Split is so beautiful. Croatians have such a beautiful country! Would absolutely love to see the visual 23 landing if you ever have a chance to record it :) Thanks for this fantastic approach video.
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! The country looks very beautiful from the air! I assume it is the same when on the ground! Originally, we expected runway 23 due to the forecasted winds. Here is the link to an approach to runway 23 which I recoded a while ago with only one camera th-cam.com/video/XRDrwhrEPC4/w-d-xo.html As soon as I get the chance to produce a 5 camera video of a runway 23 approach, I will - for sure - do that. Amazing! Finally, Croatia one of the most beautiful countries. Let's hope, that one day you get the circling and have the cameras with you. Again thank you for a great video.

Hello Cpt. Another really nice approach video to the RWY 05. 👌🛬 Croatia is a beautiful country with a unique landscape. Thank you for the great views from the cockpit and of course the great insights into your work! 🏆 I'm always amazed by your interesting and great videos! What I really liked and like are the displays of the charts and instruments. Thanks also for the photos of you and the cabin crew and your beautiful airplane. 😀 With that in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice week. Kind regards from Styria 🤗 Werner
As always: Thank you so much for being a loyal subscriber of my channel and for the great and detailed feedback! This helps a lot! Many greetings to Styria!
Your videos get better and better! LIked the MCDU views, and the outside pictures of your plane at the airport - makes it even more real. And the approach to Split was very beautiful scenery. You went right over the top of the old town. Great to see. Many thanks.
You have been giving us absolutely gorgeous views on beautiful weather flights, and I have been thoroughly enjoying them. However, I love to see what it's like on a bad weather day and what you have to do differently.
Thanks for your friendly words! The next video will be published Saturday morning. It will show our departure out of Split. During the climb, you will see some weather avoidance maneuvers.
Lovely airport and area, great team work as always, very professional, still the best aviation channel on my Subs. Will do this flight in the Toliss A321 this evening.
Beautiful approach and incredible quality as always! I've been to Split this summer and it's beautiful. By the 1000' RA callout we have an incredible shot of the old town of Trogir. When I was visiting the city I couldn't help myself but look up to the aircrafts landing on rwy 05 😁. I was waiting for your video on this approach and here it is! Thank you sir for sharing your wonderful job!
Excellent video, thank you! I`m here after watching lots of Mentour Pilot videos and to see it all in action was simply amazing. Also watching the city of Trogir, where my two sisters were born and the Split airport where my father worked in the 70s, from air touched my heart. Thank you once again and keep up the wonderful work both in the cockpit and on youtube!

Thank you for another great video. Love the extra footage after you land too, the beautiful scenery and the deboarding. Please add that on all future videos. I would look forward to the RWY23 approach in multi-camera views as well. It's one of my favourite destinations to travel to and practice on in Microsoft Flight Simulator - with an Airbus, of course!

Excellent videos, love watching them all, great job captain. Was wondering if you could also add a small window cut from the engine status panel, would be nice to see N1 during different phases of the flight. Good work!
Thanks for the good feedback! This is a good idea! But it is not that easy to get a good capture of the engine instruments. I will try to find a solution. It may take some time! Have a great day!
I've never been to Croatia, but it looks fantastic - will have to add it to the list! And one to try in MS Flight Simulator, especially with the wobbly runway 🙂
this is beautiful. i am shocked by how much you talk all the way. :D i always thought you sit silently just like us in the back. :D or drinking coffee, taking a nap... :D great video.
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! Besides the briefings, setup and ATC communication, the following is standard: Below 10,000 feet, we avoid talking about non flight related things. Above 10,000 feet, we can talk about whatever we want. Sometimes it is quiet, sometimes we talk a lot. It depends on the mood of the pilots. We take our naps at home. Not in the cockpit.
Another great landing Captain! Thank you for the nice video and also for flashing some instances of the MCDU screen. Aviation enthusiasts are like dry sponges, they will absorb any drop of information you give them, nothing goes to waste 😁
Thanks for your support of the channel as a member, your good feedback and your question! We usually switch off already one engine on our way to the parking position. Here we wanted to make sure that there was a cool down time of not less than 3 minutes after high thrust application before we switched off engine 2.
