Who Exactly Is Firefly? | Honkai Star Rail Lore

- In honkai star rail 2.0, many new characters were introduced when the main character first set foot on Penacony. You have shrewed businessmen, memokeepers, stellaron hunters all of whom have their own agenda and alliances. One person we meet is Firefly, a girl who seemed to be from Penacony. The more we travel with her though the more mysterious her circumstances become and it seems she might even be related to someone we know. So in this video we are going to discuss who exactly is firefly and is she perhaps a pivotal player in Penacony.
Some part of this video comes from the actual lore while others may be speculation on my part as we currently do not know the full story. As such take it with a grain of salt as the point of this video is just a deeper dive into Honkai Star Rail lore.

There’s the fact that Firefly is a little too perceptive. Sam is described to have superhuman perception, and Firefly is able to perfectly describe Sampo, walking stye, weapons of choice, etc. At one point she also sees the TB’s bat and comments on how “inefficient” it is before cutting herself off. The Glamoth knights were described as having short lives, could that be why Firefly has her condition?
I actually think that sparkle plays a bigger role than you think. I think the Gallagher interaction is sparkle in disguise to throw people off of firefly being the stowaway. Then she turns into Sampo to follow you. I also think the firefly in the dreamscape with you after sparkle knocks you out is sparkle in disguise. She put firefly into a different part of the dreamscape. That’s why swan is surprised to see her, because she didn’t kick you and firefly out. She actually kicks you and sparkle out of the dream.

When firefly looks at you, I feel that expression is more "it's the trailblazer! they'll help me"- because of the way she smiles at us, it's like she knows us (from being a stellaron hunter)
Among the things Firefly revealed to us on that rooftop is her awareness of the various factions in and around the search for the Watchmaker's Legacy. She knows of the Mad Fools and their Tavern, of Aventurine, of Black Swan and the Garden, and even the "Galaxy Ranger."
Some can claim this could point out to how well she knows the Dreamland by now (assuming she wasn't lying about her length of stay), and some of these info are probably someone well-informed about things happening in the HSR universe would know (and she could be from a family of means? The treatment for Entropy Loss Syndrome can't be cheap).
But Firefly also knows about the Music Box invite to the factions; she mentioned its question to us, after all. In fact, she implies she HAS one. And we know from Aventurine and Black Swan that there's only ONE purloined invite, which is what Acheron used to get in.
But how can she be a stowaway if the only stolen invite is with Acheron?
And how come Acheron, despite her invite being supposedly stolen, got in using someone else's, when the Nameless were given a hard time on the basis of just swapping one member for another? Shouldn't the supposedly strict whatshername Reverie staff wondered why Ifrit looked like, er... someone not on fire? And alone?
How can some simple girl who's "just" a stowaway have access to a known mass murderer like Sam? Remember how Welt described the mecha member of the Stellaron Hunters? And we all know it's only the Trailblazer they all seem to NOT hurt on sight. Why would Sam - he was obviously "mecha" - even work with this girl?

Yeah I don't buy that Acheron stole an invite, either she had one originally, or she forced herself in with her weird choice-changing powers, which would mean she doesn't need an invite in the first place. I'm not quite sure what being a stowaway actually entails in regards to Penacony, is it entering the dreamscape via a different method? Since as a stowaway you wouldn't have a room.

I'd also like to add that Firefly couldn't see clocky, with the requirements being kind and whatnot, and as we've seen Sam is almost definitely overly violent or heavy handed compared to the other stellaron hunters, so it quite literally would make sense if she was Sam/ connected to the suit
Thats true, it does seem the condition to seeing clocky is some form of childlike innocence though it doesnt necessarily mean evil though. Given she mentions her hometown was destroyed and having a tough life and stuff maybe shes just lost that innocence. Or she could just turn out to be really evil..
My theory is that Firefly might be the the Empress of Glamoth: Titania, which would explain her connection to Sam as Titania controlled the Iron Calvary of Glamoth(which Sam is stated to be a part of before he was a stellaron hunter) like a hive mind with her as the queen bee. This would also explain what Firefly said about her hometown being destroyed by the legion or the swarm as Glamoth was at war with the swarm which was the reason for the Iron Calvary's creation
Firefly said she had a dream of a scorched earth and Sam's ult is called scorched earth operations.
Titania is also the name of the faerie queen in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Fireflies are likened to Faeries in plenty of media.
Titania is the queen of the fairies in A Midsummer Night's Dream of Shakespeare, and fairies are generally depicted as flying balls of light, somewhat like what a firefly could be... This is a somewhat tenuous connection, but exist
I wanted to include this idea in as well as the lore in the glamoth orb and rope references a lot about mechanized warriors and welt mentions something related to sam in that vein as well but I just ended up not doing so because I felt we knew too little about sam. I might bring it up in a video about sam that im working on though as its a pretty interesting possibility
Have you tried Penacony's side quests? They're all very good. There's one that introduces a new Genius Society member. We get to see new sides of Herta and Screwllum from it too. The ending of the quest does seem like a foreshadowing for Herta and a possible conflict with a certain faction.

