Joined the Army National Guard when I was 38. Just turned 50 and still out PT soldiers more than half my age. Joining was one of the best decisions of my life. My only regret is that I didn't join earlier.
@@wudly9195 No prior service. I just felt the call of duty--like it was something I had to do. Otherwise, I knew I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't at least try.
@@chriskirkendale7032 dude you’re still a baby, I’d do it. I went into the marines right after high school. I got out at 23 and re-enlisted into the guard at 25. I’m 29 now and I’m honestly thinking about going back in, the military is easy. Everything you need is provided for you. As I look back on it, I wish I could’ve done it differently. I would’ve gotten my degree while I was in and use my gi bill for my masters or to help pay for law school. 23 is nothing.
Joined the Army at 33 with E4 rank ...ranked up to E5 1yr 10months...dealt with everything they discussed. The key is to be open minded, in shape, willing to be a team leader by example, study smart not hard, get dirty, say yes to doing all crazy details, get to know your teenage battle buddies, pray and keep your faith, Never quit... NEVER....QUIT...and Always...ALWAYS BE SQRD AWAY. Be on time, in uniform, be a PT Stud or at least willing to run with ur 18 yr old battle buddies even when ur 30 yr old bones say hell naw....you say HELL YEAH HOOYAH! ---40 Rounds---
USMC Future Leader future pulley i pray ! I have all the markings makings and abilities for it and Intelligence ! Just need the age waiver while I'm young and ready ! Thank you for giving me hope ! Draft age is 35 for all Branch's accept Marins ! It's 34 ! And the Air Force ? Wow ! That's the hardest too get into unless your perfect for them ! I was informed they don't hand out age waivers at all ! This gives me confidence beyond imagine ! I'm gonna take my young self ma'am down too that place soon and ask to become one asap ! I've got a set up with a office for getting in contact ! So i pray hope wish it goes well this month !
@@Whatisgoingon-od9yb Well, I'm 29 now. Spent 3 months at sea so far with no port visits, and now I'm back in Japan. Boot camp was fun and went by quick. School was the same. After about 2 months at sea with no "down time" I was honestly questioning my decision. You have to allow yourself to laugh at the stupid situations the military puts you through and work with 18-20 year olds.
I’m 30 and enlisting into the army. It inspires me to read all these comments and to know there are other people in my same position, having a professional career and putting it on hold to join the military. Fuels my fire to continue forward and truly excited to get this going.
@@WowzersYep-qq2uo basic was easy, I ran circles around these kids. It was definitely a blast. As for the actual army, holy shot what a disappointment. The leadership at my current unit is terrible and mostly doesn’t give a fuck about its soldiers. All you can count on is the guy next to you because mostly anything at top of battalion level and upwards could give two shits about you
Joined the Army Reserves at 36 and Jocko is right on the money here. I’m a high school teacher so I get along well with these kids who developed into soldiers alongside me. They call me “Teach”, “Pops”, or “Old Man” and have shown nothing but respect for me. Some say I inspire them to do better because they can’t let an old guy beat them at anything and it makes them push harder. Many of the things in BCT and AIT didn’t make sense to us but I would tell the guys to trust the process and be patient and positive. Be better than yesterday. I think it helped them and it helped me knowing that I was helping them.
I joined the Army at age 27 in 2001 and made SGT by 2004. I just hit my 20th year in the army and I’m about to turn 48. I have kept touch with friends from high school who seem way older than me now. The army has kept me young and in shape!
Started USMC OCS at almost 29. Jocko hit the nail on the head, you do a lot of things that you think are stupid or a waste of time. You have to stay humble and work with the younger guys/girls. I'm 31 and loving it. My body hurts more than theirs, but if you are smart about fitness, you still keep up.
Fuck I’m 29 already and I guess there’s a thing called age waivers in the marines! Fuck it needs to be marked off my bucket list. Age waivers up too 34 from 29!
This is completely true. I joined the Army at 34 years old and it can be frustrating. I joined as an E-3 (because I had 90 college credit hours but wasn't quite done with my Bachelor's Degree) and an Officer Candidate. Everyone at Basic over 30 was highly annoyed with the, 'kids,' and some of the dumb stuff you had to do. However, it was nice to have the maturity and ability to not freak out about things that younger people would get upset about. (Lots and lots of drama in the female barracks) Me and one other guy in Basic were the oldest recruits out of 200 people and now that I'm in the TN National Guard OCS, I am the oldest in my class. Unfortunately PT is more troubling for me than the others, older bones/joints, takes longer to get in shape, etc. but everything else is about the same since this group is more mature, educated, etc. I say go for it if you want to serve! I joined as a Wife and Mom of an 11 year old daughter and while its extremely challenging, its equally rewarding.
