  • Today I am taking you through what happens now that we are in winter and all the cows are dry. Its a lot of shifts.
I also found a cow with mastitis the other day and I'm getting the last of the fertilizer on the new grass

Looks like you have some birdlife, maybe pigeons, that have taken up residence in your tractor shed.

In the US here. I bought some Lucas, Quigley and Mohaka the other day from CRV. I have a Jersey/Angus cow bred to Lucas. I've bred my Guernsey to Mohaka, hoping she settled.

You grow as much grass in the winter as we grow in the summer in the UK. We can,t graze in the winter from about Nov to April ish too too wet, this year was even worse. They would be up to their hocks in mud. We don't get a holiday for the Kings birthday in the UK how weird is that! Obviously NZ and Aus think more of the King than we do😂😂

Good videos mate. Hey are you still milking once a day? 540kg on once a day?
Do you mind sharing your herd average kgs? Your doing a great job!
Why two wheel motor bike? I am thinking of getting a two wheeler as much cheaper and i ride motorcycles off farm anyway.
Hope you have a great year ahead. Cheers

Yep still OAD. Just need more cows like her 😂
      Herd did 340ms/cow this year
Just find them easier to get around on, you can ride over fences etc 👍

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

No I haven’t, it’s a good dry land crop and does well. But quite expensive to grow, like it need harvesting 3-4 times a year so stick to grass.
Maybe if we had a runoff close by I’d give it a go

    • @peasant5612

Think he was spreading Sustain which is Agrotain coated Urea.
Other farmers will spread Ammo30 or 36 with or without the agrotain coating.
Ammo is combo of Nitrogen and Sulphur.
      30% N 14% S and 36% N 9% S

There is a percentage on you milk statement after each milking. Every collecting is recorded. In Ireland we get payed for fat + protein - water

1 milk solid is about 10 litres 👍
For jerseys it can be less as the milk is more creamy and for Holsteins it would be more

You obviously know NO dairy farmers as that's a contradiction in terms. My husband is a dairy farmer (in US) and he works his butt off 24/7 with hardly a day off and vacations are rare.
