    A really magnificent watch, inside and out. At the end of the day it's hard to justify any watch over $1000 USD and comes down to personal preferences.

      Exactly right. Once they have it for a while on the GREEN Aquis, I will go to the AD and try on both...and see...and decide which green one to get...and try them on again, and think about it, and walk out with one of them :) But that means I won't be getting the "regular" Aquis green for some time, but I have to wait to compare.

      @@brandonspencer309 Don't know what the pricing situation in Canada is like, but in the Netherlands I could get a rubber strap for around €250 with the clasp from an AD. Straps, like watches, sometimes also have some wiggle room in the price. Although it might not be as much, still worth trying though.

    They might have missed a product design and marketing trick here: release a “planet ocean” style variation “Aquis Hydroscape” etc, etc, on the base Aquis (or extend the professional line) and justify the price disparity over the SW200 model with a differentiated case and 600m etc? This would also justify it bumping price wise into tool watches with IHMs like the Pelagos. Great to see the breakthrough work the engineers have done here in terms of innovation...

    • @VersedNJ

      Also figure in years down the road, to get a Selitta repaired or serviced would be far easier and a lot cheaper. If and when Oris comes out with different styles and colors, I probably will get one. Right now, doubtful you would get any discount. That and it being a new movement, would like to wait and see if there are issues, heck Patek Rolex, Tudor, Panari and others have had problems with new movements. Wait a year, then I will look.

  • @Jonjuliox
    @Jonjuliox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I bought this about a year ago right around when this video came out, I'm just going to say I really love this watch. I have zero complaints. It's been running +/- 2-3 seconds and despite near daily wear looks almost brand new still after taking quite a few hard knocks. 😅

    • @Jaypilot100
      @Jaypilot100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will wear mine for about 4 days and them take it off for about 3 days. By day 2 it's dead. I have never seen 5 days out of it. Have you had this problem? How much do you have to wind it to get 5 days or can you over wind it? Love it otherwise

    • @mercuriall2810
      @mercuriall2810 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jaypilot100You can’t overwind this watch. If you wind it manually you will reach a point where winding further is not adding more run time to the movement, but continuing to wind beyond this point will not damage or overwind the watch.
      The idea of an overwound watch is a myth. A manual wind only watch will not let you wind it beyond a certain point, the crown will simply stop turning. Once fully wound, the bridle of the mainspring of an automatic watch will start slipping in the barrel in response to further winding.
      If you give your Oris a good winding after you take it off, it should be running when you go to put it back on 3 days later.

    I think that between this and the ProPilot X, Oris is really trying to flex their horological muscles and prove that they are just as good as the other entry-level luxury brands, specially Tudor. I think the pricing is going to prove to be whatever makes or breaks them in that aspect. Most companies really do go through a hard transition in perception once they go in-house. • @ericgrace9995
    @ericgrace9995 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    3 Points
    1: The movement looks incredible.
    2: It's made the original Aquis a second choice watch. If I had recently bought an Aquis, with the off the shelf movement , I think I might be annoyed.
    3: Why bring out a watch costing £2700 that is, to all intents and purposes, identical to a watch costing £1600 ? A "luxury" watch isn't solely defined by its mechanism. Finish, strap, clasp, polish, aesthetic all come into it. In all these respects, this is still a £1600 Aquis.
    Status can be a factor in watch purchases, so it might have made more sense to bring out a new model as they're now in Tudor territory.
    Great review by the way...

      They had to jack up the price to pay for the R&D of the 400 and used an existing model to save money. I have no problem with them doing this. The 10 year warranty and service interval knocks some of that original cost down. I also believe that ORIS’ fit and finish is easily as good if not better than the Tudor and their bracelets are sold and very comfortable.

    • @ericgrace9995
      @ericgrace9995 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @BackdriftNightfall So you really think that everyone who buys a Rolex does so because of the watches' technical specs and build quality ?
      People don't buy them because they're a status symbol ?
      You may not like it, but you'd have to be an idiot to deny it.

      @@DWilliam1 If you're right on that, Tudor has pulled off an incredible piece of marketing that has conned almost every U tube watch reviewer and millions of customers.
      Until recently , Tudor fitted modified ETA movements into most of their models...as do Oris (ETA clones)...and yet Tudor has routinely charged a £/$/€ 1000 premium for equivalent watches that have equivalent movements.

    I have several Aquis models and the issue here for me really is the price point. I bought them all NIB via reputable US gray market sellers for $1000-$1500. If the price is going to float into the $3000 +/- range that's going to be a make or break issue. I like my Aquis watches, but Oris is not a brand I'm ready to drop $3000+ on. The movement is an impressive flex but in my experience they need to bring up their Aquis bracelet engineering/manufacturing game (screws backing out and detaching Aquis bracelets is a common occurrence, and two of mine had this issue) and service game if they are going to be at near Omega pricing levels.

    A new bad boy on the block...
    I like it, and the quick detach bracelet is awsome!
    wish it had an on the fly micro adjust like the new Monta. Maybe that will be the next area of improvment for them now they have got some spotlight from the new movement.

    I own an Aquis 39.5 with the tungsten bezel, it looks beautiful but the timing could be more accurate. Would i pay twice the price for an in house movement to solve that... no, i'd be eying up a black bay instead around that sort of money.

    Love the watch, movement seems an improvement, but costs US1,000 more than my Oris Lake Baikal which looks similar and like the dail better. If I didn't have it, maybe. Still Kudo's to Oris. Maybe next year if they have more models with the new version. If and when they toss this new movement into the Divers 65 in bronze and not in bronze, I'd be interested.

    5 day power is impressive and a selling point when comparing to other watches, but not for 50% higher price! Sounds like pricing to quickly recover R&D spend, but it puts the 400 up against a wider range of competition.

    I'm intrigued by this movement, but that is a big premium. I wonder if it would have been easier to swallow if it were introduced with an entirely new design, rather than looking exactly the same as the much more affordable one. For comparison, I have a Ball Roadmaster Icebreaker with their in-house movement. There is also one with a standard (modified ETA) movement, and the price difference is only a few hundred dollars. I admit it is not as fancy as the Oris 400, but it has an 80 hour power reserve, 28,800 bph retained, and is COSC certified.

    Hello, Jody. I am huge fan of your channel! I would like to suggest a watch for you. It's calvin klein infinite (K5s3414y) which is selling on jomashop only for 149.9 dollors. It has sapphire glass, eta2824-2, metal bracelet, etc. Since your channel is for affordable watches, this would be perfect watch to make video about.
    Having genuine eta movement which costs more than the price of the watch itself is insane in my opinion. I strongly suggest you to find more about this watch!

    Great informative video. Love your work and unbiased opinions so thank you. In regards to the watch. Beautiful aquis as usual. Amazing colour, and now wonderful in house movement. It looks better than the seamaster, submariner and the Tudor. Gives the Breitling heritage a run as well. The movement is personal. If you don't mind throwing extra money away for bragging right, then go for it. Otherwise the original will certainly do the job just well for many years. There's no right or wrong. Whatever floats your boat. All the aquis watches are gorgeous. Always have been and wont make a lot difference. I love this new colour however but might wait a couple of years for a good second hand example. It's stunning.

    (And this is coming from someone who’s very happy with the green 39,5 aquis)
    But it puts it up there with some of the Nomos watches - been thinking about the Nomos Ahoi for years...

    Nice looking watch , seems way too much$ for the in house design movement they're closer to an omega 300 m in pricing but at a tag heuer aquaracer quality I own both and like them both but you can see the difference in price and quality I would have rather seen a cos sw200 than a none, in house design movement with out such a huge increase in price