Thanks for the motivation!!! Going in at 38. Bachelor's degree, some MEd credits. Slim build but not physically fit, started a basic routine to build up to it!!! Ex is retired Navy, offered to help with conditioning.
We’re you deployed? I am 32 and I am considering joining, no kids, and I do have a good job I just feel kind of lost and I’ve always wanted to serve and now I’m at a point in my life where I feel like it’s now or never so I am working on my fitness and if I get to my fitness goal I’m going to join the Navy because I saw the age limit for active duty is 39
I’m 32, even though I have a good job, and my own place, I feel lost, and I always wanted to serve, working on my fitness as we speak. I will have to join the Navy.
Hey guys thanks for the support! I am sitting in limbo right now 😔 my recruiter told me I was pushed back til May on February 26th for no specific reason. Then she recently reached out and said that I may be delayed even further due to Covid. My recruiter tells me to get used to hearing "Hurry up and wait". A little depressing but with all that's going on rn I guess I dodged a bullet with the whole 14day isolation.
I’m taking the oath next month, 30 years old, federal law enforcement for 4 years, BS/MS- I plan on embracing the suck and going in open and willing to learn! Thanks for the advice!
Tony Franchise CA Texas Army NG, 11B1P...all I know is is that I wanted to do always do it and I don’t want to live the rest of my life with regret- I couldn’t look myself in the mirror...challenge yourself, live uncomfortable, that’s how you grow
There was a 36 year old guy in my platoon in basic, and latter this gentlemen was also in my AIT, but this dude was in shape! The whole cycle, he was a completely average soldier, but squared away. Drill Sergeants probably didn't even notice him. Did average on PT tests, marksmanship, soldiering and everything else. End of cycle, out of nowhere this guy maxes the PT test, shoots expert on marksmanship quals and won 'soldier of the cycle.' Obviously this guy was sandbagging the whole time, didn't want to stand out, but thoroughly planned for his time at Basic. I never even had a thought to plan ahead like that as a 19 year old.
We had a guy originally in the Columbian Army in our OSUT class at 40 years old, he was legit totally squared away and definitely stayed a gray man through most of it, though he did trade some skills/insight with the DS's and a lot of the young bucks looked to him for guidance, we called him Pops.
Haha... that was exactly my plan when i was trying to get in the coast guard at 39. I went to the range with a friend of mine who was a retires SEAL and ran with him and lifted heavy i was gonna sandbag to stay under the radar abd then just crudh it! Lmao. But alas, through additional medical testing done for older recruites at MEPS, it found that I actually have congenital heart defects. Major disappointment.
41 yrs and I am joining the active duties, have had to go through a bunch screening and everything came out fine , the only thing left now is my age waiver getting approved and I ain’t giving up on this.
I'm so glad I found this.. I'm 28 with a wife and son. I have a professional career but I hate it and I've always wanted to be in the service but got held up. I really want to do this more now than I did yesterday.
i feel so good reading the comments on this video. it feels good to know that i was not the only 30 year old who joined Military. I had a well paying job. I did it to serve my country and to face the basic training. I always wanted to do it and i am glad i did it. I would do it all over again if i get a chance. i am 35 now.
🔥🔥🔥🔥Yessir! I just turned 30 on august 15th, and am meeting with my local recruiter 2 days from Now on monday@1200….I’ve had a great career in car sales since I was 24, but I’ve always felt this deeper calling to serve…thank You and everyone else in this comment section for the inspiration🙏🙏🙏
Joined when I was 18, did 3 years. I got married for 9-10 years, gained 90 pounds. Got divorced, lost 100 pounds and joining again @ 32. I didn't know how good I had it in the military the first time around, but this time it's going to be different.
You reserve or active on your re-enlistment. Lol I have a similar situation I did 4 years in Marine Corp, been out for 9 years but really want to give Army Spec Ops a go.
