I understand you've compared the Aquis with the larger Black Bay as they are similar in size but I think it should have been against the BB58 and that would win hands down. The value retention, link to Rolex, the size, movement and styling just make the BB58 a clear stand out winner. The Aquis's appeal is little more limited and too blingy for some whereas the BB58 can be worn in a lot more environments. I think Oris still has some way to go before it can steal Tudors crown but it will do so in small steps and the new 400 calibre is just one small step.
good points but I don't actually think Oris takes tudor's crown so much as it just replaces tudor as tudor continues to move up market little by little.

@Keanu Kason i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I’m always amazed at how reviewers and commentators wax on about the history and heritage of Tudor and Rolex, with the latter established in 1905 and Tudor in the 1920’s. But Oris was founded in 1904 so arguably has equal to if not better history and heritage than R&T. Worth bearing in mind.
"With the April sale of Breitling to CVC Capital Partners, and with most big Swiss watch brands currently owned by larger luxury groups, the population of truly independent Swiss watch brands is near non-existent. Yet Oris has been able to retain its independent, family-run status throughout almost all of its entire 113-year history of making mechanical tool watches." Oris rich history and loyalty to its quality before quantity is a big plus for me, from a philosophical perspective it should be one of the most respected and loved watch brand out there, especially for a real watch enthusiast. I get more impressed seeing people wearing Oris then a Tudor or a Rolex. A Oris feels like more culture. But its just in my opinion, thank you for sharing.

I've owned the Aquis, 43 mm grey version on bracelet with SW-200 movement. I currently own a Tudor BB 41 mm black. Allthough the Tudor movement is way superior I have to say the build quality and overall "stamina" over the years is better. My Aquis is 8 years old with almost everyday wear and you can hardly see any marks or fade of colour. I like the Tudor better because of performance and looks but the Aquis is far better build IMO.
Oris over Tudor for me. In my opinion the Oris is a more interesting watch. The Tudor seems a little redundant to me. Of course great movement and great build but still. Oris has his finger on the pulse and listens to their customers - they want their customers! Marketing tell a story about what you want a brand to express - history you have to look for. One has to make an effort to understand what DNA is in a watch brand. Get to know Oris - and you will understand their values and why Oris should really cost more. I might be biased as I own two Aquis models. To me the Oris is the winner. Sold my BB58 to get the Calibre 400. Can't live without a date and a ceramic bezel is just better. Also the case is much more interesting. Without the hype the Black Bays would be just another vintage sub look a like.
@@watchgecko I have the "Source of Life" and the Calibre 400 and the Calibre 400 is by far my favourite watch in my collection and my daily. @@heinrich3427 Oh The Source of Life is a great looking piece, offers a lot of contrast for sure!, We look forward to getting more hands-on time with Oris in the future :D
I don't know what a vintage sub is supposed to look like.. but I like the BB58 look much more than the Oris, and so does my gf. And this is coming from someone who does like the Oris Aquis in general
I was choosing between the teal Oris Aquis 400 and the red bezel Black Bay, and while the dial on the Oris is fantastic and nearly had me, I inevitably ended up with the red bezel BB. Everything else felt better, a bit more quality and the red gave it enough of a color splash for me. I'll get an Oris eventually but there are a ton of options with them and cheaper versions that look exactly the same so I will probably do that
I emailed them asking if they plan to do that (it’s exactly what I want too) and they said they do not plan to put the 400 in the upcycle. Hope they’re just keeping secrets but they did respond…
Honestly still like the BB58 more. The movement in my opinion is much better. The new Oris movement has the issue of skipping about a minute if you press the crown in after you set it and the movement doesn't seem to have a free sprung balance. Tudor has that free sprung balance along with Cosc certification thats basically has much better tolerances in terms of time keeping than the Oris. Love the look on both and I def think the Oris looks alot more updated and newer than the tudor. I guess it depends on which look you like more or if you value a 5 day power reserve that much.
Just FYI. as COSC normally operate within −4/+6 sec. The Oris Aquis cal.400 which is not officially COSC certified perform a deviation of less than a second per day over five days. That’s pretty stunning.
@@milaweitz yeah but that varies Watch to watch. Some aren’t regulated as well as some other oris watches. That’s why COSC is there for QC. Not to mention they are tested in different positions as well as temperature. I think cosc watches are great to have for ppl that actually uses their tool watches as it is intended.
