    Love these cars. There was a 2.2L six cylinder version too. That was a lovely thing. The Maxi was quite different although it used the same doors as the "landcrab". The Maxi was a smaller car with an OHC engine, five speed box and a hatchback. I would recommend looking up the TwinCam channel where Ed has covered all these cars in his excellent videos. I'm really looking forward to this series, Great stuff Adam.

    Great guy I like your carfullness before attempting to start it I have owned 3 of these cars 2 mk 1s and 1mk 2 found them to be very reliable and get a bit sensitive when people refere to them as land crabs I am now 73 plus and still see them as the best car I have owned and I have owned around 140 cars in my time
    My home country was N Z ❤

      Same here! I think they are brilliant. A small car but with a lot of room inside. It feel roomier and airier inside than my XJ6

    I had a '77 Spitfire that I had a weak bladder in the fuel pump. I had to do that back feed priming trick, usually in the summer, when I think the heat caused it drain back. Once primed, it drove fine. I'm surprised I don't see more folks "priming the pump"
    with these barn finds with mechanical pumps.

    • @LivingWithAClassic
      @LivingWithAClassic  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a good way to get them to prime.
      I wish more pumps had manual priming like diesel pumps have

    Hi Adam . Sounds sweet . People loved the cabin space as there was no gearbox or propellor shaft intrusion. But it really never sold well and it was a rare sight in the day . There was a in line 3litre which was very rare indeed . My late aunt had the 2.2 (?) 6 cylinder Wolesley . Thanks Adam

      This isn’t what led to the XJ40 sale, this car is just on loan from a friend. The replacement for the XJ40 is a Jaguar

    Loved this! My family had a Wolseley 18/85, but just the standard one, not the twin carb S, and we loved it. The dream version was the Wolseley Six with the E-series straight six but that one was unfortunately never imported into Sweden. Really looking forward to another Landcrab episode!

    I really love your troubleshooting videos like these. Methodical and on these old engines without electronics it's a breeze! What a great feeling it is when it runs on its own too, One product I discovered that beats anything on the market to pree up stuck parts and rusty bolts is Aerokroil, from the aviation industry. One can lasts forever and it's unbelievable. I use it on stuck carbs too.

    A Les Leston Grand Prix steering wheel! There was an Austin and Morris 1800S as well and the engine is the MGB tune unit. The standard single carb cars are also 4 speed manual. The automatics use a three speed Borg Warner 35 gearbox in the sump but I think* they were single carb only.

    You cannot backflush the fuel system with the pump connected due to the two one way valves in it.I made that mistake and had to remove the pump to refit the valves back correctly. That was on a 1984 Mini Mayfair ,same system, just a bit smaller and more inaccessible .

    • @LivingWithAClassic
      @LivingWithAClassic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t want backflush it, just prime it. With fuel on the diaphragm it’s easier for it to fill new fuel from the tanks
      Now it pulls fuel as it should 😊

    • @d.o.a.garage
      @d.o.a.garage ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LivingWithAClassic Diaphragm! That's the word I was looking for! The one way valve weaken over time and let fuel seep back in into the tank. Putting in the line gives it just enough seal to pull. A mechanical well hand pump has the same issue.

    1800s and the Maxis were very different cars they shared the doors and some of the engines And the maxi was a hatchback

    • @LivingWithAClassic
      @LivingWithAClassic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they were different but I would still call the Maxi an evolution of the 1800. It became a better and more thought out car and yes a hatchback

      These evolved into the Princess, the Maxi was more of a sidestep with a completely new engine and transmission.