Im glad Jocko talked about this. Im turning 30 this year and plan on joining. Im at yhe research stage qnd its comforting to know other people have gone through what i want to go through
That's good to hear because I'm 27 and I've had a lot of success in a lot of things in life but somehow I always end up kind of back at the bottom even though the pay isn't always at the bottom like it used to be. But I feel like I'm stuck and going nowhere a lot of times and I love traveling and grew up traveling and was able to do it whenever I was in my late teens and early twenties but now I'm stuck in a place and all I want to do is see the world and get some structure and I feel like the military has the best route sometimes. Plus I come from a military family with my dad being a gunny in the Marines and my stepdad being a major in the army. I've seen the best and the worst sides of the military
@@miichiii. it isnt hard, its most high school stuff. took it at 34 years old and i got scores that i was able to choose any job i wanted n the Army (as long as they were available ). chose MOS 68F by the way. my advice would be do not wait another day, get up and go take the asvab and see how you do, you can always re-take it. best of luck
I'm a big fan of comics and science-fiction and when I heard President Trump's speech about creating a ''Space Force'',for several reasons I found it to be hilarious. One, it sounded like the name of a comic book or a sitcom or something out of a movie or video game(and I guess the U.S. Colonial Marines from James Cameron's Aliens, the Starship Troopers from the book and movie of the same name and the characters from the Halo video games, are all essentially a ''Space Force'' as are the Nova Corps from Marvel Comics and the Green Lantern Corps from DC Comics). Two, who would pay for Space Force? And three, it will never happen because as Lawrence O'Donnell commented on Bill Maher's show ''Real Time'' on HBO, it will never happen because it isn't up to The President. It's actually up to congress because they have to vote on it. And anyway, The United States Air Force ALREADY has the Air Force Space Command-admittedly, not quite a ''Space Force'', though.
I'm 31 and leave for Air Force BMT on Dec. 6th. I'm married with two kids under 5 years old. Looking forward to this new adventure and for the benefits for myself and my family. Never too old to make change.
Respect. I joined at 29 now I'm 31. Your kids will be proud and they will wanna emulate you. I've seen a 36 year old uncle at MEPS who wants to be a cyber security specialist in the Army
@brianabbott5771 I'm also 31, married, and have 3 children (oldest 12, youngest 5). My family NEEDS this change, however, I'm also currently enrolled in BSN nursing school. How have you and your spouse been dealing with the commitment of BMT and first part of tech school? That's literally the ONLY thing holding me back from signing. I'd love to hear your input!
@@zachdempsey5796 BMT flew by. It was hard being away from them, but they keep you so busy there that it kind of takes your mind off of them. My wife sent me a few letters while I was there, and i wrote some back. That helped. She was also very supportive of me joining, and also had her mom available to help while I was gone. I don't know if it would have been as easy without that additional help. I am still in tech school, as my job has one of the longest tech schools. I graduated BMT Jan. 23, so it had definitely been a long tech school. Still have about 6months left. It had been a good decision for me and my family so far. The medical insurance has been a godsend as well. Once I get operational around November of this year, I will be able to see how a normal life in the military will be. As for advice, I would say make sure you have a good support system from your spouse and ensure that you both know what changes will come, and even for the changes that you can't anticipate, be willing to work through them together. It helped that my wife and I had been married for 7 years before I joined. That support for each other had already been established. If you decide to join, I would love a follow-up from you to hear how things are going. Wish you the best.
I joined the army when I was 30 in 2003 (MOS 11B1P). Basic training, AIT, and Airborne school (too easy). I loved the physical aspect of BT and AIT (PT, ruck marches, MOUT, shooting guns, being outdors, etc.), but what I hated, was being on lock down and standing around in formation, waiting for the drill sergeants (hurry up and wait). I started in a LEG infantry unit; after that, I went to a RSTA unit; and, I ended my time with the army, in a LRS unit. I did a few deployments in Iraq and went to a few schools. I decided to get out in 2012; because, I wanted to do the civilian thing again, due to the stupid shit and bad leadership. All said and done, though, I would do it all over again. And, I would highly recommend it for most people, despite the bad that goes along with it, regardless of your age. You get paid training with whatever MOS/career you choose (most of the military members aren't bullet magnets), career experience, leadership experience, travel opportunities, a brotherhood like no other, etc. Good times!
