      Khadar Mila that’s quite normal. Depends on where you land, or if there’s no FOs certified for specific operations. Also, sometimes, when a captain transitions from one aircraft to another, the instructor who is also a captain, sits on the right seat.

    Autothrust disengaged while A/P was still on? Instead of using GS-mini function especially useful in windy conditions in the Faroes?

    • @vagadal
      @vagadal 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      GS-mini function does not work well in all weather conditions, especially when the ground speed can fluctuate plus or minus alot, like places as Faroe Islands and other mountainous countries, where mechanical turbulence due to strong wind play a big part. I was the one sitting on the left seat on the video with a good friend and former colleague of mine and disconnecting the A/T is normal practice in windy conditions like in the Faroe Islands. Better to have a steady trust setting with small adjustments and allow the speed to fluctuate than waiting for engine spool up time when you most need it. But it all comes to local knowledge of the place, you are flying.

    What was the pilot monitoring calling out on approach? It sounded like "plus 20... plus....". Also. Why @5:34, did he first say "no decel", then said "decel"?

    • @immanuelj8952
      @immanuelj8952 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Patrick Mitchell the plus 20 calls were the first officer calling the wind speeds as they were gusting and changing constantly. He probably said no decel because he did not feel the aircraft decelerating at that time but after that it began to slow down so he then changed the call to decel.

    • @patrickmitchell6968
      @patrickmitchell6968 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@immanuelj8952 Thanks. I thought he saw something on the instruments that made him say "no decel". I guess it's true you can feel the aircraft decelerating.

    • @aneregurrola9562
      @aneregurrola9562 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      When the autobrake is armed, after touchdown it shows a green message saying decel just above the ON light. This time it wasn't showing decel but as normal ops the captain started to call out decel until he realised that the autobrake wasn't working. You can just see that as soon as he says "no decel" a green light illuminates saying decel (maybe the autobrake did not activate at first but it end up doing). Continuing whith the sequence when the pilot flying hears "no decel" he just brakes manually which turns out to disconnect the autobrake. If you didn't understand something just tell me and I'll try to explain it back!

    • @joseloaiza9559
      @joseloaiza9559 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The first officer was monitoring the speed of the approach. Plus 20, Plus 10, means means that the aircraft is flying 20-10 knots above the speed for the approach. if you look carefully the video you can see in the primary flight display of the captain how the speed varies according to the call outs of the first officer.

      Autothrottle is less effective in very gusty conditions like this

    • @tomstravels520
      @tomstravels520 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gusts constantly alter the aircrafts Indicates air speed and the auto thrust just keeps adjusting the engines power to chase the requested speed. Turning it off it stops this and the engine power stays still

    • @fernandoalonso9327
      @fernandoalonso9327 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Airbus recommends A/T specially in gusty winds, for the GS mini function... it’s weird to disconnect the A/T while maintaining the A/P...

    • @venividiviciboss
      @venividiviciboss 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fernando Alonso the GS mini function also works with manual thrust. Airbus recommends A/T in turbulent conditions, but manual thrust in gusty conditions.

    • @venividiviciboss
      @venividiviciboss 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fernando Alonso and disconnecting A/T before the AP is standard procedure. The duration of him flying such a long time with this automation is a matter of taste, but not wrong.

    • @bhojjadamotabanda

      The problem is that would pilotless planes be commercially viable? Would people feel comfortable to fly in them? How would the computers be made hack-proof so that no unauthorised person can overtake control from ground? Would the regulators allow them? Technologically, it can be done even now, but it wod take a complete new generation to feel comfortable enough to pay to travel in them.
