Escaping the Masses on a Bank Holiday Weekend | Brecon Beacons National Park
This bank holiday weekend, due to me having no car and also to escape the madness in the busy areas of the National Park, I walked from my doorstep to a remote and peaceful hill that's situated in the south of the central Bannau Brycheiniog - it's a hill that has an interesting landscape and is peppered with a lot of Bronze Age cairns. I was treated to a perfectly still night and a thick fog rolled in and shrouded the hills that surrounded me. It made for a rather eerie but beautiful evening.
Thanks for stopping by,
Ryan.

Hiking The Length of the Brecon Beacons National Park
มุมมอง 2.4Kหลายเดือนก่อน
The Beacons Way is a 100 mile linear walk that runs the length of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. The walk includes 16 summits including Pen y Fan, Fan y Big and Fan Brycheiniog. It passes through some wild and remote countryside with some tough terrain - it's definitely one of the more challenging hikes I've completed. It took me 6 days to complete the hike, but I would recommend to mayb...

Earned a sub from me, loved the way you checked everything before letting your dog in and for cleaning up to an incredible standard. Never understand people that can carry stuff to a bothy or on a hike or to the beach etc but can't bring their rubbish back home when it's lighter. Never stayed in a bothy but there's a lot to be learned from your video. Stayed for a long weekend in the area in an out of the way place, beautiful area, I had always called it Elan like the way you pronounced it but have heard some people referring to it as Ellen valley, wasn't quite sure which was correct . All he best.

Thank you for the sub and welcome to the channel. It's a great little bothy this one, I've had a couple of great stays there. Funnily enough, I've recently discovered that it's pronounced El-lan (L+Lan) so I've been pronouncing it wrong for years. It's funny as I hear most people pronounce it as Elan, like we do. ATB, Ryan.

That stuff is legal now in many states here but that does not make it good. I did have some friends who did hard stuff though. I told them numerous times to stop but some did not listen. Are you mainly of Welsh ancestry man? Most people are mixed especially these days. My dad's side is mainly Irish and my mom's side is mainly Italian. I'm sure I have some other European descent also but have never taken one of those DNA tests. I admit my Irish side of the family loves to drink and party and so do I LOL. I have been watching some documentaries about medieval Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. Man they drank a ton of alcohol. I mean of course throughout history many cultures have and still do. I'm not saying it's right it can definitely take its toll on a person's health after a while.

I'm all Welsh, mate. All of my immediate family are all Welsh too, as far as I know anyway. We do love a drink over here, not just the Welsh, but the Scottish and Irish too. I used to enjoy a good drink in my younger days, but not anymore. I'm quite happy to just enjoy a can or a nice whisky on one of my camps - like you said, it will catch up with you sooner or later.

Hi mate, doing a wild camp on or around table mountain this weekend,do you no of a safe place to park overnite,i no there are car parks in the crickhowell town but are they 24hr and safe?

    • @wildaboutwales
      @wildaboutwales 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

Hiya mate, I would say the car park in Crickhowell is safe, but I don't know if they are 24hr, sorry. There's an Indian restaurant (Red Indigo) on Brecon road, I just looked on Google Maps and they have parking spaces at the front and rear of their building - you could maybe ask them if you can park there for the night. Another option is, just down the road from the Indian, turn left into Oakfield Drive and there's a few dead end streets there, it's a safe looking quiet area - maybe you could just park in a street there for the night. That's also near the route up to Table Mountain from Gwern-vale. Other than that I don't really know of anywhere. Good luck and have a good one!

Oh thanks for your service Ryan. I'm so proud of the generation my Grandpa was from. They call that era the Greatest Generation. He was fighting nazis at 19. I can only imagine what he dealt with. Of course I am also thankful towards other servicemen who have been in other wars. My Grandpa had it the worst though. If it were not for men like him we would have lost that war for sure. We would all probably be speaking German and would be under some kind of nazi regime. Let's hope a Third World War does not happen buddy. The U.S. is having a lot of tensions with Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. If that happened most would have to go depending on age and health. I would volunteer but I'm kinda getting older. I'm almost 40 and have had some injuries. I'm not sure if I would see combat at my age but if they wanted me to I would. I mean the Vietnam War only drafted ages 18-26. I think it will be alright but these days who knows buddy. Let's hope peace can prevail.