I lost 210lbs and joined the army at 31. Most of my battle buddies called me pop and poked fun at me during the mornings but by the end of the day they were lining up at my bunk to ask for advice. I wasn't as strong or as fast at the top guys but was able to bring my own to training. The point is that we worked as a team and got through together
@Keenan Ferrer Nice!!! Next step for me is the physical. Took the ASVAB and was satisfied with the score. Going after it! Thank you for that. Good luck at bootcamp and rock that!!! 😀
I am 31 years old, joining the Army, active duty. I am prior service Navy got out in 2012. I’m doing this for myself, my country and my wife and three children. I’m ready to go back to basic and embrace the suck. I’m no better than anyone else there.
I'm 32 and still thinking about making a late run. Cut off age is 35 for the Army and 39 for the Air Force. It's something I've always wanted to do. I wished I could go back to age 18 and do it then but I can't do that. I think I'm just going to join now and make the best of what I got left. Good input Jocko. I needed to hear this.
I’m 32 and joined too. Loadmaster. Coming in at E-3. Age is just something that makes us doubt doing it or not. Go for it man! I’m sure the young kids might be annoying or even judge you but who cares. Once you’re out they’re still kids and you’re still older but you at least finished. 💪🏼
Being 28 to 30 and being called "old" by people who are not even 10 years younger, not even close to being young enough to be your kids... What's wrong with them?
i love this video. when i join at 25. this lady we had in the navy she join at 40 and she ranked up quick as shit. just like Jocko said if you squared away you can rank off fast especially when your 40 you want to get up there quick. she came in as E-3 made E-4 first try then she got cap to E-5 people were like WTF lmao.
i guess im asking randomly but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot the password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Armando Skylar i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
35 years old. Shipping out to Army basic at Ft benning in 3 and half weeks!! July 18th! Osut 11B. I'll be E-4 rank due to my college degree. Got duty station of choice as well which was really nice along with a few bonuses and quick ship bonus (For the ones that don't know) Wish me luck guys! 🙏 so nervous...
Best of luck!! How is it going for you?? I am 34 and actively pursuing the USAF (either as an officer or enlisted depending on job). I’m nervous and have been trying to train like crazy.
I joined at 30 with college education and professional experience. I became a jet mechanic and did my 6 years and now transition to Security Forces and hopefully to Pararescue. All the kids looked up to me like a big brother and they still do. I have been able to be a mentor to these young men for real life stuff outside of military.
Stephen putting in the work daily with swims, running, pull ups, sit ups and push ups - I meet the SOWT standards but shooting for PJ so we'll see! thanks:)
I asked my cousin who joined at 28 if he wished he would have joined right out of high school. His answer: Fuck no! I wouldn’t of had a hope in hell of making it back then. When I was 18 I had absolutely zero self esteem or confidence. A drill sergeant screaming in my face would have completely broken me mentally.... and I smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day and drank vodka like water.
Just turned 28 a couple days ago and decided that I'm tired of what civilian life has to offer so planning on enlisting as 11X in the Army by the end of the year
I'm almost twenty-eight and I let others talk me out of it my whole life, civilian contractor with the military about six years now so I have plenty of people now that are trying to talk me into it. other than that I feel like I've done nothing and I don't want to run out of time. Plus you are fine as hell.
When I joined the Marines I was 20 turned 21 in Bootcamp. I was making 25 and hour in 04 in union as steelworker. Reading the Philly Metro paper at lunch seeing insurgency picking up. I thought war was over. Then was like this is the new world forever, I signed up hot 119 GT score on ASVAP and wanted combat ASAP so Marines are 1st to fight so thats what I went with. I did not know all the SOCOM stuff. Turned 21 in bootcamp. Had a carear and my experiences in Frankford HS where our famous students are Drug Kingpins who firebombed houses.. Kaboni Savage. The stuff I was into was another reason to go. I had so much more street smarts. I hunted upstate and stayed in ocean in summer. I was all city swimmer which saved me a few times surfing as a kid. So I had alot of experience from every social background good and bad. I was NJPed in SOI for Tiajauna so lost Recon Indoc. Tiajauna was just a fun place. So in fleet I was good, well liked and Trusted. I hated toxic leadership. I was training for MARSOC but my NJP barred me. I did not want normal infantry anymore. We had majors writing thier own bronze stars with Vs without being in the TIC. So I left for Philly Fire Dept. I do wish I joined Army SF reserves though. I am 36 now and feel unfafilled with my military career. Toxic leaders pushed me out, the Corps has modernized better and allowing to get to higher level. I think USMC infantry should all be SOC capable Tier 3 unit. I am fighting alot of fire with alot of Vets in Busiest station in Philly with 1st in work, maybe the country also. Good money alot of time to train, travel and shoot. I have had my problems with getting back into civilian life. The world stops for nobody, losing alot of friends to PTSD and so on. I am blessed and continue to push. Crush life everyday.
