This was a really inspiring video, Vera! I didn't really get rid of much this year, but I did a lot of "emotional baggage" throwing out. And it felt good. It was a good thing for me. My mother passed in January and we had a very difficult relationship. It took me a while to not feel guilty about being relieved that she is gone. She was a very unhappy person and was spreading her pain to the whole family. While we mourn the person she once was, we are glad that she is no longer suffering.
I also did some practical cleaning out. As an older person, I'd accumulated a lot of things from a couple of past generations and after asking "the kids" about these things and some careful consideration, I donated a lot of kitchen items that I'd kept because they belonged to "grandma" or they were passed down, but of no real value. This, too, was a big relief!
I'm in the process of working through some wardrobe items that are literally collecting dust! They've got to go. One drawer, one closet at a time. I think this will be a good winter project!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences Bonnie! It sure sounds like you've had lots of release this year, which is wonderful. I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom, I think it's amazing how you're dealing with that and with your difficult relationship. Very inspiring. :) Sending you a big hug, wishing you all the best with the rest of your decluttering goals, and of course, wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season and an amazing 2023!!

Minimalism doesn't have to mean deprivation (or it shouldn't). We need to be intentional about our consumptions, but it doesn't mean we should hold back to the point where it actually makes life more complicated or miserable.
Those keychains are so cute! I have a weakness for anime merch lol.

Hi Vera, I found that it was getting my robot vacuum that really kickstarted my minimalist/intentional living journey. It started with having to keep the floor clear so that my vacuum would not struggle. This then got me into the habit of keeping other areas clean and a realisation that by reducing the number of possessions that I have, I can be more intentional. This year, I upgraded my robot vacuum to one with an extra bin so that I only need to empty it every two months - this was my purchase of the year.

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  ปีที่แล้ว +4

Ah that's so true!! :) Great example. Yes, we also had one part of the house to think about, where there are a bunch of cables on the floor, that the robot doesn't like haha. So we'll need to think of a solution for that. Otherwise, the floors are clear. But yes, it does motivate you to keep the floors clear :)

My most bigger declutter this year was my entire closet, I decide to let got of the uncomfortable clothes, and that makes me feel such in peace. Because now when I got out I feel confident about what I am wearing because fits me well. And I understand at my 28 that the woman doesn’t have to be in a certain tipe of clothes to be sexy. We are beautiful in different ways. And If you feel well with what you are wearing, you are going to transmit that exact same feeling

My biggest declutter this year was my body weight - shed 10kg from 63 to 53, and I am now in a healthy BMI range. However as a result I will have to change my wardrobe next year as the old clothes are now too big. I will try to alter as many as I could, to reduce the buying though. Many thanks for your inspiring videos and also sharing from our community here. Happy holidays and have a great 2023 ahead! ❤️

I decluttered a bunch of clothes, shoes, purses, furniture, kitchenware and more. I would consider myself a maximalist but I’m starting to change my ideals and love to become a minimalist in the future. I would say I decluttered more than 500 items, and I am still not finished. My goal is declutter 50% of my things. I would like to have a no buy year for clothes/shoes/accessories in 2023. Thank you for inspiring and for sharing your minimalism. My best purchase this year was a Dyson cordless vacuum that we got on sale during Black Friday. Cheers to 2023 and Happy New Year to all!

Great video! Best thing I've purchased this year: a few well fitting clothes (since I've also recently lost a little weight). Most rewarding things I've decluttered: 1) Old notebooks from university courses I took and no longer need or look at, 2) old cards and letters which make me sad rather than happy to re-read.
P.S. I have been watching your videos for a while, and always make a cup of tea or coffee at the beginning.

The best thing I decluttered this year was a bunch of old cards and letters. The messages in some of them were quite toxic so it was a relief to get rid of them and I could finally let the people who wrote them go. All of your purchases make complete sense and the hand made dishes are so very beautiful! Your boyfriend's gifts are also so nice and thoughtful. My best decluttering this year was cleaning out my shed. I bought my cottage 3 years ago and never tackled the shed out in the backyard. It was very satisfying to get rid of the broken/not needed items from the previous owner (old broken bike, old sink) and to organize the lumber, tools, etc. in there. Such a relief to have someone else's energy cleared away (not that he was bad lol) it just was a huge task of things to get rid of that I never would have bought. Ended up being a truckload full of stuff!!

This year we settled into the home we bought two years ago which meant letting go of things that, while useful still, no longer served us or the space. So lots of little things left. Thanks so much for this and all other videos this year Vera! I kept a list like yours this year and now approaching 250+ items out and 60 items in. (Not counting the 1 in-1out:s). I’m both happy and surprised of these numbers since I’ve been a minimalist for a few years now. Now to the question of my best declutter this year: the best and the far most challenging declutter and decision for me was to sell our sailing boat. I’ve been sailing my entire life and this boat was in our family since 2001, my husband and I had it since 2017 and we raised two kids with it. We are really relieved although I still get emotional when I think of what we have left behind. So thank you Vera for not only inspiring to do declutter at home, but also to question, be honest to oneself and actually dare to take tough decisions. The boat drained our energy in periods and now we are free. I will sail again but probably not own a boat, at least not in a very long time.