Idk if the change of just the movement justifies the extra 30% cost. I would rather buy the oris aquis with the selita movement because I love the looks of the aquis and I already have a tudor gmt and that has 70 hours power reserve. But 38 hours is pretty little bit as I have 4 other watches that only have 38 hours power reserve
As much as many enthusiasts might not like to admit it, a key part of buying a watch is it's image and status. Oris faces the problemis that the 400 is practically identical to the standard Aquis... which is almost half its price. If you're going to pay a premium price, you want the watch to look like a premium product...
@@me-cq7wv I think it’s more the fact they didn’t state that from the start, first I heard of it was from owners rather than the manufacturer explaining the issue. Knowing what I know now I’d pick up and Oris if it was the watch for me.
I picked one up in January 2022 and it came with an explanation leaflet in the box “when setting time go 1-3min past the time you are sinking with then back the min hand up too the time you want” this works perfect every time and the moment other then that stay to about -3/month so 12 tones a year I have to deal with it….
@@brandonspencer309 thanks for the info, if it’s known and a “quirk” of the movement and there’s a way of setting accurately as you/Oris have said, I’m 100% ok with that! Was just the uncertainty at first. Might have to put that watch back on the list again now haha
As someone who is seriously looking into buying one of these two watches. The main reasons I shy away from the new Aquis are firstly the lack of freedom to put whatever strap I care to put on one. The thickness of the Oris being 13.8mm in comparison with the 11.5mm of the Black Bay. Also I'm not at all happy with the current situation vi's a vie the jumping second hand when trying to synchronise the watch after hacking. In fact I'm quite surprised that Oris would release a new movement with such a "quirk" in it. A "quirk" that will no doubt be viewed by any other possible buyer should I wish to sell it later on down the line as a defect. Add to this the heritage and brand recognition advantage of the Tudor ( albeit a tad by proxy to its elder brother Rolex). The potential value retention of the Black Bay which far outweighs that of the Oris. In addition to the above what with the recent - ish release of the Black Bay 58 Blue and you can appreciate the task of choosing has got that much more difficult. I'm also looking at Omega and their various offerings in the Seamaster, Railmaster, Aqua Terra and Speedmaster ranges. Obviously I'm going to have to have a bit of a rethink with reguard to increasing my watch buying budget... Many thanks for the video anyway even if I did find it at times a little confusing... Toodle Pip old bean.
Thanks for this vid! I recently bought the omega seamaster 300m and of course I’m already looking at my next watch🤣 I really like the oris but Its still a oris and think I would go for the regular date which you can get at around €1300. If you go at the 3k level, Tudor just had more value I believe even though I think the oris looks way better and arguably has a better movement. I think a good comparison for the oris is the breitling superocean heritage II. They both have this shiny, bit blingy diver look. Grey market you pay around €2300 for the oris and €3000 for the breitling, I would probably go for the breitling, hence that’s why I would go for the normal Aquis date.
If you offered me one watch for free, to keep and add to my collection, and wear comfortably, i would choose the Oris Aquis 400, ALL DAY LONG. The Tudor is long in the tooth, old news.
Oris, I just wish they'd fix the skipping minute hand issue that's been known with their Calibre 400. Their unique style, good sizing, and beautiful dials stand out to me. If they made an Aquis Date Relief with a blue dial and with a Calibre 400 that's had the issue fixed - then I'd be sold instantly for one.
The Oris looks a great watch, but why do they keep going with the integrated bracelet/strap options? I wear all my watches on NATO's, I can't wear bracelets. My BB is one of the watches in my collection that I will never sell, I prefer the classic looks, and the simplicity of the dial.
I get your point, but being an Aquis owner, I will say the lugs/integrated bracelet are one of the main design elements that set it apart. If they went to a standard lug, it would lose the Aquis look. I personally love the integrated bracelet
@@dorningarts That's the annoying thing for me, I really like the style of integrated bracelets, there are some great examples around. Otherwise this would be straight in my collection.
@@sagarpandita6916 I'll check at the dealers when they open again. Don't mind a silicon strap, and I really like the way they blend into the integrated lugs. It's a nice detail on a watch.
It's like driving grandpa's very nice old Mercedes-Benz versus a new Genesis GV80. History is important, but the time to step into a new era has finally come. As for you, Submariner... it was a good run. Nite nite. Hello Oris.
