Training Heifers In The Cowshed For The First Time

Today I am bringing the heifers to the milking shed to run them through it so they start getting used to it and become familiar with the process for when they calve and teat sealing etc.
I am also shutting down the cows in preparation for dry off soon

Nice one Andrew. I'm sure you told us before, I can't remember, but what's Steve's plans for the cows? Will he putting them in calf?
Is he also a dairy farmer?

Steve is buying the cows and milking them though the winter. He will rejoin them in the coming spring or ponentially join them soon and have then as autumn calving cows. He is going to milk 3 cows though the winter and Andrew will pick them up again in the spring and rejoin them himself.

He buys good young empties and milks them then gets them in calf for autumn calving, so march-may next year

Are the rotaries easier to handle the new cows? I'd guess with a rotary they just walk into their own stall and don't have to line up and stay still.
