Bulwarks are really fun to use in modded Empire at War games. Just straight-forward, powerful, resilient, no-frills battle ships. And because they come in three different sizes, they're suitable for all fleet compositions. You can use Bulwark I as a screening vessel or mass several of them to take out most threats. For more serious threats, a group of Bulwark II or Bulwark III ships can comfortably plow through anything less heavily armed than, say, an Allegiance battlecruiser. If you don't enjoy complicated strategy, just make lots of Bulwarks and advance them in a wide formation with some anti-fighter escorts and you'll win 99% of the time.