The Tudor is a Rolex sister company though and I feel it will almost go up in value and retain your moneys worth and is a classic design.. Oris is nice but I’m sketchy on it
Tudor is a poor man's Rolex or budget Rolex. Nothing wrong with Tudor but they look like a budget Rolex and have the image of a budget Rolex. I doubt Tudor has the same value retention as Rolex because it doesn't have the same prestige.
It’s wears much smaller than your typical 41.5mm case due to its short lug to lug distance. I have a smaller wrist and was surprised how well it wears!
Not sure how the Tudor can be considered a 'dive' watch when its only rated 200m water resistant.. Maybe ok in the shower but not confident it wouldn't be flooded if you took it diving or even snorkelling. Oris everyday in this comparison i'm afraid
Tudor watches feel pretentious. I just don't like theur design language. Some say classic, but it feels a bit grandad to me. The Aquis is a very modern diver with an integrated bracelet - the latter is a rarity. Oris heritage is on par.
The Tudor is not a "safe choice". There's nothing safe about a fat 14.8mm height with slab sided case. I listed to too many TH-camrs who fawned over the BB Heritage and as I wanted the latest and greatest I got the in-house calibre but had to flip that as it was too tall and a horrible wear.
The big thing is that $1,100 uptick in price for the Oris. That really takes it away from a value prop no doesn’t it? Adding a thousand dollar movement really doesn’t make it that much better if a watch. The Oris lived in that $1200 range and dominated it, but I think they were getting. Tired of being compared to Hamilton and Christopher Ward and wanted the push farther up. The Aquis is also a modern diver with a really dated look. Like the 70’s Omega quartz watches. Dated and not good looking at all. Oris trying to catch up to Tudor and it’s cute, while Tudor doesn’t have to do anything but put out the BB in a different color and it will sell tons more than the Oris. The Oris is just an ok watch, and is not worth the 1100 up charge. I’d get an older one, with the off the shelf movement for under a grad used.
Frankly, I think Tudor being recognized as a “budget Rolex” is more a negative than a positive. Its like Adidas continuing to make shoes that look like Yeezy’s for half the price - at this point you just look like a poser who can’t afford the real thing.
I understand you've compared the Aquis with the larger Black Bay as they are similar in size but I think it should have been against the BB58 and that would win hands down. I think Oris still has some way to go before it can steal Tudors crown but it will do so in small steps and the new 400 calibre is just one small step.

I'll get an Oris eventually but there are a ton of options with them and cheaper versions that look exactly the same so I will probably do that
I went with the Oris cal 400. No regrets.
I have the original AQUIS in green and also the BB. Awesome you can own both for £4690
I would take that Oris
im just patiently waiting for oris to make another version of their upcycle watch with the new inhouse 400 calibre movement!!! then itll be sold :D
I emailed them asking if they plan to do that (it’s exactly what I want too) and they said they do not plan to put the 400 in the upcycle. Hope they’re just keeping secrets but they did respond…
@@PeaterTheGreat Thanks for sharing that info. Thats a real shame, the upcycle deserves some upgrade treatment :(
Honestly still like the BB58 more.
@@Justsomeguy1015 it could be.
These 2 watches are great. The best decision is to have them both 😃
Are we ever gonna get the Zenith a384 review?
You're implying the Oris does not look premium? That does not register with me.
Like how the Tudor Black Bay is a poor mans Rolex submariner?
Probably still go with the Tudor out of these two. Unless Oris have fixed the 400 jumping hands issue that I have seen on other reviews.
Its no big issue and designed to do that. But if you can like with it that is :)
43.5 calibre 400 green color 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks 🙏
I have both BB Two tone and the Oris 65 and there is not much difference but the $2k in price… my Oris 65 is an amazing watch for $2K
Still Tudor! For that price, I wish they upgrade the bezel to ceramic so it won’t scratch but it would be shiny.
We hear this a lot!
I sold my Tudor for this reason. At these prices there is no excuse to not have ceramic.
Oris everytime for me with the Cal 400. Ors bracelets are faublous too and no faux rivets like the Tudor has. ors make superb pieces.
No Question. The Oris is a dream 😌
I think the price rise on the Oris is completely justified with the new in house movement its got my attention
Thanks for this vid!
I recently bought the omega seamaster 300m and of course I’m already looking at my next watch🤣
I really like the oris but Its still a oris and think I would go for the regular date which you can get at around €1300.
