  • As it is about mid-April, I think it's time we do a little bit of a tour of the garden. Kind of a Before, though, technically some things have already happened. But just to give you an impression of what everything looks like at the moment. Now in April.

We have also had so much rain and the squirrels continue to wreak havoc in my garden. Though I begin to think it might be something bigger at least part of the time. Still have a couple more weeks before I can put the seedling out and hope to have this under control before it's time..
My seedlings are out in the greenhouse now with 50% shade cloth doubled over on top and a heater for those really cold nights. I am lucky this is an option. Next week I will start moving them out during the day to continue the hardening off process.
    Be well from Canada 🇨🇦

As we only have the red and black squirrels here (no gray squirrels), they are much less of an issue and more of an excitement when we see them. But I remember the gray ones from our time in Los Angeles. Totally adorable but they were, well, good at eating.
I hope you figure it out before your seedlings need to move outside.

If you can , a piece of plastic instead of that board in the door to let in some natural sun light. If you are going to work or sit in there that would be great. Have a wonderful day!

That's the plan. This is a temporary solution from last summer.

Thanks, Julie. There are melon seedlings on my living room table at his very moment, waiting to be moved to the greenhouse very soon. I'll move them once they get their second leaves :) Those will stay in the greenhouse until they fruit, so I am excited to add the first plant into the greenhouse that isn't a temporary seedling.

Horse tail... Hmmmm. It's a persistent weed. But nothing to fret over, IMO.

Persistent, definitely. But no reason to give up on any affected bed for the season. I'll figure it out :)
