Growing up in Ontario and driving around the countryside one could always tell a Dutch farm because of its cleanliness and tidiness. Your farm and this one are true to this observation. Very proud dairy farmers.

You have a knack for finding very good farms to tour. John seemed very relaxed and so it felt like we were watching two good buddies just sharing a conversation. I watch my videos on a 65 inch 4K TV so I am able to notice details someone on a tablet or smartphone might not notice. When you were up on the second level I immediately noticed how calm, content and quiet that barn was. Glad you mentioned it. You must absorb some new information on every one of these like the silage, never though of it but it makes total sense to layer it. Great video, one of my favourite farm tours so far, you always set the bar pretty high. Thanks.👍

Excellent video of their lovely dairy farm. Loved the drone shots. Beautiful home. I was wondering if they also had horses for making their own bedding. The upper platform/office area is a great view of the herd. Good reason for John to be proud of the work they're doing. They know their cows well and take great care of each one. I like their use of 'necklaces' for the ladies. My first look at the self-propelled Strautmann Feed mixer. Very cool! Appreciate John and the other gentleman giving the tour of their grand facilities and herd. Thanks Jan!

I really love the simple calf barn set up, no transportation needed. Generally the farm is great, am glad they think about the welfare of both visitors and the girls.

Love the video, great clip... I couldn't get over how quite it was in the barns. Those cows looked so peaceful and happy. I noticed they really give lots of feed and pile it on, those cows never get hungry and look nice and healthy. Love their accents and the way they talk, again I want to go to Holland now!

Extremely interesting to get a look at farming in a different place. I would point out to the younger farmers out there to look at how efficient the Dutch are with use of both technology like the Milker Bots and their use of space to maximize productivity. John and the other farmers in this video are obviously very educated and experienced professionals. What would be on the grocery store shelves in Europe without the Dutch farmer?

And it's really different in each country - not only many technologies were developed here but agriculture in general started here for good and that is why we had so many serious wars over the centuries - farmers will fight for their land, we cant just run away and be moved somewhere else.

I've seen those loader/feeder machines on vids before, but they are superb- leaving silage faces like that, loading stuff on the floor like chopped straw, or root crops, brewers grains (beer grains waste in UK is in high demand) and so accurate, taking a lot of inaccuracy out of the job due to the way it all works. V good farm, superb Holstein cows, excellent care of them.

Thanks for the tour and all of the explanations, John! The solar array surely saves you some money - we’re finally starting to see more and more of them on farms where I live (almost in the exact center of the US). Interesting theory on the silage; it actually makes sense and is not something I would have ever thought about. I wonder how long it will be before we see that happening over here? Next summer, Jan, maybe??

So are there predominantly Dutch farmers in Saskatchewan? What tires of cheese does they make. I worked at a cheese factory in Wisconsin that made a lot of Gouda, Muenster, Farmers, and Chedder. But I'm surrounded by factories that make quite a variety of cheeses. But over the last 20 years the cheese factories & farms have gotten huge.

Interesting operation. I was surprised to hear that they mix "horse manure" in with the straw pack for bedding. I have seen that type of feed wagon on most European dairy farms, with the self-contained loader & truck, no need for a bucket loader. to load the feed wagon. To me that seems more efficient, but there is the added cost of a piece of costly equipment that has only one function on tjhe famr. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I wasn't sure you were doing 'farm tours' on your vacation. That was very interesting and so educational! I know they are part of a 'group' for the milk 'sale' but I assume that was a father/son family owned farm or is it leased land, group/corporation owned? Is that an average size of farm in 'hectors' and size of the herd in the Netherlands? Jan, how many cows on your family farm are 100K producers?

The average farm here in the Netherlands is around 110 cows and 60 hectares. And the dairy farms here are privetly owend or by a family but also some farms are leased. And about the Milk coöperations, as a farmer you are a member of the Milk coöparion and as a member you are also coowner of the coöparation.