If it's not entirely obvious to people by now I'm not sure what is. For those who lack reading comprehension:
1. Firefly mentions she suffers from Entropy Loss Syndrome, i.e she's slowly dying
2. Blade mentions Sam is seeking life, opposite to himself, who wants death.
3. Her name is literally Firefly, and the only other Fire type character besides Gallagher will be Sam in upcoming patches.
4. Firefly and Sam share the same colour scheme
5. Firefly is looking for the Watchmakers Legacy, which could be a Stellaron. And we've been told the Stellaron Hunters are on this planet. It's obvious.
I think Firefly didn't lie about her conditions; Sam is her 'cold medical cabin.'
Also, that death creature really, really wants her dead; it had almost no interest in anyone else. The first time 'death' grabbed her, she was not scared but hesitating about something, until Black Swan showed up. I think she was about to summon the suit at that moment.
In her final "death" scene, she said, 'I am sorry.' Sorry for not letting Trailblazer know about her identity, I guess? Note that she had no wounds after being stabbed, not like Robin...
I am pretty confident that she is alive and hoyo is going to make her playable and my wallet is so doomed
There's a trailer which has her reappearing (Unless it's a flashback), and it has her with a scar on her cheek (Would say it looks like corruption, but it's hard to tell from the ambience of the scene)
During the fight when Sam say ''once your back to the real world, remember to tell everyone About the stellaron hunter behind your ultime departure''
That sentence in the french trad is said as if Sam was referring to himself as a female.
Hunter in french goes ''chasseur'' for male and ''chasseuse'' for female. But when Sam says it, it say ''chasseuse''. Implying Sam is a girl

I also think Firefly is more akin to a conciousness that can take control of Sam's suit, I think this because when Firefly was talking about her disease, she said things like (and im paraphrasing here) how in the dream world she could experience things in HER OWN body. I could be misremembering here, but it seems like she doesnt or hardly has a physical form and no one has seen her physically which is odd.
Also the way she "died" was different to Robin, Robin had a very visible wound whereas Firefly did not even though she was impaled all the way through, I think this is intentional.
I really want to know why Robin was where she was when she died...

Also, there was a small red-orage light that flew away while she was dying unlike robin.
She said she doesn't have to stay in "that mechanical/metal healt cabin" inside the dream. This is probably reffering to the sam.

I personally think that sam has built in safety protocalls for if the pilot is injured. sam is firefly and they arent just suit and pilot
Firefly very clearly laid it all out when she explained her illness. Entropy loss syndrome. Your body fades, your connection to it wanes until your reality and dreams blend together. She tells you that in the dream, she can touch, feel, see and experience the world with /her/ body. That implies in reality, she can't experience those things, specifically with her own body, she needs the Sam suit to operate in reality. Like a Heliobi or energy being that requires a vessel to do things.
When she was struck, there was no wound like Robin, and she evaporated into liquid, specifically the dream liquid it seems. Later, she likely reconstituted herself in the form of Sam in order to continue her goal oh hunting down whatever it is she's after.
I think it's possible that the Watchmaker's Legacy is an artifact that can manipulate time, and would therefore be able to cure Firefly's illness, which is why she's working with the Stellaron Hunters. I'm basing this idea on Misha's gameplay ability to stop time with his technique and his apparent connection to the Watchmaker.

