No, shade smooth recalculates the shading. Subsurf multiplies the vertices, averaging them out. Shade smooth won’t change the shape. If your laptop can’t handle 2 sub surfs, you prolly will have tough times ahead with blender.
Cheers for this great video Theo! I bought the texture pack last night and managed to do the tutorial no problem... it only took me 11mins to render out,, but it looks great and will be amazing in my final animation...
I found that a cool realistic way to make an atmosphere is using the sky texture you can even set how much air there is and dust and sun settings! I would definitely recommend this
Hello, great tutorial, simple and well explained..but I'm having trouble with the clouds, I don't have that same result at 5:35, the clouds are just not showing up! What could be the problem?
It could be because you have the atmosphere layer still toggled to visible, make sure to click the eye icon to hide that while you setup the clouds. :)
@@THEOexr if possible, can you DM and explain a bit about the license of purchasing items from the link you have? I would like to use to make an animated short.
Great tutorial! I got planet pack, only issue I’m having is getting a good atmosphere glow around the planet. The composite nodes didn’t work as well as yours seemed to either, at one point it was just rendering white, but I added another viewer node and then it worked.. Trying to work through rings tutorial now, but again it’s not looking as good as yours even with same settings, so something is off on my end I guess
I don't know if you ever figured it out, but I had the same issue. It was because I only scaled up the Cloud and Atmosphere layers in the x direction and not y and z.
Can you also make a video on how you created these textures? This was the main part I was looking for, because it matters the most for the end result to be honest. Also, can you zoom in, in your node window next time? I cant read anything you do.
Dude, nice tutorial, but for real when you make tutorials use a 1920 x 1080 resolution so we can see the interface properly. In all your tutorials for C4D, and now Blender, the interfaces are so tiny and hard to read, is really bothersome for the eyes. In Blender you can rescale interface to 1.5 to make it visible. Take this into account for future tutorials please, and keep up the good work!
Great video but i am stuck. When I add the atmosphere it makes it impossible to see the land mass. I figured out this if i hide either the clouds or the atmosphere it looks great but with both i cant see anything. what could i be doing wrong ?
@@THEOexr I am having the same issue, mine is connected to the volume, density is at 15. I can only see the landmass when i turn off either the atmosphere or the clouds layer.
Very informative. Does the composition still work when you are rendering a Video like a short 250-350 frames. Another question i wanna ask is how do you set the right FPS for this space scenes?
Looks awesome Will try with some of my own photos. Btw, if you have any tips on how to make like a Nebula image in layers so you can mvoe camera into the nebula would be appreciated. I did a test earlier but i get some tint on each layer that makes things not so pretty. (Want transparent parts to really be transparent)

please don't speed up when you make settings.
This is sooo underrated!
My laptop wants to freeze up adding the subdivision surface modifiers, would it be fine to just shade smooth instead of using this modifier?
Yes
Yes
idk why he didnt do shade smooth its so stupid lol

@@Duuude9448 not at all. Shade Smooth doesn’t change the shape. It recalculates the shading of the normals

Awesome tutorial thanks!
Man, am serious this video's gonna be Viral in some days

Interesting. Do you know any good videos about it? Thanks.
This is such a fantastic tutorial. I'm working a space themed video and this helped me to create a really great looking alien world!
at 4:21, we need to get textures for the planet. Where exactly do I get these textures?
It looks amazing!

Where can I get planet textures from if I have not purchased the Exoplanet pack as of now?
perfect 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
how did you add the camera peerspective window?
I have an issue with compositing: glare just doesn't appear, same for blur. I connected everything right, but glares and blurs are invisible
did you connect them to the viewer node as well
Thank you, that helped so much, but the halo around the planet doesn't show up for me, what can I do?
You are the BLENDER GOD, help us, little mortals, create massive Planets
How do u subdivide in the beginning
Also amazing video
This helped me realy much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for adding compositing to your tutorial!

Hey, i would like to download the assets used in the video, but i think the links doesn't work
Great video man!
Where did you get the space ambient noise? I wanna have it on while I make my own planet...
There is a part where you chose to use subdivision on all the spheres, why do that instead of smooth shading?
I suppose for ultra-detail. If all your rendering is a planet, that wouldn't be a bad way to go. I don't think it's necessary though.
I get black lines down the center, presumably due to the atmosphere and clouds overlapping. What is the fix for this?
I don't know if you ever figured it out, but I had the same issue. It was because I only scaled up the Cloud and Atmosphere layers in the x direction and not y and z.
im getting a weird issue with my cloud layer i was wondering if i could get some help.
Set Alpha Hashed in the material panel?
Starting 10 second✨
I wanna see Blender/Octane addon workflow. Any videos planned for that?
BTW: "atompshere"? :D
i’m a little confused at 1:33 you said to change the scaling to 1.01 but then made it 1.001 i just did the latter
great video but I noticed you didnt change the texture from "flat" to "sphere" this gets rid of any stretching on the bitmap
I'm using a NASA texture file and it must already be for spheres because it looks perfect on "flat" and if I change it to "sphere" it looks stretched.

Tank you !
how did you put in the pictures in shader editing???
Thank bro!
very nice
Is it possible to transfer to unity software with all this quality and display in augmented reality?
Hi I used your tutorial it’s turned out crazy but…Do you have a tutorial on how to animate a planet?
Thank you
how do you bring up that menu to increase the segments of the UV sphere? It doesn't automatically pop up when I create it.
textures download link not working
thank you thats a like and subscribe from me you sir, are the man
Why can’t I find the path tracing in blender
Its because you must be using newer version of blender with cyclesX. CyclesX has an updated system, you wont see path tracing as a selectable option.
This is very valuable, thank you
Thank you so much dude❤
thank you very much , for the lesson ! help me a lot

Bro you're so good but can you create a video creating every single planet in our solar system? It can help many people like me. LOVE FROM INDIA ❤️
can someone tell me where i can get some pbr planet texture please
why is there 3 viewports?
I can't seem to find the exposure node in my blender version 2.91.1
same
how do you make the sun?
So am I the only one that can’t find that doesn’t have the path tracer????
Did you end up finding it? Because I'm stuck on the same issue and no one talks about it.
I haven't got it either. There's 'path guiding' but no 'path tracing'.
256 samples for the viewport? Are you nuts? Who has a computer that can do this?
Stuck on 1:50 I need fucking help 😂😂😂😂
As I'm a noob you completely lost me when you added the texture to the surface. So I had to stop there.
