This has been driving me nuts for years! Ive done just about every fancy oil out there. I even bought a spare set heads to rebuild at a leisurely pace. I watched this video this morning and thought why not!?!? Ive done Mobile 1 Delcac but not this cuz.. well its cheaper. HOLYSHIT! I halved the amount of typewriter noise within 20 mins of highway driving. You, good sir, are my hero!!!!
@@sox7191 lol your welcome I honestly couldn’t believe it either to be honest. Even the brand new duramax trucks do it but people are scared to not do exactly what manufacturers say. My channels a bit of everything but if your a car guy give me a sub it helps me grow
I know you've said you had been hesitant to run full synthetic due to what you hear about people getting oil leaks - have you noticed any seepage since running/changing to this oil? Thanks! I also have a LB7 and she's due for an oil change
@@MrJmw8201 I don’t think jt causes them but if it’s already got some leaks it could seems worse because the oils “thinner”. But no and I put I think 10,000 miles on it within a few weeks and it didn’t burn a drop
I just changed my 07-LBZ’s oil. Rotella T6 FS 15-40 HD diesel engine oil and it started this type writer tick. 90,000 miles. I’m changing it out. Hopefully it stops.
@@thewatcher611 my buddy has a brand new duramax it does the same thing. Well known issue they put a service bulletin out for telling dealers it’s a normal function of the engine. A bunch of ford trucks had the same thing
I’ve had this ticking problem too. I have a 2018 L5P and had this ticking since it was new. I’ve always used Amsoil 15W-40 full synthetic max duty diesel oil. Don’t hear it when the truck is cold but after running and it warms up ticking is loud and aggravating. I’m gonna try this stuff on the next oil change. Truck calls for 15W oil. I assume 5W oil is ok to use? Thanks for the tip!
@@nathantaylor6063 I know some people with it happening on the Lp5 as well and ya you will be fine the difference from 5-15 weight is minute and only affects cold properties anyways. I used to use amsoil but I have mixed feelings on it now
@@matthewcampbell8442 I haven’t changed the oil yet to see if it helps. When I do and if it helps I’ll be sure to let you know. Anything that will quiet it down I’ll be glad for!
@@CruisinWithKevin But what are the valve lash numbers? Just curious. It doesn't take much to be off enough on one to make it tap like that. I still heard it in the video. Just because it was rebuilt, doesn't mean the valve lash is currently to spec. I've adjusted quite a few valves on quite a few trucks. Mostly Duramax between LB7 and LML. That's how they sound before. If they sound like that after the adjustment, you may just have a bad lifter. Most people don't know exactly how the truck was maintained before they had it. If oil changes got out to like 10K most of it's life, stuff wears out. Just sayin.
Easy way to fix your diesel typewriter tick! Should work on most modern diesels!

Is valve lash to spec? If it doesn't run right on factory recommended oil weight, you may need some work. Just sayin.

A good valve lash adjust is probably what you really need. They get to tappin pretty loud.