If the trailer's anything to go by, Firefly DOES have a wound - but it's on her cheek, and looks reminiscent of Honkai Corruption
Another theory I saw ppl discussing in other places, is that when firefly was "killed" she was actually "imprisioned" by the Something unto Death meme's ability (like when you fight him, that brings your characters hp to 0) and that's was her objective because when she was about to getting killed she said "sorry" to the MC, maybe because either she didn't wanted the MC to see this or she actually wanted to make the MC investigate further just like she was doing. That imprisioned thing also probably applies to Robin too.
I believe she was imprisoned too, as in the children’s book ‘Sam and the firefly’ gus (the firefly) was captured in a glass jar. He also changes his ways and regrets being mischievous earlier in the story. Hence firefly saying sorry presumably for something she did we don’t know about.
Im not surprised if thats the cause as the whole idea of death in the dreamscape hasnt really been fully explained. I mean even when robin supposedly died, her brother mr sunday mentioned it akin to a spiritual death, but then his reaction seemed like she died permanently. The same goes for firefly as well, everyone reacts like shes really gone but id imagine if u died in a dream youd just wake up given thats what seemed to happen to the MC at the very beginning when acheron helped "wake" the MC. So its definitely possible

It was when firefly was able to size up sampo so perfectly that I began to get suspicious of her, his height, how he walks, potential skill with a knife etc, was very strange. Then when she gets grabbed later she looks like she was about to do something but doesn't, finally there's the trailer scene where she's falling and glowing then we see sam with the green glow coming out which funnily enough isn't there when sam first fights us and acheron.
There is something I've noticed when rewatching her "death" cutscene: there is a little golden light leaving her body, moments before she turns to memory bubbles.
I wonder whether that appears during robin's death, need to rewatch that
I know it's a superficial observation, but Firefly's bowtie accesory at the front of her outfit is orange and in an X shape, just like Sam's powered up form
It’s also interesting how she mentioned everyone in the roof. The fool, the IPC ambassador, the memokeeper, the ranger, etc., but she did not mention the Stellaron hunters at all. The other group missing is the Flame Mansion people, but looks like they aren’t here yet or won’t even arrive at all.
So I found it weird how SAM is the only one she doesn’t mention.
What if just what if at the end of the story, Firefly completely loses her physical body and says her last goodbye to the TB in the dreamscape as she no longer exists in reality. And if the Firefly is Sam theory is true then Sam will serve as a reminder that Firefly once existed, all that's left is the iron suit and the AI controlling it.
Man wouldn't that be heartbreaking 😭

Firefly said at some point that she is after "the watchmakers legacy" wich starts to sound more and more like a Stellaron to me.
So far my theory is: Consciousness without body and is trying to use Penaconys Stellaron to change that.
I think the situation between Sam and Firefly is more like with HuoHuo and Mr Tails, getting stuck with each other but deciding to team up.
She could also be the molten core that powers the mecha suit, trying to get a Stellaron as replacement.
This would support Fireflys statement about "spending most of her time in a cold metal chamber" aka a mecha suit. We know plasmic lifeforms exist.
oooh i like the idea that shes some sentient molten core that fuels the mecha suit, maybe each time sam powers up it burns her lifeforce a bit and why she referenced the entropic disease thing. I also think the watchmaker likely used the stellaron to set all these things up
the "watchmaker" dosent seem like a good thing to me from the understanding of chrion last videos, tho dont know what it is in THIS universe theres TONS esoteric symbolism in these games.......
I think most people are over thinking things, and are forgetting one thing: if Firefly and Sam are the same person, or Sam is Firefly Iron Man suit, then she's a Stellaron Hunter and they follow a script Elio gives them. Elio claims to know the future, so I feel the SHs, and therefore Firefly are basically one step ahead of eeeeeveryone. I feel you didn't see "Mecha" after FF died in the dream bubbles because he has no memories, as he's just a suit. I feel the whole thing about her and "Mecha" "falling out" was part of the script Elio provided. Remember, we were only back in that area because Silver Wolf gave us the coords. They wanted us there. This is their plan all along.
The simplest explanation for why "Mecha" left her in the room was she took the suit off, one of the dream bubbles of her in that room has her CLEARLY waiting on a timer and saying "okay it's time to go", not "Mecha", but FF. She was in control. Her death scene had a Firefly-esque wisp fly up from her body, before she turned into goo. So maybe she went back for the suit, never left the dream, and returned to the lobby as part of, again, the Script Elio gave the SHs.
I think the SH, Adventurine/IPC and BS are in cahoots trying to reveal just how bad the dream is sinking, as this would make the IPC capable of regaining control of the Penal Colony like they want. They're trying to bring the Express Crew to their side by showing Robin has been killed, and I believe Acheron did it. I also have a feeling Sunday is the end boss. Like, he goes crazy as the IPC slowly tightens it's grip again, and goes bad. This could explain Sparkle and his convo at the end of the Act.
there was a side mission where it involved individual from Genius Society Guild who should die two Amber era ago (2 century) still live and reside in penacony, the side mission was madam herta and mr screwllum help the mc resolved a mystry abt who an old NPC character background and why he in penacony. the Takeaway from the mission is that a person can retain his conscious in dreamscape even without a physical form with The Family discretion. that NPC is now a bubble of Goop who eventually die because screwllum dont want him to suffer anymore

Firefly reminds me of the character in SAO who was an expert at the game but hospitalized and bedridden in real life.

