You can not compare prototypes (312 P, 330 P3/4) and GT (250 GTO). They're not the same cars at all...

When I was a boy, I would go with my dad and uncles to Sebring every March. Nothing sounded sweeter than Ferrari V12s.

The design of that car is so spectacular. I only can imagine the reactions back in the day when it was released. Glad it was driven in this event like it was designed to: really fast!

I still have my Solido model of this car. One of the most beautiful race cars ever! Chris Amon drove the open Can-Am version of this car at Longford in 1968 when I was 11 years old. The up changes out of Newrey Corner, 2nd, 3rd, 4th then grabbing 5th & 182mph down the flying mile and then down shifting to low gear at Mountford Corner will live in my ears forever.
Hey! I can relate to this. I was totally into motor racing in those days, with Chris Amon actually being my favourite driver from those times. I did get to see him win at Sandown in 1969, in the Tasman Championship. As far as Longford circuit goes, it seemed that the only safety measures in place were "don't crash". The drivers from those days were fearless, and the times themselves were legendary, from the perspective of motor racing.
We got to witness some of it.
Sounded great at flat out down Conrod that year as well ( over 180 mph) with Bill Brown behind the wheel.
Also Spencer Martin in the LM 250 flat out the same meet.

@@jeffkeeley4594 The P4 stayed in Australia that year with Brown driving it in the AUS Sports Car Championship. Scuderia Véloce also brought both cars to Longford in March with Brown behind the wheel of the 250LM. It was hailed as a showdown between Amon & Frank Matich in his awesome SR4 Repco but Frank didn’t show up! Alas it rained buckets on Monday race day, the crowds stayed away & Piers Courage won the Tasman Cup feature race in a F2 McClaren M4A. Unfortunately, it was the last ever Longford!

I found the race results, it raced in three races...
Seems like it had problems in the first one, as it finished 13th...
But it had no such problems on the second and third races. Finished 3rd on race 2, and won the 3rd race!

Like Herbert Von Karajan said to Enzo Ferrari once “Your 12 cylinders make a symphony impossible to emulate”
This car pioneered the 'lay down' driving position used nowadays by F1 cars. The reason was obviously to lower the drag coefficient and allow higher gearing for the Mulsanne Straight. Also it was meant to run alongside the 5 litre monsters that were still around at the time and with less power and torque from its F1 derived 3 litre V12 the low profile bodywork helped it to keep up. As you can see, it was so low that a 'Gurney bubble' was fitted over the driver's side to allow him to sit higher and see where he was going. The only other enclosed car to get anywhere near the Ferrari lack of height was the Alan Mann 3 liter Ford GT P68 which at 2ft 11inches (90 cm) tall. Those were the days when a Ferrari sounded like a Ferrari!
Stirling Moss, in the Climax-powered Lotus 18. won the 1961 Monaco GP using a 'lay down' driving position long before the 4 litre Ferrari sports cars. I thought that it was Phil Hill, a particularly tall drive, who required the 'bubble' in the roof.
Heard this car hard on the throttle out of the Mulsanne corner then echoing in the woods at 2 am. I mean I had proper eargasms. Although my ears still hurts today 😅

Here is a guy who owns a priceless piece of history... and he aint skeered 1 fracken bit to drive it like he stole it!!! Fracken awesome= the way cars should be= in motion.!.!.! Unlike what will happen to most of those 112 sold out new Countach's.

That Lampredi designed, long-block V12 makes a wonderful sound as it approaches 8,000 RPM. My memory may be playing tricks, but I recall them having a slightly oily exhaust.
Wow, what a fantastic looking car. Love it. What a sound. Now that is how a race car should look and sound. I definitely need to see this car on a race track, any ideas where /when ?

Today's kids have absolutely no idea how cars like this impressed kids of 55 years ago. There was a technological leap between 1965 and 1970 that made these UFO like race cars appear on the scene. One case in point is the Lotus 72 F1 car introduced in mid 1970, and it changed F1 design forever. Still, today a modern F1 has essentially the same structure layout as the Lotus 72.

Really good looking race-car- even as my personal favorite is the later 330P4 - however -both Ferraris had been beaten hands down on the tracks at the Mulsanne by the epic Porsche 917K and Ford GT40s -the LeMans winners at the time . Fact!
