  • And that's a wrap! so I'm drying the cows off early but I'm using dry cow again this year so hopefully that should reduce mastitis and the SCC for next season again.

    We DCT everything over 150 as well, we also test sealed them also this year, as well as teat sealing all the other cows except for the R2’s at the lease block

    Enjoy the break..I appreciate our Irish rain here.able to graze for 9 to 10 months off grass without feeding out .we wouldn't cope with your drought s at all.

    Well Andy the tired pasture you showed is where having your own drill would come into it's own rather than paying a contractor
    Not a big fan of how teat seal is used in nz it was designed to be used inconjunction with dry cow therapy with older cow's that run milk
    I wouldn't use it on incalf maiden heifers

    Enjoy the break from milking. Used to think putting 12 to 15 cows dry at once was a chore but putting tubes into 60 would be an enormous task. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    We dry cow and teat seal everything, even our heifers. Main reason is because our farm is ex-swamp (Bay of Plenty) and gets very wet over the winter months. Enjoy watching your content Andy! Keep up the good work.

    We r in ashburton and teat seal all our 350 heifers in April the biggest reason for us down here is because of the wet/muddy conditions when they r on kale or fodder beet for 8 weeks +

    Hi Andrew. I’d highly recommend doing test seal on heifer you won’t regret it. On a bad year I might have one heifer come in with mastitis.

    Dried off 260 odd cows here in Canterbury on Thursday and will plan on drying off the rest by end of may. Everything gets combo (dc therapy and teat seal) and all heifers get teat sealed by the vets. Well worth it having ya heifers sealed as reduces mastitis in them dramatically in early spring. This will be second season have done full dry cow combo on herd and currently sitting at 78 scc average for the season for 1020 cows. Mastitis has been minimal this season and will probably take a look at selecting cows next season for combo and for teat seal only.

    How do you survive with no money for 10 weeks

    • @bobbob-fg5wy
      @bobbob-fg5wy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plenty of folk get paid not via a weekly in a wage. You budget your money, so what you do earn covers when you wont. You heard him mention at the end he was down about 40K, he could have made that 40K in milk solids by buying in feed and feeding out. But if you have to spend 40K to make 40k or even if it was less to spend to make the same with all the messing about etc. Its about planning and budgeting.
