Hello and welcome to Saabkyle04! TH-cam's largest collection of automotive variety! In today's video, we'll take an up close and personal, in depth look at the Lotus Esprit V8.
During this presentation, we will take a 1st person look at what the vehicle is all about beginning with the start up, performance data, fuel economy, the occasional track data, and build quality. Also, I will teach you how to use most of the interior and exterior features in a detailed fashion, that before, you could only get from going to a dealership yourself! Throughout the video, I will highlight key styling and unique differences about the vehicle, any available options, and of course it would not be an enthusiast car video without the good ole engine portion with rev and exhaust note with interior and exterior perspectives. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHANNEL SEE BELOW: In this channel you will find in depth educational videos of automobiles from all over the world, presented in a more detailed fashion than ever before. Basically, this gives the viewer the chance to view the most detailed 1st person look you can get without going to an actual dealer yourself! Every video is consistent in the way I present so viewers know what to expect in my presentations. I treat every vehicle with the same respect whether a 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS or the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador. I film all types of vehicles from past, present, and future while broadening the knowledge of the automotive enthusiast. You will see everything from vintage, brand new, exotic, mainstream, old, etc. I am very proud of this channel and have built it up from amateur videos years ago to what you see today. I wanted to share my love for the automotive world with the rest of the world. Be sure to explore the massive video variety, have fun and enjoy The Driver's Seat of TH-cam!

I feel like modern supercars have completely lost their elegance and beauty. Now supercars just look "sick" but lack that special something. These old cars are just beautiful and just so raw feeling. Countach, diablo, esprit, nsx, etc. all those old cars just have such more meaning and thought behind them I feel like. To conclude this comment, Lamborghini has lost their shit. Props to Ferrari for not following Lamborghini's path of mass producing batmobiles.

***** That's true, the p1 is a beautiful car. Mclaren is doing fine, still i miss those wedge super cars

Dylan Bailey Lambo is owned by VW thats why Germans bastards wants to plant computers and controllers in every where at every selected function ..to gain ruining business later as supplying computers and controllers as they are coded and hard to duplicate ......i know the raw feeling that you talk about , no emission restricts far away from stability control , wheel limited slip , adaptive suspensions ...blablabla all 400% shit

I dunno - I remember when this generation of Esprit was new, and it felt a bit watered-down, compared to the original sharp-edged S1. They were better cars but the process of making supercars less extreme was well in train even in the late 1980s. I imagine they're also limited by a mass of safety legislation.

***** Murcielago SV is my favorite Lamborghini of all time; LP670-4 was the last Lambo flagship with the Original 60s era Lamborghini V12 and a six speed manual.
The Aventador LP700-4 was designed by Filippo Perini, an Italian, so I'm not entirely sure I get what you trying to say by adding Germany into this equation. VW Group provides cash and some interior, nothing more, to Lamborghini. I miss the rawness and naturalness of old though, the Aventador is a bit too classy for a Lambo.

i didn't mean the outside design lines , i said German are always complicated type of people and thats why their industry are complicated however the lambo is italian but italian engineers still apply their prospective project cars proposal to the VW head department waiting for approval and this vw wont approve it if its way far than their vision of car industry - stability control , radars , night vision , distotronic adaptive suspension , variable individual torque , gesture commends , see this is a pure crap german always selling us .....did you get me now?

My thoughts: This has be driven while listening to the Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 Amiga soundtrack!
I always wondered how much money Lotus invested into their works racing programs (F1 and sportscar racing) yet did seem to invest next to nothing into development of their roadcars. It was also very strange that the Lotus Esprit, which had the awesome looks of a 200 mph car, didn't even break the 186 mp/h/300 km/h barrier and had less horsepower than the Opel Omega Lotus (aka Lotus Carlton).
I guess the glove box had to give way to the passenger airbag, as was the case with nearly all cars developed without passenger airbags in mind but a long enough production run to still be in production when you needed to offer passenger airbags in order to stay competitive.
Listening to it in this video it starts to sound good from above 3500 rpm - I like it!

With a few modifications on the gearbox and only 100hp plus it runs 192 or 309km/h. Look at PUK lotus esprit racing.

Yes, Lotus were planning a successor to the Esprit in the early 2000's and the engine was used in the old Esprit as an interrim sollution. Some design studies were presented but Lotus didn't have the funds to make a new Esprit back then so the model died in 2002 (I think).
Like you said the bad Renault gearbox limited its potential.
For a car which still retained much of the original 70's Esprit it handled really well in the mid 90's.
The shape of the Esprit made it stand out. People loved it

You know how you see a lot of younger people on exotic car video comment sections saying "I will own this car"? Well, that was me in 1990 saying that about this model of car. I had a poster of a silver one on my wall for years. I never got a Lotus Esprit, or anything close to it, but the good news is that the older model Esprits are very affordable now so maybe one day my dream will come true. I'd rather have a '90 than a later model anyway, for nostalgic reasons.

I love this car...and this is a great review. I have come close to buying one a couple of times and ended up with an Elise instead which I love. He hit the nail on the head with the Qs about the Renault transmission...that was the stumbling block for me. The engine is rock solid and can produce 500hp reliably, which is amazing in a 3000 pound car...but if the transmission is going to crap out, what's the point.

I've had six Lotus, including the two I have now. A 1965 Super Seven Cosworth 1500, ans an S4 Esprit. Lotus are fun. The Esprit is the old man version. My S4 is pretty stock but still goes pretty well. We ran errands all last week in it, and didn't use real cars at all. Its practical for going to the market etc. It has a trunk that holds stuff. The top roof panel comes off. The Esprit is pretty, comfortable, inexpensive, and difficult to work on. By a good one that has been used regularly. They suffer a lot from buyers who can afford to buy it, but then do not keep on top of the maintenance. A valve adjustment and cam belt change on my 4 cylinder may cost 2 to three thousand dollars, every 30 k miles. Oh well. Its fun.

The 3.5 V8 is Lotus Engineering unit from the get-go. History books say it was planned for some sort of sport sedan which was scrapped. Instead of wasting the engines already built, they shoved them into Esprits.
The engine's true throughput is roughly 500hp, but the Renault sourced gearbox craps out over 350hp, so the car makes 350hp. Pity; it could've destroyed 355s, NSXes and 911s in its days.

I'm surprised that, in a detailed review, there's no mention of the fact that there's a fuel filler door on both sides. There are actually two fuel tanks -- one on either side of the engine bay -- and a pretty cool system that interconnects it all so you can fill both tanks from either side.
