Coming home from work I passed the Albert Hall and stopped at the poster of upcoming gigs , and there's Peter Green playing that night . I bought two tickets at the box and rushed home , told my son to get dressed and pressed I had a surprise for him . Our late tickets were for the no seats attic , who cares , we got to see both of our fav player play Man of the World and Albatross , through tears . Made an old man very happy .
My dad loved this song ,and when it was rereleased in the 70s in the UK he'd always ask me to turn it up when the radio played it while we were at work when I worked for him. I miss you so much Daddy love you ,I wish I'd told you that when you were alive, if you were here I'd tell you everyday.
Heard this for the first time while in the Navy 1970. Still in my top 10 faves. RIP Peter. And would have loved to play this for my late Dad. He LOVED good guitarists.
Peter Green: Best British blues guitarist who ever picked up a guitar. I've been playing for almost sixty years and have yet to hear someone surpass his feeling, note choice, and phrasing. Absolutely untouchable in his prime. Rest easy, Peter, you left us a LOT of amazing music to listen to and marvel at.
Alvin Lee wasn't too bad a British blues guitarist. All a personal choice I guess, and different styles of gtr playing...cheers, from a Rory Gallagher fan , the Irish bluesman..
Agreed. Listen to the live version on youtube of The Stumble when he was with Mayall. The audio is bad but Greens vibe comes through in a powerful way. He seemed to have an endless supply of riffs. So sad the drugs took it all away from him.
Like great wine, the music simply gets better with time. Age has no place in music, fantastic song and Mr. Green is a great artist, a great tune that brings back some beautiful memories. It is music such as this that makes life rich!
Nobody had your touch, your tone, your voice Mr. Green. My children’s children will hear of your work as your music transcends through time. Thank you so much, may your soul live forever
Peter Green, legendary genius guitarist, inspirational musician for countless generations, , thank god he's still around , by far one of the finest guitarists to have graced this planet, the tranquility and sheer beauty of his compositions are still without equal , almost 50 years on . how lucky are we to witnessed this phenomenon, peace and love PG
Brilliant summation and totally agree with you. Not to digress too too much, most of the lead on Albatross was in fact played by Danny Kirwan. Saw them live when the record first came out and was somewhat surprised when Danny took most of the lead. Peter was as usual very giving to his fellow musicians and played along masterfully with Danny et al. :-)
A few years ago, i was asked by a young woman, what music I liked. I replied, "Fleetwood Mac, but the old stuff". She replied " like Rumours?" ," i said " no that's their new music to me !" Love this music.
The one with the beard is English musician Nigel Watson, Peter’s girlfriend’s brother, who were both responsible for getting him back playing, after about twenty years of living as a recluse,Nigel noticeably playing the lead parts, unselfishly covering for Peter’s fragile state around this time
Yes I saw him on one of the splinter group tours and it was pretty much as you say, seemed happier playing harmonica but there were odd flashes of brilliance ,I spoke to him seemed a humble nice person and had a good sense of humour.
I saw him with this lineup about 15 years ago. Nigel Watson was playing a lot of the lead parts, but every now and again Peter Green would play or sing something that was a total flash of brilliance. Was he the same as in his prime, certainly not, but I was glad I got to see the Green God. Still the best British blues guitarist there's been IMHO.
The English Authorities and the doctors should all go to prison for how they attacked Peter The Establishment lies ,.The untruths spread to the point where the uneducated believe them So sad, so wrong He just wanted to play the guitar and spread love
Incredible to see Peter performing again after so much he faced in life. Any negative comments on here are by ignorant people who know nothing about the history of Fleetwood Mac or the dangers of LSD drugs
This is around the last time I saw Peter Green playing with a brilliant line up of musicians at the Queen's Theatre in Barnstaple,North Devon. What a wonderful evening it was too ! Years earlier I had also attended a concert Fleetwood Mac played at the Yeovil Techical college, in Somerset, when Albatros was first realesed as a single. Those were the day my friends !
From being one of the most talented and best guitarists of his time, it makes me a little sad to see Peter in this condition and not playing the lead. Still love his music though. RIP Peter.
Yes, Peter Green messed up in his life, but he is still here with us. And just remember what exactly this man has contributed to music over the years before even considering a single criticism. If this man never played again, and let us all hope that that never happens, he has earned his right to be called a guitar ledgend on a par with Clapton, Hendrix, Beck, and the rest.
