Drum n Bass / Breakbeat

- sites.google.c... is a short clip of some practice of up-tempo Drum n Bass / Breakbeat style drums. I modified the sticks with some zills for some stochastic sound, and generally play it free form. In the real world I would be using a metronome to keep things honest, but it gives you an idea of the styles I'm working on.
I think this video changed my life.
Some of the hardest stuff to play is downtempo, in-the-pocket groove. It doesn't get much attention, but it's a different kind of challenge. Also, playing stuff with ostinatos and independence may not sound as interesting, but is a mental workout...
2021 i come back to listen again
arcovk Same. Always come back here for this glorious beat
Same, it's the nuts
2020
I spent more time than I care to admit looking for this again today.
This is the first youtube video that i’ve liked.
This singlehandedly got me into drum & bass. Still after all the Pendulum and Baron, haven't heard anything quite like this.
This is more jungle based then straight dnb, listen to some shy fx, dillinga. Uk dnb artists.
Try some of Aphex Twin's work thats even more crazy like lornaderek
ghee4345 look up Current Value's albums
I strongly recommend u to listen to PARADOX (Dev Pandya)
Paradox - 66-32N
Paradox - Existentialism
Paradox - Hologram
Paradox - Drum Machine
Paradox - Eternalism
Have fun!
Check out Blue Planet. Love the quick snare work and short rolls.
The style came from the Amen, but there are lots of variations. The Amen Break is a very specific 4 bar sequence, but by no means invented that particular groove. Similar rhythms are found in African drumming from way back. That same groove is found in hip hop, alt rock, among other styles. The most interesting dnb to me really reinvents with creative grooves, such as Plug or KJ Sawka. Just like anything, we're all using the same basic voices and vocabulary to create new sentences in music...
This is authentic and quality drum and bass. He is killing those amen beats. Absolutely outstanding. If you love this, you need to listen to jungle, dnb from 93 to 98
what would you recommend?
Excellent! 8D You know, what amazes me with these breakbeats is how they've done a full circle - human drumming was sampled, cranked up another 100 BPM, creating a blazing sound with chops never heard before, and now human drummers are emulating what was once tweaked up on a computer and it sounds even better! 8D
Still listening to this periodically since 2006. Still fucking love it
Covid 2020 when you need to just chill. Buying my 5 years old a set tomorrow on line. Come on next lock down.
Kingsley McCorry 5 years is a good age to start exploring on drums! I’ve found that around 7 or 8 they really start getting it together and can play to a lot of songs. Good luck!
This is singlehandedly the greatest video on the website
Wizard Level: Jedi Master.
this was the first youtube vid i ever watched back in 2005...still the best breakbeats on youtube.
Did you ever expect to have Thís many views on this video??
btw...still awesome after all these years!
Not at all! Just a fun practice video just to get a little content up. TH-cam has changed a lot since then.
It's his body language that finishes this clip just perfect. He is indeed a god on drums, he is in full control of every hit he does, and in a steady tempo, AND it sounds amazing!
you are my favourite drummer on TH-cam cos you have style
HOT DAMN!! I'm glad I found this. This is pure raw talent!!
I love drum 'n bass, and this is so nice. Keep up the good work. I hope you'll make more of this.
I've seen this when it came out, and every now and then come back and listen to it, loving it :)
I 've seen your video in 2006, and it inspired me since... Good job man
Dude I saved this video like 15 years ago I come back his breakbeat ability is crazy
i watched this vid a few years back when i started laying drums, now that i can finally play ghost notes and finally play technical stuff your vid is better then ever cause i can finally appreciate the awesome beats you jam cheers man you should keep up the sick work!
Love this video! Especially the breakbeat at 1:51
Had me shook
RESPECT!
Authentic,Esoteric, and with the knowledge of REAL DNB.
A lot of drummers can drum but don't have the knowledge of what happened in the council estate flats with bedroom producers chopping up breaks and programming to sound live, funky, and also unique.
This drummer knows the style, the rolls, and the feel.
I missed going to the acid house scene I was too young as with Hardcore Scene but Jungle/Drum and Bass I was there so Big UP!
Don't have time to write out tabs right now, but I have 3 suggestions:
listen to Plug's "Blue Planet" album.
work through Johnny Rabb's Jungle/Drum n bass book.
practice a lot!
Old but gold
May I sample a piece of it?
Sure. Just send me a link to it when you're done.
+skchalivethailand I had actually tried to sample down a piece of it and make a track with it, and I could've done it if the system wouldn't have crashed. And yep, the cam rip quality is not the best thing to work with, but still it may be improved with some specific plugins such as noise reduction etc.
@@simongrozov1801 or a compressor...
time for the annual rewatch, nice to see y’all again
Sample packs?
i still cant get over how good this guy is, unbelievable!!!!!
BEAST!!!
What a groovy guy! excellent time keeper, musical sense! And his left hand is perfect!
Are you still active on here?
