    I went crazy when there was a pro version, but after watching the full video, I think the pros are worse because of the loudness, but that's preference. I think the reason for that is Akko's design on the sides of the stem, and I would say just get the cream yellow, it sounds better in my ears and cheaper by $0.05, which for my country is huge

    @canny7x ปีที่แล้ว

    I just got done building a new keyboard and I used the Pros... Yeah they are kinda 'poppy' but I don't think they are as loud for me as they seem to have been for you. It must be down to a combination of case, which is plastic, or maybe I'm just not pressing them as hard as you are, it's really hard to tell.
    This much I do know. They are nice and smooth and they have a slightly shorter throw than what I'm used to in a set of Gateron Blacks. Also the price was low due to a Black Friday sale. Which is probably the primary reason I eventually chose them. Bottom line is that I'm happy with my new keyboard.

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not bad switches at all! Especially for a Black Friday price! Also, this hobby is all about personal preferences at the end of the day, so every kind of combination is perfect, as long as the one who uses it gets satisfied. :)
      I just feel that they should not to be considered as new versions of the legendary Cream line. The OGs were not that loud, not clacky (my comparison might focus on this change in sound), and you're also right in the fact, that the case, keycap, etc. materials/designs have quite a big effect on sound! :)

    I have an akko 3068 b plus keyboard and these switches don’t fit in for some reason despite both having 5 pins and being hot swappable, I tried putting too much force in it but it still won’t click in, when It did one time it worked but when I pulled out my keycap, the switch came with it. I don’t wanna break it, nor cut off the 2 extra pins, am I missing something?

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, sounds intriguing.. The switch usually comes out together with the keycap when the mounting pins (the little plastic parts between the top and bottom housing, on the front and back) do not click into the plate. This can be 'fixed' by pushing them with a tweezer to the right place.
      Maybe the plate is somehow not correctly/precisely cut(?).. Some akko boards feature some rather cheap solutions from time to time..

    • @Glycer
      @Glycer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thoccnology I fixed it, I actually wasn't pressing enough for it to snap xD.. I was too afraid on breaking the keyboard as because the 3 pins were just too easy to snap in compared to the 5 pins. • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! ^^ Hm, tough question. If your SA keycaps are pretty thick, that might help - but as I remember from my only time experimenting with SA profile, it makes the setup louder in general.
      I'd say use as much sound dampening in the case as you can do (EVA foam, or some packaging foam can do it if you have no access to other kinds of foam), and give it a try with - and then without tape mod (tape mod is basically redirecting the switch sound backwards to your direction reflecting the sound, so not using tape might let the switch sounds into the case where they can be absorbed.
      Also apply a bit more lube to the V3 PROs that will also help with thocking them.
      Please let me know how did it turn out, if you have the time - I'm genuinely interested how does it sound with SA keycaps!

    The v3 cream yellow should also be compatible with the cherry profile, given that it has a shorter total travel.
    Did you test regular v3 cream yellow with cherry keycaps?
    Also: Can you compare the housing of both in terms of quality/robustness? Check the cutout on the top for the pro at 0:40. It's thinner than the regular yellow which makes it easier to bend.
    Can you confirm?

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for asking! I just re-checked with an R2 keycap both the switches (paper strip test). The non-Pro is certainly tighter as the Pro version, it nearly clatches the paper - and unfortunately I don't have those expensive keycaps that are nearly 1.5x thicker than my existing ones.
      Also regarding the specs sheet the Pros have shorter total travel. And their stem is nearly 0.5mm longer.
      (This adds up and can result in a 'higher sitting' keycap resulting less opportunity to interference.)
      Regarding the robustness of the top housing I can confirm that the Pros are a whole lot skinnier - and more prone to damage. Thanks for pointing this out, I totally missed that perspective!

    The PRO Blues are just incredible sounding with ABS Cherry caps, especially in a poppey board even a basic one like a GMK67. I generally prefer muted and deeper setups, but that combo is just too incredible. I think you got a bad impression of the sound because XDA PBT is deep and suited to creamy and thoccy, but ALSO because it's tall and brittle it echos high pitched sounds which is what the new akkos produce, so you get a displeasing combination of deep sounds combined with the clackiness echoing around and not being clean. IMO having a wide frequency range of sound is what makes boards sound cheap, where narrower sound profiles, of JUST hyperclack or JUST deep thock or JUST mid-range creamy, can all sound really premium.

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a 'bad' impression at all ^^
      I'm just positive that they shouldn't have been named 'Cream'/creamy switches (because as you said too they're perfect BUT poppy switches).
      Also it's a good switch/sound profile/board/keycap/whatever exactly until the one who uses them like it - it's all about personal preferences at the end of the day. :3
      /Honestly, I didn't want to sound confusing at all - in my recent reviews that's why I took out my personal thoughts on a switch/board, just not to mislead anyone in any way./

    Yeah, I guess I wsill have to get a tester and try these out for myself. Every review I watch says something different. You say the Yello Pro are louder and less creamy than the old version. Others say they are creamier and more silent and are def worth the upgrade. And then there are people who say they are pretty much identical in sound and feel. So yeah, no point in watching reviews, guys. Just get a tester and try them out for yourself.

      That's indeed the best idea!
      (Although in my review I'm not only saying these, I show the two sound tests - in the same keyboard, same keycaps, with the same microphone, from the same position. So I think it's still a valid comparison for those who can't get testers to try them out.)

    can someone tell me if the v3 version is different from some non-v3 version?
    or if there are only v3 and v3 pro versions

      As far as I know, the V3 product line is a completely new one. Its predecessors were the CS switches. They wanted to make some changes, new materials, builts, etc. so they created a new product line - which introduced the V3 Cream Yellow as a first.

      @@CosmicCatA350 I hate lubing switches, but the non-Pro is so much more creamier that I'd go for it (lubing has to be done basically once).
      That's a sound profile of my personal preference and I'd use it 80% of the time.
      But if I could I'd buy a pack of Pros as well, because I quite like clacky switches too - for the rest of the time.
      Basically they cost half the price of any other switches, so I can convince myself that this is an economically good decision 😅😂 (I'm SO lucky and grateful that I can try out multiple choices)
      The main question is: which sound profile do YOU prefer?