I do have some personal theories and thoughts on who is firefly and what might happen in the future
1.) Firefly is not related to sam since black swan said firefly was betrayed by him
2.) Sam might just be a sentient robot, kinda like screwllum and svarog, since he doesn't allow any errors
3.) Firefly might become a new member of the astral express since you gave me an idea that she is just a piece consciousness stuck inside the dream world and is in need of a physical body and a place to call home
4.) The trailblazer might go through an Otto arc (in some way) because he/she witnessed firefly get straight up murdered in front of them
5.) Firefly is still not dead (at least i thought she is not)

I don't think the betrayal means anything, she could've done it on purpose to fake her death or there could've been another reason for things to look like that. Plus there's more stuff pointing to firefly being related to Sam than not. Also Sam is a knight from Glamoth who are "knights clad in mechanical armor" aka the mech is an armor theres a person needed to pilot it, and it doesent have to be inside of it btw because: " they will create a weapon 'born to fight.' "; "The Empress, who holds no power, telepathically commands and controls the knights connected to her."; and also "Iron Cavalry Knights are genetically engineered warriors created to fight the Swarm from the Republic of Glamoth.". Now I don't know wether firefly was made to be in a knight since the knights fight within a dream or if she controls Sam telepathically.

The answer is best girl obviously.
Welt already stated that Sam (based on records) is a remnant of Glamoth's Iron Cavalry Regiment, genetically engineered warriors that can telepathically connected and be controlled by "The Empress" (try zooming Galmoth planar sphere, and you will see one of Iron Cavalry unit that looks almost similar as Sam, probably older gen)
High chance Firefly is related to this "Empress", probably a clone with similar power since the Empress herself is also a fruit of an experiment from the ruling council in order to fend off The Swarm
honestly, I kinda lost count of how many people theorized about Sam = Firefly without even referring to this planar set that clearly tells you about Sam's origin smh. Seems like I still need to spread more awareness of these overlooked facts within the Glamoth planar set to fellow Firefly & Sam enthusiast
So I did read the glamoth set lore and why I included alternative ideas in the video where firefly isnt sam and may just be working together. As for the lore in the glamoth set I debated including here as well but chose to instead bring it up in Sam's own video which Im currently working on at the moment. So yeah, very much aware that sam=firefly is a pretty common one but I still think theres other possibilities
Firefly's syndrome is Chekhov's gun. It WILL come back to the story. She is becoming a goo in her death means she is ALREADY separated from the physical body. However, having a mechsuit around ,Sam... I am sold with the idea that Firefly's real body IS IN that suit or IS the suit. It would be also cool that we are looking for a lost Trailblazer (Watchmaker) and Silverwolf is looking for a lost Stellaron Hunter (Sam-Firefly) and in the past both of them created this world.
I've heard that Firefly is meant to be a Kallen Kaslana expy so I was basically waiting for her death scene 😭

There are a couple of side quests in Penacony that involve people who show up in the Dreamscape but don't have a physical body. Instead, their Dreamscape version is based on memoria - whether their own, or an amalgamation of other people's memories about them. So your idea of sentient memory works here.
The thing is, in both side quests, the Dreamscape version eventually disappears. The goo seems to be particular to Firefly.
I definitely its something like, Firefly becomes Sam when in a pinch, or like, storywise: she becomes him as a mech. Even as she calls Sam a mech and the Glammoth set talks about mechs and super soldiers with short lives, just like Firefly
In battle, I think it's less of Clara and Svarog and more of "when she's below half" after using her skill or something especially after looking at that new LC
I think the clocky guide mentions that it's prohibited to steal someone's identity and appearance. And one of the pepeshis at the club mentions "someone who disguises themselves as a pepeshi". Maybe there is some way to alter one's appearance in the dreamscape?

Also, why no one talks about her eyes being identical to march 7th eyes. So far hoyo have a history of using eyes as an indication of certain race. And firefly is from a destroyed planet. So could it be that she is from the same one as march?

