    Info Edit: At 31:40 Jon is explaining how to adjust the Quickie Pushrods and says to do "24 flats or 3 full rotations", the correct adjustment is 24 flats or 4 full rotations.

    S&S Cycle... awesome video. Very well explained. My manual says to use the tapered centering screws that screw into the tappet block (2 of them across from each other) while the other two bolts are installed. Then remove the 2 tapered centering screws and install the last two bolts and then torque to spec. It says that step is to make sure the tappets (lifters) do not hit the tappet block when they come up into it. Is that step not necessary or needed??

    A buddy of mine is looking for this cam kit for his touring twin cam but wants to know the best streetable cams because he rides long distances. He wants the s&s kit. Any information would gladly be appreciated

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "best" depends on how he rides, what's been done to the bike, and what he plans on doing. When he rides long distances is it highways or backroads, is it two-up and fully loaded down or solo with just an "essentials" bag, lots of factors to consider. Have him send us a message on his favorite social media channel, or drop us an email to sstech@sscycle.com and we'd be happy to help him get the ideal set up for him!

      Hey Robert, a lot of factors go into choosing the right cam for you. How do you normally ride, solo or two up. Do you ride mainly highways, city streets, or twisty mountain roads? Where do you normally shift in the RPM range?

      Just tore down a 99 twin cam 88 that has never been into and the lifters had the holes facing each other. It must not matter much I think the oil channels around and finds its way into the holes.

    Hey S & S,
    I am considering the 100" Winter Power Pack with silver cylinders, chain drive, and 585 easy start Cams.
    My bike is 2005 FXDC Superglide Custom carburated with 35,000 miles. 2 into 1 red thunder exhaust and a DK customs Air cleaner kit. I have a more aggressive riding style.
    Do you think the 585 is a good cam for my bike and myself? I wish you could substitute any cam into the kit as I would consider a 583 or 570.
    Thanks!

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Damien, that is a great question!
      If you are already considering the 570 & 583, the 100" power pack with the 585 will be your new best friend. Based on our experience with the 88" to 100" swap and a very heavy throttle wrist (that more than one of us might have) the 585 is absolutely the most fun, reliable, and fitting cam to pair with the 100" kit.
      We would not hesitate to recommend that kit for your specific setup and riding style.

      @@SSCycleInc Thank you for responding! Do you think I will feel at all sluggish down low?

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you weren’t doing the 100” kit then it could be a bigger concern, but with the added cubic inches you shouldn’t notice it lugging or feeling sluggish. That said, this is a very big change from your current engine so you may have a small learning curve of figuring out all the quirks of the new set up, but nothing that laying down some miles won’t clear up!

    I just installed an S&S 551 Cam kit in a 2011 103 FLT (Road Glide) The kit did not have any instructions for the pushrods, (S&S Quickee) So I went on TH-cam and found 2 videos that both said Zero Lash and 20 Flats, Is that going to be a problem? Also in the kit there was a button head allen screw 1//4" NC by 1/2 inch long in a cellophane sealed bag, I can't find anything in the instructions indicating it's use and I can't see any open holes? Am I missing something?

    • @SSCycleInc
      @SSCycleInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That pushrod adjustment procedure sounds correct. As for the screw, some early 1999 models would use that screw to block off a chain oiler boss, this is not needed for your 2011 FLT.

    I have always said Harley Davidson engines are overly labor intensive, their still using 1950’s/1960’s technology even in the Milwaukee 8 with the huge primary chain rotating in oil, pushrods, rocker arms, pushrod lifters , and a hot air cooled engine. I hope the Revolution Max can redirect HD to the modern age their claiming across their entire line.

      Challenge is crank run out. Not all engines can tolerate gear drive cams.

    • @Jonathan-L
      @Jonathan-L 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder how many guys upgrade to a gear driven cam kit, and discover AFTER they open the cam chest that the runout is too excessive ... or worse still, ignore the runout check and bolt in the new gear driven cams on a wobbly cranked motor.
