You are sitting on the wrong side of the car though, for the rest of the world. I would think chances are there is a bigger chance someone hits a curb with your car, than not knowing how to drive stick. However, I do support the PDK choice as well.

Totally get the PDK option, I remember as a mechanic back in the day replacing clutches on brand new cars because guy had ripped through a clutch manuving it on and off the transporter ramp!

Mazel Tov. The fire extinguisher is required for many of the EU countries you'll travel through, so you're good there. Surprised you still went with a RHD car, though, given that many of the places you're going are LHD locales.
Don't use big suitcases, use lots of small bags, and make sure as many as possible are wheelies. A rail across the back is great for those occasions when you need to have a shirt/suit and tie without creases. I always travel with a two-suiter and lay it on top of the other bags.

A 911 at last! Shall be watching more of this channel now. Spot on about shipping companies. I shipped my first sports car a 350 Z Nissan from Japan in 2006 and the idiot at the docks was crunching the gearbox right in front of me the **** Cringe much!

My best buddy at this point is at the Porsche dealership here in Beirut, Lebanon purchasing a brand new 2018 Porsche Carrera T with the PDK gearbox. Colour is in the same GT Silver Metallic, it's however equipped with the 20-inch Carrera Sport wheels & the panoramic sunroof.

From an American: if we don't drive manual anymore, we typically don't do it ever, but if an American is STILL driving manual, they're probably not complete shit at it. That being said there's nothing wrong with PDK- it's like the best auto gearbox ever made.

I agree w you about most of us here in US not being able to drive stick! I grew up in the 70s when there were still lots of manual cars here. My parents wouldn’t let me get my license until I was good at the stick. Later when I met my wife, she’s a bit younger than me, I had to teach her.
Beautiful car, congrats Sam.... but let's see what you gonna do when you find dirt roads, really bad broken roads and such in your journey.... a Macan GTS would have been a much much better choice IMO for that kind of trips (I do have quite a bit of experience driving around the world for several months and really very few countries have Spanish-like quality of roads, meaning really bloody fantastic roads and road network), but hey it's your money and your life. Enjoy mate!!
Glad you went for an awesome car in the end, something like an SUV wouldn't have been anywhere near as exciting! As you said, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity!

You got lured in by Porsche's marketing technique's limited-edition-partsbin-special Sam. Did you really think that people would be let down if they saw you in a base spec Carrera with PDK without PASM? You're not going to notice the '20kg weight saving' unless you go to several racetracks during this trip. I don't get why people get a Carrera T with PDK - the whole point of getting Carrera T is to experience the 3.0 litre turbocharged engine with the least turbo lag, manual (with shorter gear ratios than a base Carrera manual) + LSD (which base Carrera manual doesn't have) and a 20kg weight saving. The PDK Carrera T weighs about 20kg more than the manual. To be fair, Porsche made the wrong decision to offer the Carrera T with PDK in the first place. You're adding weight back and increasing the centre of gravity by having that roof rack and that suitcase, so you might as well have gone for the base Carrera with PDK - that would have allowed you the funds to invest more into making this trip truly memorable.
Agreed. He could have easily saved 5-figures by going with a base Carrera with PDK. I wonder how depreciation will be with these Carrera Ts...
I guess he wouldn't be paying a significant amount more (per month) as he's financing this car, not paying everything in one go.
Try going through thousands of kilometers in a manual.. You'll go nuts, especially in cities and on the motorway.

Got mine in July...first Porsche, first manual car, first time driving a manual...its exhilarating to drive. Manual or PDK..really up to your taste but I'm sure the T will not disappoint and live up to its purpose.
So basically all donations went towards buying a 3rd sportscar for Sam! Wow. Nicely fooled. The trip I guess has been already paid and the donations helped to buy this 991.

The Carerra T is my favorite little touches to make it feel special and even with the PDK you still get the shorter gear ratios to add to the fun on back roads! Can't wait to see the wrap!
Pull the passenger seat forward and stand up the case behind it. Look up James’ “theStradman”. His older Lambo videos have the ski box mounted and shows what he’s put in there. Best of luck to you Sam.
Before the cover was pulled off I was thinking 911t.....911t.....911t. Great choice. The perfect balance. The history of the original 70s t and the comfort needed for a long adventure. Not sure about the PDK.....but I get it.

Great choice and can't wait to see the wrap. No apologies needed for the PDK, given the miles you'll be driving and it's fun in and of itself, in different ways of course, than the manual. My wife and I took a 2400 mile jaunt through northeaster U.S. and then Nova Scotia, Canada - the Cabot Trail - in a Cayman S with PDK. I'm glad I had the PDK and we found ourselves going off the beaten track numerous times and did just fine. Safe travels Sam and looking forward to the journey. Cheers from Northeastern, U.S.