My guy I want to share I theory I have (haven't chek is other people have post it in other plataforms) I think the misha we know is a memetic entity, similar to a memo keeper, created by the previous watch maker for his son/grandchild mikhail. Since everything points to a power struggle between the family and him it's most likely that he isolated himself, along with his last remaining relative (I'll call him mika since the other name is too long) mika. In said "confinement", he started to create "friends for him, those being the clockie cartoon characters that were able to meet un present day penacony. But, most likely, he still felt alone as none of them were like him, which prompted his grandpa to gift him his own "imaginary" friend, in te form of Misha (as people point out, a diminutive of mikhail). Years later, after the dead of the watch maker, mika probably felt a big desire to experience the cosmos, desire he always shared with his best friend, the (I don't know how it's said in English, so the toy with a key you have to twist to start it up, as we see in his eyes, looking like the key holes) inspired Misha. And so he departed Secretly from penacony scaping the vigilant gaze of the family and leaving his friend with the task to guard the legacy of his grandfather while also allowing him to experience the world of penacony safely, without fear of the family. This theory tries to make sense of the many lines we see in the real dream scape, where Misha is first playing with him, later realizing he's no longer there and crying out for him. I wrote way too much but have still a couple of ideas to strengthen this theory, probably I'll try to organize my thoughts and post it somewhere

I have one coming out soon that discusses the things i like about the current story and lore for 2.0 though perhaps I can do an overall one speculating where the story might go for penacony
I always thought that Firefly was some kind of memetic entity, or a dreaming consciousness without a physical body like how Chadwick (or more precisely his consciousness) was still able to be in the dreamscape despite him being dead. She could also be a living/sentient memory?
It could also explain why she feels like she has that Entropy Loss Syndrome- it could simply be her memories are muddled, she is already dead and she simply believes she has this ailment since she can't feel her body in the real world. Idk really know though.
Her name "Firefly" always made me think- oh yhea she's gonna die, they're gonna make it so that she like fireflies shine brightest during night (dreams) and loose that light (her life) when dawn arrives.
Either way I'm looking forward to how the story progresses!
"Fun and wholesome" they said, have a "nice vacation" they said- now I'm stuck with a lemon peacock, a chicken is slowly losing his mind, 2 scammers are on the loose, a lady with dementia is here with a memo keeper as the whole dreamscape is slowly getting derailed.
I don't know if someone allready said that but one thing that makes me think Firefly and Sam are related is a sentence said by Sam during his boss fight.
At one point, the fight stops and he says " Once you're back in the real world, remember to tell everyone about the stellaron hunter who was behind your ultimate departure", in english no hint here if he talks about himself.
But in french, "the stellaron hunter" is translated by "la chasseuse de stellaron" (feminine) and not by "le chasseur de stellaron" (masculine) which imply if he's talking about himself that he is in fact a girl under the suit.
Unless it's a misstranslation, it's a huge hint.
Damn english and its non-gendered words 😂. But that is a really interesting hint because I recall its happened before in other storylines in the past so it might be a good indication of whats happening and how these 2 are related
The goop Firefly disintegrates into is the same as the color of memory bubbles, so this seems to confirm that she didn't have a physical body and existed as a saved memory, just like that one amnesiac scientist. Unless that's how everyone dies in Dreamscape.

