ?
Both Sarawak and Sabah visa is renewable every 5 years
Would you please make a video as soon as SMM2H program reopens ? I've noticed that the page where to find the list of SMM2H accredited agents is still blank. Thank you!
Certainly! We'll make sure to keep you updated on any developments regarding the reopening of the MM2H program. As soon as there's official confirmation and the list of accredited agents is available. Thank you for your interest and patience!
I hope more foreigners will choose sabah as their second home... 🙏🙏🙏
Absolutely! Sabah offers a unique blend of breathtaking natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and a warm, welcoming community. It's an ideal spot for anyone looking to experience a serene lifestyle while exploring vibrant biodiversity and enjoying modern amenities. If you have any questions about living in Sabah or the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program, feel free to ask.
How about dependent criteria between Sarawak and Sabah programmes? Under 21?
For both Sarawak and Sabah, the age limit for dependent children is generally under 21 years old and they must be unmarried
@@OfficialMM2HResourceswhat happens to my kids after 21 years old?
Something I've never heard mentioned. If you spend the required 30 days in either Sarawak or Sabah, can you stay in KL or Penang the rest of the year?
Yes
yes, both Sarawak and Sabah MM2H allow you to live anywhere in Malaysia. Ms. Liew (Sabah Tourism Minister) mentioned that Sabah-MM2H holders must obtain “approval” before traveling to West Malaysia. She explained that these holders need to apply to Sabah’s immigration authority for the necessary approval first.
Would you suggest to begin the visa process remotely or to be physically in Malaysia for that ?
Starting the MM2H visa process remotely is entirely feasible and often recommended. You can gather all the necessary documentation and complete the initial application steps from your home country. This includes submitting your application to an authorized agent or directly through the official MM2H website, depending on your preference. However, please note that new applications for the MM2H program are not open yet, as the government is currently revising the requirements to make the program more attractive to potential applicants. These revisions are yet to be finalized and implemented, causing a temporary suspension in new applications. Once your application is preliminarily approved, you might then consider visiting Malaysia to complete any remaining requirements, such as medical check-ups and opening a Malaysian bank account. It’s always a good idea to consult with an MM2H agent to get tailored advice and ensure a smooth application process.
Thank you. Is the SMM2H visa program application suspended too ? Because I've seen that the web page to official visa agents was non accessible a few days ago...
@@francois2266 The official webpage issues might be temporary due to maintenance or updates. However, there have been some recent concerns regarding the renewal of agent licenses as highlighted in this news article: www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/04/1040465/motac-urged-address-s-mm2h-agent-licences-renewal-issue-quickly. This might be affecting the accessibility of the official webpage. I recommend checking back on the site later or contacting an official visa agent directly for the most accurate and current information.
Thanks. Any update as at August 2024
You're welcome! For the latest updates on the Sarawak MM2H application, you can refer to this link: mtcp.sarawak.gov.my/web/subpage/webpage_view/49
Let's say I apply for SMM2H visa and I come with my 14 years old son. Will he be abĺe to go to school? What will happen after 5 years ? Are there possibilities of high level studies in Malaysia ?
Great question! When you're on the Sarawak or Sabah MM2H visa, your son can indeed attend school here. Malaysia offers a variety of international schools that provide excellent education opportunities for expatriate children. After 5 years, you can renew your MM2H visa to continue residing here. As for higher education, Malaysia is home to numerous well-regarded universities and colleges that offer a wide range of programs in English. These institutions are recognized globally, providing quality higher education and research opportunities.
Could you please make a video presenting the schools and universities offered in Malaysia? This could be relevant for future expats (like me I hope) having expectations about their children education. Thanks !
@@francois2266 Sure. Stay tuned for the upcoming video!
Yes
Is it a problem, if there is no valide salary slip of monthly income but profit from own company of MYR 1.000.000 every year??
Thanks for your question! For the MM2H program, proving your financial stability is crucial, but it doesn’t necessarily have to come from a traditional salary slip. If you're earning profits from your own company, demonstrating this through your company's financial statements or profit declarations can be an acceptable alternative. Consulting with an MM2H agent can help you ensure your documentation is in order.
Do you have to buy a home?
Sabah MM2H Property Requirements:
All applicants must purchase high rise property with minimum RM600,000 purchase price.
Sarawak MM2H Property Requirements:
no requirement to purchase property for applicants above 50 years old, while applicants below 50 years old need to meet one of these requirements in Sarawak: property purchase (minimum price of RM600,000 for Kuching and RM500,000 for other divisions) or have children continuing study in Sarawak or undergoing long-term medical treatment in Sarawak.
