It’s too bad that after this movie, two legends have died. Robin Williams and Blue Sky Studios. It’s very sad to having known that. (I do like how the main character is a robot Obi-Wan Kenobi though)
So if I'm remembering correctly, Robin Williams did in fact do improv for this movie. It's kind of his thing, and as has been done before for him, they animated around his improv because it was too good to leave on like an outtake DVD. When you don't have everything animated or put together, it's not as difficult to go back in, do some rewrites, and reanimate. Still time consuming and costs money, but Robin's schtick was worth it for movie studios, and it shows because people, well, love his schtick. Lot of movies made better by his improv work. The whole opening of Aladdin with the salesman was literally improv'd and they animated around it. Literally handed him random objects and said go nuts. He provided the dialogue, which gave a visual description, and they animated that. Easily one of the most memorable scenes in a film. I'm trying to think what in Robots was an improv, and I believe I heard about the party scene. Most of Bender's lines at the party were improv'd in the booth.
I love how, no matter what, no matter how much time has passed or how little of the movie we remember, we ALWAYS remember the Britney Spears scene... xD
18:21 you are correct Angelina!, that scene were Fender was singing SINGIN IN THE OiL is a parody and reference to one of my favorite number one musical movie's of all time, SINGIN IN THE RAIN (1952) if you haven't seen this classic musical movie I've highly recommend it to you.
This movie was a big part of my childhood! 7:04 Thank William Joyce for the stellar world design. He was a writer and Producer and Production Designer for this movie, and he is also the author of the Rolie Polie Olie series of books which then became a Playhouse Disney show of the same name! Small world, huh? 15:00 Yes, they did! Without Disney screwing him over (there's a video that goes into the whole controversy), he could do a LOT more improv this time around, and he absolutely kills. True, it's not the Genie, but, hey, it allowed him to be more creative!
I think I remember seeing Robots back in middle school and had two toy sets where you build them and one of them was Ewan McGregor’s character he voiced but it’s been a long time. Also I liked him as Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars too!
Ah she remembers the Amanda Show. That reference really shot me back I don't remember much from it, but I do remember the mom stuck in a hot air balloon forever
Hearing Robin Williams say "big anime eyes" is just awesome! I watched this movie before I even knew what anime was😂 I wonder if Robin Williams knew of anime? And if he did, what did he watch?🤔
I'm picking up major similarities between the first chop shop scene in this movie, and the fairy godmother's ruined factory scene in Shrek 2. The way they have the bad lady ruling over all her underlings, and then the son strolls in casually ("Hi mom" vs "Hello mother"). And both moms are round, and both sons are tall and shapely. It's basically the same scene.
Most people think robots can't feel pain, but according to Claptrap in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, robots actually feel pain in slow motion... with great intensity. Also, Angie, no one's laughing AT you... we're laughing ABOUT you.
This movie is incredible, plus sooo many good lines. “rough day?” “Just remember there is another one coming tomorrow!” Or *hears a chicken, “That is the sound of the deep do do bird!” This is an amazing movie

I remember playing the game to this movie as a kid and it was so much fun. First and only main character of a movie I've ever seen with the same name as me. Watching this with you brought back so many buried memories
I watched this movie in the theater when it was released in 2005, and still to this day it’s been in my top all time favorite movies list! This movie is criminally underrated! It still holds up coming up on 20 years later! Nothing about this movie is clunky or anything, and the sound effects for all the actions are just perfect
In my opinion, Robin's funniest acting, plus mostly ad libbed if I remember right, best line in the whole movie is him random saying "ow my onion" when Rodney scares him
"Thunder Thighs" is named Lug, his name is in the cast and credits Also Wonderbot has crippling anxiety and he is so relatable to people watching the movie
"No, stop, they're making them dance like in a dance number!!" Oh honey you aint seen nothing yet. That being said, glad you watched and loved this masterpiece! Seriously underrated movie.
Amazing Reaction Angelina and happy to see you react to Blue Sky Studios _Robots._ Even I'm impressed with not only with the voice cast (Ewan McGregor, Robin Williams, Amanda Bynes, Halle Berry, Mel Brooks, etc.) but also the amount of hidden adult Jokes this movie had especially when rewatching it again as an adult, so this film could rival the other hidden adult jokes utilized in other animated films such as _Shrek._ Hope you react to Blue Sky Studios' other films soon: _Ice Age 1-5, Horton Hears a Who, Rio 1-2, Epic, The Peanuts Movie, Ferdinand,_ and _Spies in Disguise_ In addition, if you love Ewan McGregor, you should definitely react to _Obi-Wan Kenobi_ and _The Mandalorian_ once you get the chance soon.
The evil mom robot is professor slughorn from Harry Potter, there's also drew carry and Amanda Bynes and few other well knowns I think j-lo too if memory serves me
This is one of my favorite Laundry Movies. I can pretty much quote the whole movie, get all my laundry folded, and enjoy the art design of William Joyce (the guy behind Rolie Polie Olie, Meet the Robinsons, and Rise of the Gaurdians). One of my other fav Laundry Movies is Speed Racer, have you watched that one?

16:41 ange, you’re too wholesome for this planet, the answer is both. You’re the commentator to see a movie with in person that I’ve seen among many many movie reactors/commentaries
Model? Maybe. Animate? Not exactly. It is just as hard to animate characters with hard surfaces. There's a lot more clipping you have to avoid, and depending on how complex the machinery is, you have to animate all those little mechanisms. The thing that made them "easier" was the metal shader.

Here is a fact about "Robots" that people may or may not know about: Natasha Lyonne from Netflix's "Russian Doll" and the "American Pie" film series did the voice of Loretta Geargrinder, aka Fender's love interest. So basically, as an adult, I realized that we have two actresses from "American Pie" who did the voice talents in "Robots", which I think it is my favorite Blue Sky Studios animated movie.
RIP to Robin Williams and to the voice actor of Rodney who passed 2/19/2023 of aortic valve complications arising from cardiomegaly (enlarged heart) he was only 28 😢
This was one of the first English speaking movies I watched. I remember loving it so much that my mom bought the DVD for it and we played it so much that the CD got scratched by the player.
What other animated films should I do next?
you should definitely watch the clone wars 2008 and even that is animated
Have u done any of the ice age movies ??
Idk if you can do Netflix animations, but Klaus is a great movie for Christmas :)
A chrismas carol is a good one.

He was taken from us way too soon…..
It's already been 8 years. Damn.
Robin Williams will forever be apart of my childhood and growing up
Oh wow I didn’t even realize it was him
You need to put the years behind Robin's name, not Fender's. You're making it seem like Fender was born 1951 and died 2014.
Such a great movie, but sooo underrated, so glad you gave it the appreciation it deserves
"We were using our arms!"
I'm surprised everyone who's made it to this scene hasn't pointed that joke out