I'm at the beginning of my personal trip for a more intentional and clutter-free life and this year I've decluttered lots of clothes, around 200 books and over 50 kg of old National Geographic magazines. I loved this video, very inspiring with lots of great ideas! Definitely need to dig out one of my empty journals and use it for 2023's declutter mission! Best thing I got rid of: DISHES! Lots and lots of dishes. There will be more go out the door in 2023 as we are having our kitchen remodeled in the summer. Best purchase: this will sound weird, but having our washer and dryer repaired as opposed to replacing. It was strange timing for them both to break down within months of each other, but instead of costing us over $1000 to replace both, we spent around $500 to repair and will hopefully get many more years of use out of both. I am really enjoying your videos and I have subscribed, hoping it will help me to do even better in 2023.

Your video inspired me and I definitely want to keep a list of new items and decluttered items next year!
This year the best new item that I added to our home was probably our new TV stand. And the best decluttered item was an old closet that came with the house..we will buy a new one though when the entryway renovation is done.
But I am in the same boat with you about plants. I actually had a goal for this year to not to buy a single new plant.. But I ended up buying 3 I think (plus getting few for free from my mom), but somehow some of the smaller plants have died. Hi, Vera! 🌺Well I don't usually comment but now I have to. I've been watching your content for months and I was not expecting Trails to show up! It made me a bit giddy because I don't know many people here in the Netherlands who've played the games. Playing through all of that together sounds like a wonderful experience and I'm glad you ended up enjoying it so much. Estelle and Olivert are so cute! That was honestly such a sweet gift. I myself have been waiting for Crossbell before continuing with CS3. I finished Zero recently and it was amazing so I can't wait for what is to come!
The section on electronic devices was also very insightful. Those tend to be pretty big purchases so I keep postponing them when my old devices are still working. But you made a very good point. Maybe I'm overstretching their use and they are starting to hold me back? Thank you for the excellent video with such an interesting topic as always, Vera! I'll be around for future uploads.😄

I decluttered my swivel chair and have bought a sit/stand aid "active" to replace. That was definitively the best decisions as I wasn't able to sit on the swivel chair for a long time (due to a spinal disk herniation) and, therefore, wasn't able to work and paint at my desk. Additionally, the sit/stand aid doesn't need that much space as my swivel chair and isn't such an eye catcher what I really like... 🥰 Like in your case, something what I should have done years ago. 😅

Congratulations on your weight loss! You look amazing ❤️ We don’t have a robot vacuumer, but a couple of years ago we invested in a robot lawn mower for similar reasons that you describe. Both me and our children are very allergic to grass, so all the work of mowing the lawn fell on my husband. So after 20 years, he truly deserved that task being taken off his list, as there are other tasks that are on his list due to our allergies as well. And we really appreciate this little helper. And as you have said before… there is no right or wrong way to do this. I am not a minimalist, but I can’t imagine anyone criticizing you for investing in your health. Who says that minimalists can’t have technology? If that is the case, I can never become one… It’s basically one of my hobbies… Take care, and be happy. That is the most important thing 😊

The central air controller system in our building went down on Friday, it took 4 days to get a mechanic in to fix it. It got so damp water was pouring on the inside of the windows despite opening windows all day, drying them twice a day and heating on at night. the two plants got mouldy so tossed them out as soon as I noticed it. It had had to be done cause it dangerous for your health. My old winterjacket was donated afther 15 jears of use because it was still ok....

Vera, I really enjoyed viewing this video. I would rate the year 2022 a real winner for you. I loved hearing that you and your husband enjoy a shared interest playing the video games. The keychains he gifted you was a sweet gesture. This year you gained more time to yourself. You no longer have to spend it on vaccuming ( Ahh -Choo) and waiting so long for your videos to process. This is a result of your wisely investing your money into improving the quality of your life. Personally, I got a kick out of your tracking items in and items out. I have been doing the same for several years. At the end of each month I hope to see that less came into the house than went out. If it comes out that way, I consider myself a winner. Even though I've let go of so many things, I'm still feeling like there is more that I get rid of, but it's not always easy. I will keep at it next year and see how I go. This is so motivating!! I've been tracking my purchases this year for budgeting purposes, but haven't yet looked at them closely in terms of how much clutter I've invited in--I'll definitely be doing that nearer the year's end. Between kids and buying a new (larger) home there was a LOT of shifts, so I'm giving myself some grace, but even still I think I'm still proud of how far I've come from previous years. Seeing how carefully you consider everything that enters and leaves your home really inspires me to be even more discerning and mindful. I already had my spending tracker set up in my Bullet Journal, I'll just have to be less lazy about lumping things together if I want to track amount in/out, too. 🤣 Thank you for sharing how you did yours!

    Happy holidays Vera! :)
This was such a fun and interesting video and inspired me to think about my best purchases and declutters.
The best one for me would technically not be a purchase because I do not own it but a big financial decision. This year I decided to move out from my old shared flat into a wonderful new one that I now live in on my own. The cost more than doubled but having all of the space for myself brought me so much peace and freedom to express myself that it is worth every penny.
Also, high up in the ranking would be my robot vacuum (hate vacuuming and have the same problems with being sensitive to the noise and highly allergic to dust) and a capsule filler for making my own supplements (basically just spices like curcuma, ginger and amla powder).
Although I moved, I did not declutter much since I was already very minimal in the areas that matter to me. But I opted to not buy any new furniture and take the old IKEA shelves with me and use the furnishings which the previous renter left here. They are not my style but still in ok condition for the most part so it feels like a waste to declutter the sofa because it is not my color etc.