So a potential retiree has to be prepared to put in almost a total of USD $200,000 before even living anywhere.
Definitely sabah and sarawak are better
Absolutely, Sabah and Sarawak both offer unique charms and attractions that make them stand out. Sabah's stunning natural landscapes, including Mount Kinabalu and the pristine beaches of the islands, along with its rich cultural heritage, are truly captivating. Similarly, Sarawak's diverse ethnic communities, the lush rainforests of Borneo, and the opportunity to explore traditional longhouses offer an unforgettable experience. It all depends on what you're looking for in your destination!
the new MM2H wont work with requirement of mandatory property purchase... they should make a separate visa for 50+ retirees
Yeah. Property purchase in Sarawak is compulsory for those below 50 years old. Exception for Sarawak participants (30-49 years old), if participants children continue study in Sarawak or participants undergoing long term medical treatment in Sarawak. New MM2H for federal and sabah now required all applicants to purchase property.
Isn't it the hottest debate because the climate is extremely hot and humid? Do most expats confine themselves to 24/7 air conditioning?? Getting worn out from that climate isn't great for quality of life.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, the climate in Malaysia is indeed hot and humid, which can be challenging. Many expats rely on air conditioning, but adapting activities to cooler times of the day and staying hydrated helps too. Exploring cooler highland areas can also offer a pleasant break. Adjusting to the climate is a key part of the expat experience here.
@@OfficialMM2HResources I guess it's easier the younger you are. Or if you lived in Miami, Houston or New Orleans. But others of us just wouldn't be able to handle it. New York is very humid from the end of June until the middle of September. But it isn't that long.
@@dovygoodguy1296 Indeed, adapting to climate conditions like humidity can vary greatly depending on one's previous experiences and personal tolerance. Those from cities with similar climates may find it easier, while others might face a significant adjustment. It’s always a good idea to visit and experience the climate firsthand if possible before making a long-term move.
@@OfficialMM2HResources You're right. Maybe if I were 20-30 years younger I'd take the plunge to try it without being sure, but at my current stage I've got to consider alternatives. My first choice had been Cuenca Ecuador, but now there are too many challenges there unfortunately. The weather there isn't humid. Otherwise Kuala Lumpur or Sanur have a lot of appeal. Alas.....
Why would any one wane foreign government control its money in return you get very little, no path to Permanent Resident, no path towards citizenships, no work permit. What Malaysia is looking for is cash cow
Thank you for sharing your concerns. The MM2H program, like many long-term visa programs worldwide, has specific criteria and restrictions, which can sometimes feel limiting. Here are a few points that might address your concerns:
Path to Permanent Residency: The new MM2H Platinum category offers a pathway to permanent residency. Although it is not yet official, it has been announced by the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2023/12/990920/new-and-improved-mm2h-platinum-gold-and-silver-categories-introduced
Financial Control: The requirement to have a fixed deposit in a Malaysian bank is intended to demonstrate financial stability and ensure that applicants have sufficient funds to support themselves while living in Malaysia. This requirement is part of many countries' efforts to attract financially secure individuals who can contribute to the local economy.
Work Permit Restrictions: The MM2H program does allow applicants over 50 to work up to 20 hours per week in certain sectors, but it is not primarily designed as a work visa. For those seeking employment, other visa categories might be more appropriate.
Benefits of the Program:
Lifestyle: Malaysia offers a high quality of life with relatively low living costs, which can be very attractive to retirees and those looking to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle.
Healthcare: The country has a well-regarded healthcare system, which is a significant consideration for many retirees.
Cultural and Natural Attractions: Malaysia boasts a rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, and diverse attractions, making it an appealing destination for long-term stays.
Alternative Options: If the MM2H program does not meet your expectations, you might consider other countries with residency programs that better align with your goals, such as pathways to permanent residency or citizenship.
It's essential to weigh the pros and cons before making any decisions about long-term residency programs.
Why would u want to give up own citizenship ? Same as Thailand retirement visa above 50yo ( abt USD 21K deposit), this Sarawak visa is abt USD 31K deposit. Reasonable for retirees who just want to stay long term, hot weather and enjoy lower cost of living.

@@johnhg_myaus Excellent points! The financial requirements, such as the deposit you mentioned, are indeed substantial but are designed to ensure that retirees can comfortably support themselves without needing to work locally. For many, the appeal of year-round warm weather, a lower cost of living compared to many Western countries, and the rich cultural experiences make it a worthwhile trade-off. It's all about finding the location that best fits your lifestyle and retirement goals!
For Sarawak, those over 50 yrs old aren't required to purchase the property.