So nice to see my home country on your video captain. Hopefully maybe one day you land to Zadar or Zagreb if Eurowings fly there. :)) would love to see those approach videos
Thanks for watching and your feedback! Yes, we fly to Zagreb and to Zadar. It is just a matter of my duty schedule. Due to the large variety of destinations it may take a while until I am scheduled to those airports. Many greetings to Croatia!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Hopefully maybe one day Captain in the future we can see videos from those cities as they are close to my heart and would love to see them from your perspective :)) Safe flying sir :)))
Excellent as always with stunning views. I notice you discussed Brindisi as your alternative. However, when your colleague briefed the fuel prediction, on the fuel prediction page you have Bari LIBD selected as the alternative.
Thanks for watching and your feedback! Before the flight and during the flight, we discussed several alternate options. Most of this is not visible in the video. Here are more insights: Our original calculated alternate was Dubrovnik. Due to forecasted thunderstorms at our arrival time, we took the alternate fuel for Brindisi, which had the best weather forecast (no thunderstorms) plus a good amount of extra fuel. Bari was another option with less distance and a weather forecast a little better than Dubrovnik. The photo of the fuel prediction page was done sometime intermediate. The fuel value is our entered value for Brindisi, but the alternate airport is still Bari. This was updated again after the photo had been taken before we started the descent. During the briefing, the first officer was reading the correct updated page which showed Brindisi airport and our entered fuel amount to fly to Brindisi. (I am sorry for not showing the updated picture of the page in the video) Due to the improved weather at Split and Dubrovnik airports, we even would have changed this again in case of a diversion to Dubrovnik airport.
Hey! I really like those videos and I always watch them in the weekends. Really nice to see the communication such as the Airbus briefing from the FCTM and more to later apply it in my simulator. I was wondering why the briefing is started so late though, AFAK doing it before would make more sense in case that the STAR were to be incorrect etc. Thank you for the content!
Thanks for watching and your feedback! In general, we communicate as crew the whole flight. We discuss about all options and possibilities. Especially during the flight in the video, we discussed the (way more complicated) RNAV-circling approach to runway 23 in depth and did the setup together. In addition, we prepared the approach to runway 05. If the wind is not clearly in favor of one landing direction, we have to wait until we receive the ATIS or ATC is telling us which runway and arrival routing to expect. After that, we confirm the final setup. Here we put the ILS to runway 05 in the primary flightplan and the RNAV circling approach to runway 23 in the secondary flightplan. So the briefing in the video is just a compressed summary of what we discussed already before. Regardless of the state of the briefing, we always confirm together all ATC clearances. This includes directs to certain waypoints, standard arrival routings, instrument approaches .....
i do a lot of flight sim i only wish i had done better at school, but nether less nothing like the the real thing? Love the videos love the channel 👌👍👍i use the fenix a320 in msf2020 fully programable in the FMC as close as it gets to the real thing
Great video once again! The quite visible optical glory phenomenon and plane shadow at around 5:30-6:00 was impressive. A casual observer might think you were flying in formation with an UAP (if they didn't know about the science behind it) 🙂.
another great approach and crm , just one question capt, might be silly 😅 , why turning off you FD after landing while taxiing i know we don’t need it any more but just curios to know , have a great time and always waiting your videos 👋
Love your videos Stefan - quick question if I may - probably been asked loads of times! Just after landing, there are two wheels - black and white markings, which rotate quickly. What is there purpose please?
@@davidredmayne7269 Ok. You see the automatic reset (trim to 0) of the trimmable horizontal stabilizer. The wheels are connected to the trimmable horizontal stabilizer. This happens when the airplane is 5 seconds on the ground and pitch is less than 2.5 degrees. The pitch law here reverts to ground mode.
I have a question I've been wondering for a while now: About the first item in the landing check list ECAM MEMO and the response "Landing, no blue". I understand that it referrs to the ECAM display, what does the callout "Landing, no blue" mean? What else could be there that would have to be taken care of in that phase of flight? And what do the subitems refer to that are seamingly always ignored? would those be the points the ECAM would show if missing? Also, If you some camera catches the ECAM displays it would be great if you could show them, too, if relevant.
