- Nissan Leaf is the most popular electric car in Sri Lanka and its practicality was reduced since Nissan didn't supply batteries for Sri Lankan owners. Now Sri Lankan Nissan Leaf owners can replace their old batteries with brand new original batteries from NKR Motors.

This is a great video, I have a 2014 LEAF and it has done 67000 km and now it has 7 bars.
This video gave lot of hope for LEAF owners.
Sri LANKAN government has to h give lot of tax concessions for EV owners if the duty is reduced the replacement cost will come down where all the LEAF owners will contribute towards the green eco friendly drive.
This is a very encouraging video, we should share this video with all LEAF owners.
Hope the government high officials will open their eyes and encourage the Ev cars to be used in SRI LANKA.

Great Video. My Leaf has done 120,000 km to date with 6 bars remaining. If this was in Japan I would be eligible for the warranty. The problem with EVs in Sri Lanka is that there is no government policy to promote the use of this vehicle. Even the charging infrastructure is declining due to bad government policy. Many charging centres have closed down and the only option is to convert this vehicles to hybrids. The EV club is not active at all. Even the battery swap project they initiated failed without any feedback given to those leaf owners who have information on their batteries. NKR motors has done a better job with regard to maintaining EVs. Thanks for the video.

Do you drive with AC or without AC? Does it matter to the battery health?
@@padmalkodithuwakku6919 with ac. that does not affect battery health. normally keep the vehicle to cool down for 3 hours before charging at home.

Batteries are shipped with no charge due to safety. Best charge level for any lithium battery is 50%

The manufacturer recommends an optimum charge level about 40%. They say the warranty is void if the car is kept unused for a long time with a very low battery charge level. NKR Motors' owner's advice is wrong, which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in his competence.

Yes I did, I have already put around 3,000km on the new battery but couldn't go for a long trip due to covid restrictions. Once I can will do an update. currently I'm getting around 160km real world range in the city with traffic.

Was it required to do any programming or reset the battery module or something after cell replacement?
NOTE: I also went to this place sometime in mid 2020, when I saw some leafs there as my leaf is also in trouble with 4 cap. bars and 60KM. But the owners said they are not doing any battery repairs. I asked about the many leafs there, they said it is just for regular repairs.!!!. Maybe I didn't look like leaf owner, as I was driving my Vezel, huh...

What about the heat? in Japan the average temperature is less that 25C. In Sri Lanka every day its 31C. That's the reason the Degradation is High. But after 2014 Leaf introduced a "Lizard Cover" which improved the lifetime. can we get this?
I’m not aware of any official document or announcement about this kind of battery. I heard from Mr.Nalaka that the BMS is a completely different 2014 model onwards. There are lots of owners who use leafs in hot climates (Eg:- Arizona,TX) and experienced very little degradation (3 years to loose the first bar). Of cause, battery temperature is a factor of degradation so having an active cooled battery is an advantage but I don’t think ‘ambient’ temp matters much. ‘Internal’ temperature is the one we should keep our eye on. Also almost all actively cooled battery packs use cylindrical cells. Since they have less area to dissipate heat active cooling is essential. But this is different for a pouch cell battery. That’s why Nissan has kept away from liquid cooling for even 2019’s leaf. However, they have transferred to liquid cooling in the upcoming Ariya so we’ll have to see whether it uses cylindrical cells or not.

Agreed. We need more support for the government to at least maintain the current charging points. Leaf is a very comfortable car compared to other cars in the same price range.