IdolMike I also wanna know
Yep! Post more on instagram though. Same name, so follow me over there too! I'll be posting another video soon. Let me know if you've got any requests...
Fantastic drumming. I write DnB, and I've only ever used loops. Listening to an actual human improv around the general idea is incredibly inspiring. Props to you for sure.
Sample tiem :)
After 6 years I had to comeback to this video and thank you for introducing me to Drum and Bass. Or at least something very similar to it.
It is now one of my favorite genres of music and fuels my creative work. Thanks again.
one of the first video on youtube! :O
Uh, not even close?
I am in awe of your skills. just wow!
This is just...
Words can not describe how great this is!
2021 and I came back to listen again. Love it!
Can I use samples of this please?
Pretty please?
LostIceCream No problem. If you make some interesting stuff with it, send me a link!
I've probably watched this vid about ten different times. I'm impressed each time! Love the mini symbals and the way the drummer shakes his head to the beat.
That is so freaking cool
Never forget a classic
you're probably one of the only drummers I've ever heard, that i would listen to without any other music to it, your style is so tasty man. even bonham gets a little boring when he goes on his tangents, but this was like the most interesting thing to listen to by itself, i just wanted it to keep going. thank you.
Amazing, beautiful! 1:50 !!! I almost got up and started freaking jumping around!
15 years ago!? That can't be right the quality of this video is so good for 15 years ago
it's like medicine for my ears...
respect for doing this mAn
the last bit with the 6 mini cymbals on top of the hi hat is so banging
waaaaaaaaa!!!! Love that little tambourine on top of the HH!!!! And your SD got very sweet tone too!!!! Superb!
i cant stop watching this its just amazing
so curious and wanted to ask :)
What drum snare is that and what drumhead does it have by the way?
It sounds so crisp :)
now that's wot i call drum n bass!!!
big props goin out to u man, respectttttt gangsta
very nice! plaese cant you explain what kind of paradiddle or exercice do to play this style? sorry...my english is very bad
Joche Lito It starts with a mix of the standard paradiddle and #6 from Stone’s single beats page (rllr lrrl). Add in som buzz strokes, some standard 8th groove with buzzes, and speed it all up! Listen to Plug: Drum n bass for Papa. That was a big inspiration. (You can find it here on TH-cam)
@@Edwordless thank you very much
this video still puts a smile on my face! possible watched over a hundred times. theres no longer jungle rooms in raves (screw EDM festivals) so youtube helps keeps it alive
Pretty cool man, it was fun jamming to your playing.
Fantastic. You are truly an artist at what you do.
That was awesome (my jaw dropped open in awe at some parts with the fading in and out on the cymbal!) :D
as far as i know acid house is a part of the house genre, and dnb is originally from reggae.
Even though it is electronic.
and house is a subgenre from techno which includes all diversity of electronical music. please clear me up if I'm wrong^^
1:41 OMG. that sounds awesome man.
Those breaks are sick. Damn I need to set up my drum set already
so many great musical ideas, i inderstand everything you said.
This is the first youtube video that i’ve liked.
Do you have an HD copy of the audio available for download? I love the sound of DnB with live drums and would like to experiment with it.
Love your style man. I always come back and watch this vid. If I could play drums, I'd play DnB for sure. You rock braddah!
This was just what i needed, you've got some awesome techniques. This would make Squarepusher stare in awe
Man... You fuel my love for drums.
There's so many worthless negative comments floating around here, and that's really quite a shame. Love your sound, man. People get so wrapped up in genre and how cool it is to listen to music that it's easy to forget how nice it is to just hear some nice playing. Great job, and keep up the good work. I love things like this.
So interesting and inspiring!
Did you compose it?
Have you composed more?
I would love to know!
Happy composing!
1:49 to 1:54 So amazing ! simply brilliant and awsome !
Seriously good stuff,wicked drumming man!
gotta love the head movement everytime he freezes when he hits the tamborine
thanks for helping with visualizing dnb on a drum set. u the man with that snare fill
Anyone watching in 2018? If not, SHAME! You, sir, are the personification of beast mode
man the sound on your drums is just so good too
It's his body language that finishes this clip just perfect
FUCKING BEAUTIFUL, MAN! I thank you for making this video, and the universe for bringing me to it. Keep doing what you do! ^_^
This is that real Og DnB!
This needs a cow bell.
Also, I'd love to hear some Steve Gadd-like fills in there :P they'd fit in nicely
Is there a difference between drum an bass and Jungle? Btw good stuff man.
at 01:19 and later he plays the hi hats so fast and sick i just love that great sound oh my gosh
the reason why i´d love to play drums..!!!!

Hi man! Really good performance!!!
I like the way you play HH and the Hat-strick!!!
nice, nice, u just can beat seeing it played with your own eyes
you play like a jazz poet riffs out his rhymes and rhythms. sporadic and exciting, dynamic and catchy. fuck yeah
The whole thing is awesome! But the last 56 secs is the best bit imo.
WOOOOOOO! Brilliant! gotta love the real stuff.