I try to avoid lore spoilers just so the story remains fun for me and speculating is just something I like doing but I do occasionally look at kit leaks from time to time so I am aware that some lore items were leaked quite some time ago I just avoid them like the plague 😂
She could be a dream. We were asked at the beginning if we would trailblaze even if we lost someone near us. This could be a test
**Spoilers for the Black Swan/Sparkle companion quest** This companion mission was a murder mystery that puts us directly in the role of detective through Black Swan's eyes. Ultimately, everything about the quest was a red herring with no meaningful evidence to solve the mystery, nor meaningful ending to the mystery itself; as the purpose of the companion mission (both according to Black Swan and Sparkle themselves) was not about the answer of "who committed the murder?" and more about the fun of the game itself. Sparkle herself was the "murder victim" who set up the game to win Black Swan over to her side, so Black Swan knew from the beginning that Sparkle was not dead, but because Sparkle set this up as a game, Black Swan assumed there were rules she must follow; therefor when asked who she thought the killer was, she answered with anything other than Sparkle herself. Sparkle **was** her own "killer" however, because there was no point to her game than the fun she derived from playing it, so there was no winning by achieving the "truth". The whole quest was a red herring.
I think this companion quest is a symbolic of the Penacony story as a whole; that being that it's all smoke and mirrors. The death of a character really is as simple as being a "victim" of themselves; only for the "death" to only actually be a game of misdirection.
I think Sam and Firefly are the same character, and while I don't think Firefly is **malicious** in her betrayal (especially seeing that Elio and Kafka need us, and therefor Sam knows of us, and ultimately we are working towards the same goal), I think we're absolutely still being played. I'd figure it's part of Elio's plan; after all, Firefly did say she's after the Watchmaker's Legacy-- She's here on business. The Stelleron Hunters need us, but they don't need us to be in-the-know. Even when Firefly is taking us to her special high-rise view, Clockie mentions that Firefly can't see him because she's dishonest-- this is the narrative's way of letting you know that she's not telling your the truth, even though she just promised to.
Firefly will be the first character I actually whale for. I've spent for a few now, but never to the point that it could be called whaling. That changes with her.
Im known to indulge in the occasional leak kit and stuff but ive avoided anything firefly related for the moment, im really curious what her kit would end up like
It really seems that what we see isn't everything. There is a big focus on desception, impersonation, illusion, what is even real and what not - also Aventurin and Sparkle speaking about a "game". I was so sad when Firefly died(?) and it still ruins me, although I know this is what the game wants - and maybe also someone else? The mistery about her is kind of too big for it to be already over. And Black Swan said in the detective game that truly dieing in the dreamscape would be impossible- that not even her powers could provide that. I feel like there might be a puppetmuster - or watchmaker - who brings all the factions in and lets them fight each other - for their entertainment?(Fools) or for their own gains? Or both? Just now the only thing that seems clear is - nothing is as it seems.
Can you do a video on the side quest with Chadwick. That one was really interesting.
Since FF is a stowaway, the reason we didn't see her in the Reverie hotel (in reality) after we wake up, is because she probably didn't enter the Dreamscape the 'authorized' way (through the bathtub).
Thats an interesting thought, which now makes me wonder is there any other way to enter the dreamscape. Are there backchannels or like a bootleg illegal connection 🤔
I want to talk about her "death" and more importantly her pink blue eyes.
Firstly I don't think her death scene had much impact and had very little emotional attachment, because it's definitely just a set up for the next few chapters. As someone who cried for 5 hours straight in Honkai chapter 30 - 31, this is probably the last impactful playable character death they ever did, and they intentionally made it that way as it's not a real death.
The fact that we're going to be able to pull the character later on shows that they're not dead yet and we're even going to play through a character story with them. I personally think this is an Inception like event, nobody has died IRL and is just dead in one of the countless layers of dreams. Firefly and Robin are playable characters so it kind of spoils their "death".
Next her eyes are pink and blue, which across the Hoyoverse is the most mysterious colour scheme. Kiana has it as the Herrscher of Finality, March 7th has it with her mysterious past and Six Phased Ice, and if you look at the Cocoon of Finality itself, the "eye" is the shape of a Primogem, and Primogems also have the blue and pink colour. This is probably the highest level of mystery lore shared across Hoyoverse.
This pink blue is also the colour of the Oneric Shard which is also found on Black Swan's design. In fact Black Swan, Aponia and the Genshin Welkin Moon girl are all nun/ priestess designs and all of them have their game's respective currencies as their cross. In Aponia's case she had Primogems and even calls Raiden Mei the Traveler even though she's a Honkai 3rd character and not Genshin.
These characters form a connection between the concept of Destiny and the games' currencies, which are used to "change destiny". This primogem cross shape is also seen in the "eye" of the god-like entity known as the Cocoon of Finality in Honkai 3rd.
It makes sense that these priestesses carry a cross motif which represents god and the gods come in various forms, Finality, Destiny, Heavenly Principles, Primordial One etc., and the pink blue colour scheme must have something to do with the highest power that gods possess, maybe related to the concepts of "Destiny" and "Dreams". In Firefly's case, she's a character very closely tied to Dreams.
"playable character" hold on. just because she has a different model than typical npc doesn't mean she is going to be playable. remember cocolia, and signora. she is still categorized as npc for now. the only playable character who is dead is only tingyun.

maybe the suit is her life support system, she did mention living in some kind of cold storage to slow the progression of her disease, that was my biggest clue to everything anyway

Also what sometimes happens in video games: The trailer was developed months before release and since then Firefly has inherited the green aesthetic while Sam took on the typical orange fire AFTER the trailer's direction has been approved, leading to confusing that they might be related.
All other references might just be easter eggs and not something tangible (heh).
That is what I love about Penacony.