I love what you said....but maybe he didn't. It was perhaps a beautiful short road that was left for us to follow and for him to find again. We can all find our best path if we so chose :) peace and love
Met Peter Green in a dressing room at a teen club they were booked into for two nights in Michigan. Handed him my Stratocaster, he handed me his Les Paul. He had the strap screwed down on the upper bout. A nice chunk of leather, an old cinch from a saddle. You can see it on many of the videos from around that time. Maybe one of the most quietly charismatic men I've ever encountered. My admiration deepened from the songs he wrote, he was really tuned in to the big power of the universe at that time. A fragile soul, and just a lovely man. All we local Michigan guitar stranglers were sitting down front, with Peter and Danny Kirwin blowing our hair back with Twin Reverbs. We started to take bets on when Mick Fleetwood was going to crash a cymbal. Me, Geri Zubal, Phil Bliss and Thomas Weschler, some other fellows too. Two nights of inspiration, and amazement. Great band,,,great,,,
One of all time favourites, beautiful peaceful record sooo relaxing, I remember all those years ago when it was released, music was wonderful back then😊❤❤
Yes, so sad to see him like this. I owned a restaurant in Richmond, Surrey in the mid 80’s . He was a frequent customer of mine. Very sadly he had a lot of hangers on, especially when he got paid once a month. Sad to see so many take advantage of him. He was always polite and kind. Such a great loss.

This is why John Lennon called "Sun King" his Fleetwood Mac song. Part of the greatness of the Beatles was that they listened to everybody else and incorporated the good stuff - like "Albatross" - into their music.
I remember hearing this on top of the pops in the uk when it first came out. It had a marvellous video of an Albatros flying around some cliffs. It was so beautiful. I would have only been about 9 or 10.
Everyone comments it's not the same because Peter isn't playing lead,,, people seem to forget he wrote and composed it and that can never be disputed 🤔
Met him when I was a young impressionable 17yr old who loved and still does rock and blues, never forget the chat with Peter what a lovely guy he was and what a musician God bless you him ❤❤❤
First musician I really stopped listened and really got it, Man of the world says it all a tremendous talent sadly shortened by drugs and mental health issues rest in peace Peter you were a legend
I have lived through some tough times, and once I put this song on repeat and just let him pick me up from a very deep hole. Thanks Peter. I know that he also suffered in his life, but he can use the guitar and still carry me to a more hopeful place.
One of the Sweetest tunes I've ever heard, weather its the 'Original Electric' version or this acoustic one it doesn't matter I can listen to either. Many thanks Mr Green.
So simply beautiful and transcends time. Peter left us great music. My first '58 cherry LesPaul Junior was his, well thats what everyone who sold one said back in the '60s. Thanks Peter rip.
This reminded me of Sun King by the Beatles, and then I read this song was George Harrison's inspiration for it. Harrison said: "At the time, 'Albatross' (by Fleetwood Mac) was out, with all the reverb on guitar. So we said, 'Let's be Fleetwood Mac doing Albatross, just to get going.' It never really sounded like Fleetwood Mac... but that was the point of origin."
This song could be a whole lot longer and I'd still listen all the way through. Best song to watch the sunset while a bit of the green has been smoked and you are on the beach in the North Shore.
This just brought tears to my eyes. I’ve just learned of Peter Green after becoming fascinated that his guitar sold for $2m. Inspiration for The Sun King. I never knew that.
First heard this Lovely Music, in The 70s when courting My Dear Wife to be. We,still listen too it now. After, 46 years of Marriage! Thanks, for this. Kind regards Colyn.
Personally, I've always liked this little'known recording featuring Peter. His use of silences as much as the guitar is an object lesson for those guitarists who feel that every nano-second has to be filled with riffs, runs and sound. The brief solos in this really do send shivers up the spine th-cam.com/video/-eE3_WVOc0Q/w-d-xo.html
Still works beautifully as an acoustic arrangement rather than on lead guitar... So happy to have Peter back after so many years of doctors doping him up to the eye balls... Thankfully someone a fan who was a doctor came along as legend tells & asked them to gradually cut his dosage down & down to see if he'd be ok & thankfully for us fans he was... I don't care if that's true or not as I'm just glad he's back & in control of his on life now... The early line up is still my preferred Fleetwood Mac & that's not taking anything away from the one that went on to become the Fleetwood Mac that mostly everyone knows but I'll take Peter Green & that line up all the time as they were pushing the envelope on a tired genre... We lost too many amazing artists & it's nice to see one back back to us...
Takes me back to my time in the 60's, when young people (hippies) were looking for an escape from the reality and horrors of the Vietnam war, racism, and older generation vs young generation, etc. When I'd get high, whether on pot or acid, this piece of music would send me into a really peaceful meditative state. I could close my eyes and see a gentle albatross soaring silently on the air currents with a blue sky in the background. One of my most peaceful memories of those troubled times. I felt sad watching Peter Green fall down deep into his own private hell. He was an extremely creative individual, always coming up with something new. I loved his music. Hopefully, his mind is in a better place now. Good luck, Peter.
