I find having a front yard food garden a great way to connect with my neighbors. Everyone stops to ask questions and chat

It really is amazing how much wasted space there is in an average 'blank lawn' style suburban garden... aside from all the other yields you've stacked in this space, you have created an additional outdoor room, with your lovely table and chairs. Gorgeous.

Even though you said "before people start saying you are providing a screen for robbers...", I'm guessing you will still get comments telling you why your choices that you love and enjoy and clearly work well for you are wrong and you should do what the commenter states is "right". I guess it's human nature for some folks to make themselves feel better/superior by telling others they are "wrong". BTW, I think your yard could not be more "right"!

moving from an area where i had my front windows smashed in (and no room to garden) to a one floor home with a yard... i was worried about providing cover for theft and break in, but i also want privacy. so i planted the nastiest, sharpest, least sociable plants under my windows. bedroom window? stinging nettle patch. front window? tons of roses. side window? my shade tolerant rosa rugosa, AND my black raspberry! back window ? gooseberry! after all, i try to keep the thorny stuff well away from the sidewalk and paths, but hey... you arent supposed to be up at my windows anyway, not my fault you dont like my nice nutritious nettles!

Over here in Cape Town, South Africa, I also started a food forest in my front yard. It's slowly taking shape. Well done thank you.

  • @falcolf

I've found that gardening really helps me connect with people too ❤

I live in the Chihuahua Desert with my family, but this is still my goal. ♥️

I also live on a bus route with a high school at the end of the street, so lots of foot traffic! My garden is slowly taking shape, I can't wait till everything grows in, right now the trees are only 2' tall lol so not blocking anything.

I have a pollinator garden on a busy street. It took only two complaints after 10 yrs of garden for me to get a notice from the city. I don’t know how people can get a food garden.

The best video I've watched on this topic. I'm in the last category, haven't pruned in years. Had a lot of tall stalks about 3 or 4 inches across that I had to cut out. Lots of suckers to take over so all is not lost. Looks naked though...

It was a goal of mine to educate people on the possibilities of growing food when I decided to put the initial food forest out front. I also wanted privacy from the highway and sidewalk out front. There were other reasons, too, that I won't bore you with, but along with blocking some of the traffic noise, I've found that it keeps a lot of the dirt and dust from entering my house. I am far from being a neat freak, but build up of dirt was considerable. I've already seen a difference when I sponge off the dirt from my window screens and wash the windows There are lots of big trucks that go by and they tend to kick up a bit of dirt. That garden is only four years old and plants are still pretty small, but they are already helping.

Great food forest! Any robbers will probably get distracted by all the lush fruit!

  • @thecoffelady

My front yard food forest also completely blocks the front of my house. I agree 100% on the benefits you cited

  • @RiceTeaLover

Yay these are my favorite videos!!!! 🥳 love seeing food forest examples!