i think one thing's certain tho, Firefly is not SAM, as like, they are not the same people/mind/consciousness, but definitely heavily related, my theories is that they are brother/sister or someone related ( could be friend too ) and that they share the same power, SAM or firefly can use the same suit in one way or another ( through mind/controller/or just using the suit ), cuz the bloodhound family is searching for a man with silver hair ( which i think have been established to be SAM ), but then there's also this girl with silver hair that are associated with the man with silver hair ( SAM ), get my point?, there are clearly 2 person and that they are not the same, but closely related, but on how their power works? i still don't know, i still can't confirm where the fight between SAM and Acheron ( 2.0 Trailer ) take place, its the reverie but idk if its the reality or dreamscape one, confirming this is prob the first step we can do to solve SAM/Firefly mystery.

my guess is that firefly was just a consciousness, a lot like memokeepers, and when she died, sam went to go and collect the fragments of her memories/conscience
now whether firefly was a part of sam fro mthe beginning and he was just going back to get it, or if firefly is her own person and sam went to integrate her into him, either are possible, especially since its once again all orchestrated by elio

People thought that the bloodhounds were looking for Sam but imo the descriptions didn't match up. But with the announcement of Boothill, I think they were looking for him instead.
One of the side quests is one of the reason why I think Firefly is like a memetic entity or something related to memories and dreams and why she doesn't appear in the real world. If you have already played that side quest, you know which one I'm talking about.
Acheron having the Deaths eye on her sword freaks me out
Yeah I had the same thought when we met her I was like isn’t she Sam, is this a Clara situation, Diva like or even a remote control thing. Also weren’t mechas used to fight against the swarm when their planet was destroyed. Though at the end I thought she might be robin.

The connection to Robin is something that should be explored more. The express team does make mention of her voice and persona not matching what she is famous for. Both characters meeting thwir end at the same time is an issue too.
It makes me wonder about what Sunday said having a plan and not needing Sparkle to stand in for her.
What if Robin is actually a puppet (one of many) to house Firefly due to a deal that was made with the family to ensure she does not fade away.
So how does Sam fit into this. Well we have some official info on him. He is a genetically engineered warrior designed to fight the Swarm. Sam probably means Swarm Annihilation Machine. He is a former Iron Cavalry Knight who wa originally controlled telepathically by Empress Titania of Glamoth. But seeing as that conflict is over he shouldnt have a will of his own but somehow does.
I think eventually Firefly will merge with Sam as a way to preserve both of their existences, i suspect Archeron is the catalyst for that, giving Sam his first real defeat.

i always thought sam was the artificial intelligence that is housed within the suit piloted by firefly but in the dream she can exit and let sam do his own thing because she wont die in the dream outside the suit

There's a very good chance that Firefly is actually Robin. Now let me explain it this way. If, after completing the main quest and unlocking Clockie's Status, you go to the playground where we first came in the dream, you will encounter an NPC there with people closing around it. When you talk to that NPC, you are directed to a secret mission. This is a spoiler, let me state this beforehand, if there are those who haven't played it yet, do not read this. In the NPC's story, the event progresses as follows. He is a popular actor across planets whose planet was destroyed and he died in that explosion. You go, you talk to that person, he realizes that his emotional wheel is missing, and you talk to the clockie and give him a wheel. He gets sad and says he wants to be alone, but when you talk to him after the people around him disperse, you learn that he has memory loss and doesn't feel like himself, etc. This is a task that shows that later on, this actor is actually just a consciouness, his loved ones able to enter another dreamscape and combine their consciousnesses with his other loved ones, creating a new consciousness of him and revealing that consciousness in Penacony's dream world. In fact, what happens at the end of this mission is that the actor NPC learns that he is not a real person and that he is a consciousness. Now we can summarize Robin's involvement as follows. It is stated in the video that his wounds are in the same place. Robin actually doesn't die in reality, and as an extra, in the episode where Aventurine is, that is, in the last part, they say that if we prefer to escape from reality, we have fun at the festival, listen to Robin's concert, etc. This means that Robin did not actually die, she died in the dream world and woke up in reality. As proof of this, Robin turns into a bubble and disappears when Aventurine shows us her corpse (her consciousness). For example, it proves this extra in situations such as Sunday's calm acceptance of the fact that Sparkle is in her sister's place, etc. The unresponsive approach of the brother, who was in a relationship between two loving siblings, towards such a situation was quite strange. From the beginning, Robin was in a dream world, in an incubator, tasked with creating or keeping Firefly's consciousness in Penacony. So actually Firefly is nothing more than a game that The Family played on us. Actually, she's not a real person. She says that she has Entropy Loss Syndrome, and as mentioned in the video, this syndrome is defined as the inability of the person to distinguish whether it is in a dream or in reality and loses its perception of reality. Same thing happened to the actor I mentioned at the beginning, the npc, he couldn't tell if he was in a dream or in reality and said he forgot what it was like to wake up from a dream. It has something similar to Firefly. He is unsure whether he is in reality or not, confusing dream and reality. So what does this mean? Doesn't it show that Firefly is not actually a real person, but a consciousness? Now let's come to the second part. Firefly is also Sam. So how can we combine this? Firefly tells us that she is actually a stowaway. Bloodhound Family mistakes her for the man identified as the stowaway: Sam. (I have another theory about the red text used in Acheron's speaking actually being the future Acheron. I'm starting off using that theory.) If Firefly is a consciousness, we think Sam is also a Mecha. Then, I think that consciousness and Mecha are combined in the future, or a new entity is created by someone combining them together. Because we see that they both come from the same planet or very similar planets, as mentioned in the video. One's planet was destroyed by the Swarm, and the other is in a similar situation. Well, doesn't this mean that it makes sense for the two to act together in the future? So not now, but in the future, Firefly is actually Sam. Currently she is Robin at Penacony. I don't know, I don't have anything to prove it right now, it's just a theory I created after the missions I played and the videos I watched. I think something will probably become clear after 2.1.