I recorded with Peter after he left FM. We recorded at a country house in Michigan. We had days of reel in reel tapes that I was going to release all destroyed in a flood Oy Vey RIP Peter Green
Say what you want to about how Peter performed here Buuuttttt he’s the man who invented, wrote, played this wonderful timeless piece along with Danny absolute geniuses who are copied by other super musicians but they never invented the music and only do karaoke versions
Please remember the once great man when HE WAS GREAT. Back then he was second to nobody in the guitar playing world.God Bless you Peter and my sincere best wishes.
I never saw Peter play in his heyday, but I saw him 3 times after his 'return'. The first was when he appeared with the Splinter Group in Colne during one of their annual Blues festivals. At that time, he stayed in the background and was clearly struggling to play. However, he came forwards to try 'Green Manalishi' and was OK until his finger went under the strings. Any guitarist knows how offputting that can be! Two things then happened, the group moved to take the lead as Peter stepped back slightly. The audience all stood up and cheered to show their support for the man they'd all come to see. I managed to get a few photos of him playing when he was nearer the front a little later in the show. The last time I saw Peter was in Harrogate when he appeared with John Mayall ... by then he was confident again. His old touch had gone, but he was well into the Robert Johnson songbook and so took full part in that section of the show.
I saw a gig on this tour, Peter was there in body but in no other way very sad to see. Nigel Watson is an excellent guitarist but nobody can replace the legend Peter Green R.I.P.

As hauntingly beautiful today as it was in 1968 a forever Classic. Thank you Peter Green RIP

Had the pleasure of meeting Peter Green at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and very funny. God rest his soul
Nice try Benny Harvey
Would have loved to see hum play and meet him. Closest I got was growing up in a religious cult with Jeremy Spencer.
One of the great guitarists of all time. Rest in peace, Peter.
The purity of Peter's playing always brings a tear. He was just brilliant 😢

I felt sad watching Peter Green fall down deep into his own private hell. He was an extremely creative individual, always coming up with something new. I loved his music. Hopefully, his mind is in a better place now. Good luck, Peter.
I am a 63 yr old so california hippie i am always happy to meet another soul mate when it comes to Peter Green
So, did you ever get it figured out?
I recorded with Peter after he left FM. We recorded at a country house in Michigan. We had days of reel in reel tapes that I was going to release all destroyed in a flood Oy Vey RIP Peter Green
What a great piece of music...God bless you Peter.
You have to imagine the lonely Albatross gently cruising over the water whilst listening to this ❤
I never get tired of hearing this mans guitar work!
+john mcconnon (The Mac): Genius
Say what you want to about how Peter performed here Buuuttttt he’s the man who invented, wrote, played this wonderful timeless piece along with Danny absolute geniuses who are copied by other super musicians but they never invented the music and only do karaoke versions
This was the track that first lured me to Fleetwood Mac. And have been a fan ever since. Totally mesmerizing music.
Mr. Green always had the ability to speak to this guy's soul.
Please remember the once great man when HE WAS GREAT. Back then he was second to nobody in the guitar playing world.God Bless you Peter and my sincere best wishes.
No song cut through to my soul like this (perhaps Greensleeves ), never got old always took me away from the shit of the day.RIP Peter Green
Good to see nice people around Peter again to help him shine.
Peter's masterpiece! RIP legend.
What a star, full of real, beautiful music with a great gift. I also like the hawaiian sounds
So simple yet so great, an all time great piece of music
I could listen to this over and over again, Sends me of in my dreams,Beautiful places.
Speaking of beautiful places; Albatros was in many a surf flick back in the '70s featuring exotic surf spots around the world. 🏄🏼♂️
God Bless you Peter! Magic guitarist! 💙R.I.P. 🙏
I feel peace in my heart everytime I listen to this music.
Good! I like...
Me too, peace & calmness, which is much needed now more than ever😘💞😘🎶🎶🎶🎶💓💓
I saw a gig on this tour, Peter was there in body but in no other way very sad to see. Nigel Watson is an excellent guitarist but nobody can replace the legend Peter Green R.I.P.
God bless Peter Green. A lost soul, but now he is found.
only after coming off Antipsychotics he'd been on for nearly 30 years and finally realising he didn't need them.
Oppie Oppenheimer just about found, just a fragment of his former self really....
Oppie Oppenheimer
Yes indeed you can thank Nigel and Michelle Watson for helping him recover.
Oppie Oppenheimer ii
This isn't Peter, this is the body of Peter, nothing more. The world's greatest guitarist is long gone.
I was privileged to see him perform this in Kings Lynn (UK)