Years ago, we had to say "all green" for the same thing. In general, the ECAM shows a checklist with items which change from blue to green when the items have been done. For example, if we would not extend the gear, it would be shown in blue. The same is true for the flaps. In this airplane, also the cabin ready message is integrated in the landing memo and would be shown in blue if the cabin would not be ready. The subitems in the checklist are not ignored. They are included in the ECAM landing memo. If the ECAM landing memo would not be available due to technical reasons then we would have to read the subitems and check them.
Most important is to "be yourself". Do not try to be somebody else. Know what are your personal advantages and disadvantages. Make sure that you know the history and the values of the airline you want to work for. Make sure that you can tell why you want to work for this airline and not for another one. Ask other people who did the same procedure before. They usually can give you great tips and even can tell if there are questions in regard to aviation knowledge. I wish you all the best for the interview!
Thanks for the good feedback! I fly since a very long time. My first aviation job was as a freelance cargo pilot on a Cessna F406 turboprop airplane. Then I was hired as a first officer on the MD83/MD87 before flying the Airbus A320 series.
Engine Anti Ice needs to be switched on in possible icing conditions. Means visible moisture and OAT is 10C or less on ground. Or TAT is 10C or less in flight. If SAT is below minus 40C, no anti ice required in cruise or climb but in descent.
Fun fact, 78GH is still a shorter callsign than 1NN (so far out of dozens of callsigns compared, I've only ever seen one other as long as 1NN, at seven syllables)
Thanks for your comment! The airlines have to make their own callsigns unless they use the airplane registration. Sometimes they use the commercial flight number and sometimes they come up with a certain number and letter combination. The general idea behind it is to avoid any confusion with other traffic.
At 17.48 you can see Trogir on the left, a beautifull old town with football ground on the begining and Čiovo island below the plane. Now there are two bridges who conect this island with a land , 15 years ago was only one,you can wait few hours to cross it. It was saturday and i was on the road from Čiovo to Trogir with few hundred cars and we moved with speed of injured snail , but every few minutes we can see a jet landing few hundred meters above us to Kaštela.
captain good afternoon, if it's not inconvenient, you can start putting the name of the take-off airport in your video, if it's not inconvenient, I flew on Microsoft flight simulator, so I'm inspired by your routes to the callsign, please, if it's not uncomfortable I know it's funny but I love doing it! Thanks for your attention.
Thanks for watching and your feedback! I may be able to put the departure alrport name in the description, close to the flight number and the aircraft registration.
I love flying in Split, the view is just awesome, especially when landing on RWY 23. I have uploaded on my channel a couple of videos landing in Split (and many other places) with the A320, would you mind review some of my landings? Anyway thanks Captain for your videos, for an aviation enthusiast like me they're like a breath of fresh air!
I watched one of your Split videos. Nicely done. The touchdown on runway 23 was just a little late. Your simulator picture quality is really good. Here is an older approach to runway 23. I filmed it with just one camera from the real cockpit: th-cam.com/video/XRDrwhrEPC4/w-d-xo.html
Nobody below us means that we do not have to reduce the descent rate to avoid a TCAS resolution advisory when approaching the target altitude. Sometimes there is another plane at 1000 feet or so below our cleared altitude or it is climbing to 1000 feet below our cleared altitude. This would be ok. But we would have to reduce the vertical speed early enough to reduce the closure rate.
Some talk more, others less. I always like to know what the other pilot is thinking and I always inform the other pilot about what I am thinking. Communication is very important. Better more communication and information than less communication and information.
You are completely wrong here. If it would be a private Cessna 172 on a very short runway, you may be right. But in commercial aviation, we do not plan a touchdown on the threshold. Also, we don’t want to „crash“ the airplane in the runway. In regard to distance, this was a pictureperfect flare. The landing took place at about 350 meters behind the threshold. This was even better than precalculated. Usually, we touchdown between 450 and 600 meters. If it is longer than 600 meters, the name „endless flare“ would be acceptable. And „bad“ would be the right definition for a touchdown after the end of the touchdown zone. Please keep in mind that you would touchdown at 300 meters behind the threshold, if you would not flare at all and continue along the glideslope with the target vertical speed until „impact“.