I wear the SD43 and I fancy the the Aquis 400
If you offered me one watch for free, to keep and add to my collection, and wear comfortably, i would choose the Oris Aquis 400, ALL DAY LONG. The Tudor is long in the tooth, old news.
I have a orissa Aquis ad I find it's more comfortable than my omega Seasalter and the loom I find is better than the omega that's my opinion
Great video Tudor is still good has no Hacking problems with its movement
Great video
Oris is far more shiny than Tudor and from that point it's closer to Rolex than Tudor.
I think if you opt for the steel bracelet one you get a rubber strap free, not sure though. I have issues with seel bracelets too 😁
@@sagarpandita6916 I'll check at the dealers when they open again. Don't mind a silicon strap, and I really like the way they blend into the integrated lugs. It's a nice detail on a watch.
I have the aquis black 400 41
Wanted an everyday watch
Oris all day. The connection with Rolex undermines the desirability of the BB for me.
Agree. I prefer the Oris, by far.
Tudor and Omega rules that price bracket
Thanks for checking out or video Martin!
Omega are obviously in another, higher bracket.
I have both. Tudor for the win.
I think the Aquis is closer to the Pelagos while the Oris Divers 65 is closer in comparison to the black bay
Oris hands down such value!!!
I understand why you compared these watches but the BB58 is better overall & a strap monster! Oh & BTW it is deployant not deployment 😉
Thanks for the feedback! hope you enjoyed the video :D
This why, i was bought oris
i got both
Oris really looks Value for Money , good watches being released by ORIS in market at a budgeted price compared to Luxury.
I rather have a Oris with a better case finishing than I wanna be Rolex . The Oris is unique and love the case and finishing design … Oris easily
It's like driving grandpa's very nice old Mercedes-Benz versus a new Genesis GV80. History is important, but the time to step into a new era has finally come. As for you, Submariner... it was a good run. Nite nite. Hello Oris.
Oris win 🏆 👍 I Buy only Rolex, omega and Oris watches
I never cared for Tudor's hour hand design
Tudor Black Bay 58 all the way!
Tudor BB !!!
:D
Hoping they will bring it in the 39 MM. Talking about the oris. Only the size here takes me out of it.
We have seen this mentioned quite a lot, you never know :D
It’s wears much smaller than your typical 41.5mm case due to its short lug to lug distance. I have a smaller wrist and was surprised how well it wears!
Tudor
The Oris is a beautiful watch, but I still prefer the Tudor
Both nice but the bb58 beats both of them.
Thanks for checking out our comparison video!
The ORIS is the better looking watch, no competition IMO
No.
Not sure how the Tudor can be considered a 'dive' watch when its only rated 200m water resistant.. Maybe ok in the shower but not confident it wouldn't be flooded if you took it diving or even snorkelling. Oris everyday in this comparison i'm afraid
LOL! Unless you're a tech diver, you're never going to get close to 200m.
Tudor watches feel pretentious. I just don't like theur design language. Some say classic, but it feels a bit grandad to me. The Aquis is a very modern diver with an integrated bracelet - the latter is a rarity. Oris heritage is on par.
The Tudor still looks a lot cleaner and I think has an aesthetic that will stand the test of time better.
On the flip side it looks just like a Rolex, and the same way they have looked for decades. Nothing new or interesting.
I like ORIS
I hate to say it…buuuuut I feel like they could have put date at the 6😂😂
I love Oris aquis date calibre 400. It is TOP diver
It's a beautiful watch to be fair!
Oris has a longer history than Tudor does
I'd take my Tissot Seastar 2000 over both of them.
tudor has mama the rolex
The Tudor is not a "safe choice". There's nothing safe about a fat 14.8mm height with slab sided case. I listed to too many TH-camrs who fawned over the BB Heritage and as I wanted the latest and greatest I got the in-house calibre but had to flip that as it was too tall and a horrible wear.
Out of curiosity, what's your wrist size? Out of the watches you own , which is your favorite?
👏👏👏
Thanks!
BB is no way sub $3000
The Black Bay is boring as it can get. The Aquis is by far the better looking watch
Thanks for taking the time to check out our comparison, appreciate the personal insight too!
I bought oris in official retail for $ 3.5k a few days ago
Oris
Frankly, I think Tudor being recognized as a “budget Rolex” is more a negative than a positive. Its like Adidas continuing to make shoes that look like Yeezy’s for half the price - at this point you just look like a poser who can’t afford the real thing.
Oris.