If firefly is sam or works alongside him then maybe they both got the code from SW. I also like that idea you brought up that maybe SW created firefly like an AI or something but it still weird that sam would trick her then so im thinking sam and firefly have some unique buddy cop dynamic or something and SW just isnt in the story yet at this point other than providing the code

I am more like to believe that Firefly is Robin
My current running theory is that the Robin we meet at the beginning, in the lobby, is a stand-in. A lookalike stand-in for a high profile PoI. This is why both Welt and March comment on the fact that her voice seems off.
The real Robin, we meet in the dream in the guise of Firefly. She tells us of her love of music and takes us to her favorite spot, a rooftop (that only staff should know of) overlooking the thing she loves the most, the theater.
At some point, our killer finds and kills Robin, only to realize after, that it's her double, not the real Robin. So they have to find and kill the real one. They do, and that is the Robin we wake up next to.
Who the killer was. What Sam's connection to Firefly is. Does acheron control Something Akin to Death? What is Aventurine's goal? These are all their own mysteries. But for now, that is my working theory on Firefly.
I really feel like the "Firefly is Sam" hints are a red herring. The story has been openly playing with the idea of false leads. But there is very likely a connection between both characters.
To be honest Im not 100% sold on it either and why I included other possibilities like them being 2 seperate people and possible working together. Truthfully I had like 20 different ideas on who she could be but had the firefly = sam one be the first as its the most common one and didnt include too many as I didnt want the video to go on and on. But with the story being what it is and you not being able to trust anyone the most obvious thing might well be just a red herring

I feel like it would be a waste of a character to have her be Sam, and I feel it wouldnt make sense for Sam to attack "us" when we return to the lobby. I always thought that perhaps a cure or something could be found to have her join the Astral Express though thats just I just wanted so bad.

Acheron's previous iterations in the other Hoyoverse games she was multiple personality, so it's likely the red text is either the real her or whatever her other persona is. Also I think it's likely that drawing her sword gives full control to the alter ego, which is why she won't draw it.

@@september1479 yeah, I know, not my greatest theory, so I won’t be too surprised if it turns out wrong. With that being said … I mentioned the wrong faction, I meant to say Elixir Seekers, however instead of searching for immortality, she’s simply looking for a cure.
Honestly we are so early into Penacony’s Story that … it’s just difficult to tell who Firefly is associated with.
She tells us that her homework’s was destroyed but isn’t sure if it was the Legion or the Swarm, which tells us that Firefly was elsewhere when the destruction of her home world occurred.
Since she has Entropy Loss Syndrome, a rather severe illness, it isn’t out of the question if she was in another world in the hopes of retrieving treatment for it. From there, she may have met with Elixir Seekers who convinced her to work with them since they’re seeking similar things related to prolonging one’s life. Potentially coming to the conclusion that since dreams in Penacony can come to life, then surely a cure or an elixir can come to life as well?
Like I said, not too confident on this theory, we just have to wait until everything is revealed to us.