Little hard to tell, with the aiming point markers also moved further down the runway (as can be seen in the newer google earth view of Split airport), as it is kind of "hip" with European airports since several years. Resulting in even later touch downs... for some reason, the US still keep to the traditional system of placing the aiming point markers closer to the threshold. If you see Videos of landings from the 60s and 70s you will see, that it was not yet a standard to waste as much runway as it is done today (also see vintage aerial photos of airports, and see the locations of the tyre marks). They also flew "big" jets these days, not Cessnas. There is a nice video (passenger view) of a landing in Hamburg, I will post a link if I find it back.
@tropenband The position of the ICAO standard aiming point depends on the runway length. Up to 2400 meters length, the aiming point is at 300 meters and for runways longer than that, the aiming point is at 400 meters. But some airports may be different.
Here the runway is longer than 2400 meters and the aiming point at 300 meters. A reason may be that the airport wants everybody to do a short landing to avoid a backtrack.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos yes, that is correct, depending on the runway length. Until some years ago, all larger (european/international) airports used the standard runway markings as follows: threshold bars, fixed distance markers (1x), aiming point bars, fixed distance zone markers (4x). Today: threshold bars, fixed distance markers (2x), aiming point bars, fixed distance markers (3x)... with that being done, the aiming point was moved further down the runway, and with it, the majority of the touchdowns is also further down the runway. Can be seen very good on aerial photos of the same airport, before and after markings changed to the new system.
For someone who’s living 3 mi away from Split airport and sometimes is annoyed by the planes, it’s a beautiful sight from the skies.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your comment! I hope that you do not get too much airplane noise at your home. It looks like the area is very nice! Best wishes to Split!

This is really interesting! Thanks for your good feedback! Have a nice weekend!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Danke, dir auch!
Another great upload. RWY23 would be more challenging, but more fun. :)
I completely agree! I hope to do another flight soon with runway 23 in use. There is an older video of an approach to runway 23, produced with one camera, here on the channel. th-cam.com/video/XRDrwhrEPC4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mo5v_T8F7qE39B_G
I agree, it looks wonderful! I also have to add it to my travel list.
this is beautiful. i am shocked by how much you talk all the way.
Thanks for watching and your helpful feedback! Have a great day!
Another wonderful informative video, danke!
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! Have a nice day!
Beautiful approach, thanks a lot ! 🙂
Thanks for watching and your good feedback!
So professional,, as always. Question - what was the discussion about @ 20:35, regarding minutes, seconds.....?
Thanks for your support of the channel as a member, your good feedback and your question! We usually switch off already one engine on our way to the parking position. Here we wanted to make sure that there was a cool down time of not less than 3 minutes after high thrust application before we switched off engine 2.
Awesome video, thanks for the upload :)
Thanks for watching and your good feedback!
Thank you Stefan 🙂 Danke 🙂
Thanks for watching! Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen!

My homeland, beautiful approach 😀 I was wondering if there will ever be video where you fly to LDSP since i know that eurowings fly there 🙂
Thanks for watching and for sharing your comment! Best greetings to Croatia!
Nice video as always.😅
Thank you so much 😀!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Ah that all makes sense. Many thanks for the explanation! Keith
Great 👍💪👌
Thanks!
Great. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Ok got it thanks ☺
spliti beatiful airport, when will we see video in tirana LATI
It depends - as always - on my duty schedule. It may take some time. Please stay tuned!

i do a lot of flight sim i only wish i had done better at school, but nether less nothing like the the real thing? Love the videos love the channel 👌👍👍i use the fenix a320 in msf2020 fully programable in the FMC as close as it gets to the real thing
Thanks for watching and for sharing your very personal feedback!
Great video once again! The quite visible optical glory phenomenon and plane shadow at around 5:30-6:00 was impressive. A casual observer might think you were flying in formation with an UAP (if they didn't know about the science behind it) 🙂.
Thanks for your great feedback and for sharing your interesting observations! Have a great weekend!
