    One of the best instructional videos I have ever seen. Most techs spend hours editing out the inperfections, much respect for keeping them in, this is how we really learn. Someone else had mentioned the commentary, I totally agree, all of the expert tips you gave along the way, saved the average mechanic years of expierence. Outstanding Job Joey. Thank you.

The lifters adjustment is most crucial in your Video. And you are spot on man !!! Thank you for saving me $2000 😅 I love you man ✌️

    Good video.. question: Getting all my sheet together to do this, do the lifters have to be "soaked" or filled with oil? And since cam cover is off can't the timing marks on the cam sprockets be used to find TDC for each cylinder?

    I thought you are supposed to rotate the engine before you tighten down the oil pump to help center it.

    • @davidwarren9204
      @davidwarren9204 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are right. Remember when he first installed it, he left those four pump bolts loose, then went to rotate the rear whee (ie to do what you suggested) , but it was locked up, wouldn't rotate? He realized he had installed one of the pump parts backwards, so he disassembeld and reassembled it all (which he edited out,then just explained what he'd done). I think (not 100% sure of course), that he would have done the rotate-then-tighten-the-pump-bolts thing at that point. But you are right, it would have been better if he'd picked up where he'd left off, and finished explaining that the engine needs to be rotated a couple of times before tightening the pump bolts, to center the pump assembly properly. Nonetheless, it was a really good run-through of the job...

  • @donaldbyford271
    @donaldbyford271 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am confused, you showed adjusting the push rods on the opposite cylinder of the one that was TDC but the instructions from S&S say to do the same cylinder...
    Bring Cam to Base circle for the tappets you wish to adjust.
    Rotate the engine. Watch the intake valve open (pushrod goes up) and then close (pushrod goes down). Continue rotating slowly until the cylinder's piston reaches top dead center (TDC). The cylinder that you're adjusting will now have both its tappets on the base circle of their camshaft lobes. This is the lowest point in the tappet blocks for the tappets. Notice: Valve is on its seat and fully closed.

    you miss out on a huge opportunity to replace umbrella values and chech oilers and maybe ad rocker lockers by doing it that way. it not much more trouble and if the bike has close to 50k on it id just freshen up the top end as well. ps you didn't set your oil pump. pps aren't those hydraulic lifters? maybe im just not waiting long enough

      This bike actually doesn't have any other motor work and I feel like it depends on the motor displacement. On this fuel injected 88 it kind of needs a lil something extra. Like a compensator eliminator and a chain drive to get more torque out of it

    did you prime those lifters?

    • @imzzelitevehicleconcepts9267
      @imzzelitevehicleconcepts9267  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No we did not on this one. The S&S kit doesn't mention to do that but we often do. Once the oil pump pumps oil to them, it's only maybe half a second they pump dry. When you do the pushrod adjustment, you'll turn the pump over and it will start then. It's not a bad idea to prime them though.

    I would be straight pissed off if this guy worked on my motor. Cam chest is to be assembled on the bench with the oil pump. Even Harley updated their process to match Feulings. Tightening the cam plate down and pump before rotating 5 full rotations, not 2.
    Didn’t pump or vacuum bleed the lifters.
    Didn’t clean the new parts. Just because theirs new doesn’t mean they’re clean.
    Didn’t check the tappet bores.
    Didn’t see him lube the actual cam bearing needs rollers. Also didn’t tell you all the numbers and writing in the cam bearings are to face out so they seat correctly.
    Back to the oil pump…. Sure he flipped the g-rotor… which will happen when you don’t pay attention to disassembling the new parts while you clean them, then lube them, reassemble and lube some more.
    For cleaning things you can use electrical contact cleaner. Much better than brake clean. It just blows my mind that he didn’t clean anything except gasket surfaces. Dude didn’t even clean the pushrod tubes. Da fuq man.

However, not all objects in which screws are used already have threads. Bolts are used with nuts, whereas screws make threads of their own or are used on the threaded component. Most sources define screws and bolts in terms of how they are installed: if you turn the head it’s a screw, if you turn a nut it’s a bolt.