Oh hey Ryan did you say you were in the Military? My Grandpa was in the Second World War, my Uncle was in the Vietnam War, and had some friends who were in Iraq and Afghanistan. They all saw a lot of combat. They did not like talking about it much. Sometimes they would tell things after they had some drinks though they dealt with a lot. My Grandpa died years ago he was a great guy. My Uncle is still alive he is in his 70's now. Of course my friends are still alive.

Oh great video Ryan the names Spencer by the way. I'm the guy from California. You have been in the wild many times like I have. I was wondering have you ever seen a U.F.O.? I know some people think it's crazy to talk about this issue but that's not true anymore. In the United States a lot is going on about this. I mean many T.V. shows, a lot of footage is being released, and many credible people have been testifying in front of Congress about what they know and have seen. Many of them are ex-military and current military. You should look up the name David Grusch he is one of them. I saw one when I was younger and it changed my mind about many things. I heard the U.K. has had many sightings over the years. I think the public has a right to know about this.

Nice peaceful overnighter there! I was out wild camping on the Quantocks on Sat night with one of my dogs, a sunny afternoon, relatively warm night and deer barking and owls hooting to keep us company amd then a cracking sunrise for a 7mile walk back in. Never saw a soul. Always nice to get away from the crowds!

I totally feel you on that one, Chris, that sounds like a perfect night's camping. I haven't explored much down that way, just a small 3 day hike on the Mendip Hills 3 years ago. Maybe I should put the Quantocks on my 'to do' list. Thanks and ATB, Ryan.

I can recommend it - a small area and more of a linear walk but some nice views and it is so quiet - definitely not a crowded area!! 30 mins drive for me luckily as we have a place nearby. There's a great wooded track called The Drove Road which is beautiful in the setting sun. We're 10 mins from the Mendips so often there with my dogs and then Dartmoor is about an hour and a half away. Strangely I haven't managed Exmoor yet though!

Brilliant video Ry. Nice to see you local, it encourages others to realise there are other places to Pen y Fan 🤦🏻 Drives me mad that everyone only goes there thinking it's Everest😁 I know lots of people that only do that one. It's crazy busy. I think it's good you are making your own grub at home, everyone does the packets, you are different doing your own and bagging it.👌👍 Crazy strong can 9.2% must taste like aftershave.😂 That whisky sounds nice finished in red wine barrel. Book sounds brilliant I'll look in to that. Thanks. Brilliant story. Had no idea about the cairns there and old burial ground. Amazing. I've been Twmbarlwm quite a few times, it's only small but great views on a clear day are great. There's loads of history to that, but they are not sure of what exactly it is. You made me laugh when you said the cloud is over there and you had it clear and no crowds. Great watch. Keep them coming butty.👍

Thank you once again, Jamie. I can't beat the large crowds and places like this are so much more enjoyable as they're wild and barren. The Brewdog was a great tasting IPA, worth a try. Try and get your hands on that book, mate...I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Take it easy, pal.

Toby is the most chilled dog I have ever seen.... what a wonderful companion. It's been a very long time since I have been to that trig and only once ever - I started from a pull in on the far side of Llwyn On reservoir. Seeing your footage of the area it as a certain feel that you find in that area of the two other trig points you mentioned and I would say Penwyllt in the west to Mynydd Llangyndir in the east, lots of sink holes and a wild barren feel to them. It's an area that is definitely the quietr part of the Beacons..shhh. I think I recall the Christin Lewis story but didn't realise he had done a book - its on my list to get now..thanks. atb Alan