I like watching aeroplanes
That's good! Welcome to my TH-cam channel!
another great approach and crm , just one question capt, might be silly 😅 , why turning off you FD after landing while taxiing i know we don’t need it any more but just curios to know , have a great time and always waiting your videos 👋
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! As you said, it is not needed any more but it does not hurt. Have a nice day!
Thanks to YT I discovered this channel. It's so relaxing. small ask, this approach was with autopilot? It looks like.
Thanks for watching and your question! I switched off the autopilot at 15:25. You can hear and see it in the video. Please have another look.
Love your videos Stefan - quick question if I may - probably been asked loads of times! Just after landing, there are two wheels - black and white markings, which rotate quickly. What is there purpose please?
Where exactly did you see the rotating wheels with the black and white markings?
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos ah ok. Just after you said “spoilers” then “decel”. The wheels were either side of the throttles.
Hey Stefan!
You know it's a good day when you upload a new video and it is once again an amazing one!
Greetings from Brussels!
Thank you very much for your kind words! Many greetings to Brussels!
If the ECAM landing memo would not be available due to technical reasons then we would have to read the subitems and check them.
hey captain, I have my airline group activity and interview soon any tips that I should keep in mind before appearing for it?
Most important is to "be yourself". Do not try to be somebody else. Know what are your personal advantages and disadvantages. Make sure that you know the history and the values of the airline you want to work for. Make sure that you can tell why you want to work for this airline and not for another one. Ask other people who did the same procedure before. They usually can give you great tips and even can tell if there are questions in regard to aviation knowledge. I wish you all the best for the interview!
Scenery alone is worth the price of the ticket...
Thanks for the nice feedback!
Hello Captain, when did you start your flying carreer & how long have you been flying for? Great Video!
Thanks for the good feedback! I fly since a very long time. My first aviation job was as a freelance cargo pilot on a Cessna F406 turboprop airplane. Then I was hired as a first officer on the MD83/MD87 before flying the Airbus A320 series.
wow, that sounds great, thank you for your answer and have a great weekend! @@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@@KurtSteenebgrugge-nm3dh Thank you! The same to you!
Hi, I’m just wondering, at what temperature do you guys switch on the Anti Ice? And what indications are you using for reference? (TAT, SAT, ISA)
Engine Anti Ice needs to be switched on in possible icing conditions. Means visible moisture and OAT is 10C or less on ground. Or TAT is 10C or less in flight. If SAT is below minus 40C, no anti ice required in cruise or climb but in descent.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thank you!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideosIndeed. If you fly south from spruce creek towards merritt island, you might hear 1NN in the traffic pattern :)
Super guat
Danke fürs Anschauen!
Thank you so much for pointing out the interesting information about the beautiful landmarks! Have a geat day!
What is the page you check the landing time?
It is coming from the ATSU/AOC menu in the MCDU.
captain good afternoon, if it's not inconvenient, you can start putting the name of the take-off airport in your video, if it's not inconvenient, I flew on Microsoft flight simulator, so I'm inspired by your routes to the callsign, please, if it's not uncomfortable I know it's funny but I love doing it! Thanks for your attention.
Thanks for watching and your feedback! I may be able to put the departure alrport name in the description, close to the flight number and the aircraft registration.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Many thanks Captain ❤️

Yes, this is all real. No simulator. Thanks for watching.
😅'nobody 😊below us,' I would hope so, otherwise they be smoothed or scrunched or both
Nobody below us means that we do not have to reduce the descent rate to avoid a TCAS resolution advisory when approaching the target altitude. Sometimes there is another plane at 1000 feet or so below our cleared altitude or it is climbing to 1000 feet below our cleared altitude. This would be ok. But we would have to reduce the vertical speed early enough to reduce the closure rate.
You can see the Earth is flat
From this altitude it looks flat. You need to climb very high to see that it is not flat!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos you can see the horizon arc even from this altitude
Pilot is talking 2 much…
Some talk more, others less. I always like to know what the other pilot is thinking and I always inform the other pilot about what I am thinking. Communication is very important. Better more communication and information than less communication and information.
Endless flare before touchdown. Bad.