I had my 42nd birthday in basic 2008. I however was a PT miss 300 lol. One of the best moments was running up on an 18 year old and saying" don't let grandma catch you" hahahaha One of the best times of my life. Hooah
welcome to modern life. I think pretty much everyone born in the 90's feels that way, because current society is just shit I'm now 30 and actually want to rejoin the military after being out for 8 years
If you think everything the United States does overseas is right and good and just then you should enlist and go support a cause that you believe in, personally I don't, the military and the government have proven over the years that they cannot be trusted.
When I joined the US Army at 31 the an easy transition became was more mature than majority of people who are 25 years of age or younger. Most of the time younger people came to me for life advice. But got a great job as a combat medic I. Which now going to be a RN(registered nurse) and have a lovely wife who is also a combat medic as well that I meet while in the army
As always, Jocko dropping wisdom. Joined the Army at 20 and separated my first year. Now at 32 I'm considering joining the Air Force, mostly to make a career change and to do something bigger with my life than be a Master Automotive Technician. Thank you, Jocko. Roll hard.
Thank gentlemen for the motivation I’m currently 28 and working on joining the military and I have been feeling the same way and I think it’s a society thing where every thing in done by young people and the adults have to sit in time out like we’ve done something wrong and what really made this worth here no offense to echo,is the fact that I got an navy seals prospective on this situation.
28. I want to join the Air Force after I finish my Bachelor’s degree. I’ve been thinking about to for too long to not at least give it a go. I don’t want any regrets when I’m older.
I graduated NAVY Dive School at 38. I agree with Jocko on the stupidity aspect. Going through BMT, the level of immaturity of those around you can be a challenge. I really feel they should take people based on ability, rather than generalizations, since there are so few younger people mentally or physically capable these days. Especially under Biden's military. Good luck filling those quotas.
I'm a poor 26 year old. Mind has been shifting towards the military more and more now. Thinking about the airforce. Still not sure though. Learning how to program right now, and while the pay off with that is potentially huge, there were plenty of times in the past where I went out to get a job. I put in 300 applications in the first year before I gave up and found a basic retail job, after I had gotten my bachelors in History. So now I'm going back to school hoping to change all that. Getting an associates/certificate in programming, but may need a bachelors for a specialized degree... and the only way I can pay for that and not be entrenched in debt is by joining an ROTC program.
This came up in my feed today. I had my 32nd birthday during initial officer training. I'd graduated university nearly a decade earlier, done post-grad, qualified as a professional, had a career then joined up. It was an interesting experience doing this with the kids who could be as young as 18. Physically some things were easier for me (typically endurance) and others harder (more impact stuff as I had another decade's worth of sports injuries and aging). Given my background the mental exercises were not a problem for me. However, exactly as you said, at that age you have to go in with the right attitude. I talked to friends who were already in service and went through that training with the view of this is a game that has to be played, some things will look dumb, but they are part of the game, play the game, get through and out the other side where the real service and the grownups are. Worked out pretty well and I made O5 in 10 years.
I had a high school buddy finish his masters in Nuclear physics. He got drafted before Hanford called him in to work. Went in as a captain and out as major. Hanford was still waiting for him. Oh and his Army job? Battery CO in Viet Nam. His father worked as an engineer for Combustion Engineering. I can tell you 20 years of .mil is worth it. 20 active is great. 20 years reserve is OK, but the check does not hit the bank until you turn 60.
@@timfisher1588 I’ve had sometime to think about it since making the comment..and doing some research.. Under this current administration, mandates for this so-called “vaccine”, & rotting culture they’re creating inside our armed forces; don’t chance it. I strongly recommend/advise not to.
we had a guy at bootcamp in 2008 who was 34 joining the military for the first time. guy did good, quiet, kept his nose to the grindstone. pt looked a little hard for him but then again we were all sweatin
Ringo SP I enlisted in army on active duty at age 34 and had my 35th birthday in basic. I'm glad I did join the military but at the same time I wish I had gone about it a different way. I'd recommend anyone who's older to either enlist in the air force (among other things, the air force is said to be more mature than the army plus a lot of the young punks you'll see in the army you wouldn't deal with in the air force to the same degree), or come in as an officer instead of enlisting, or try to make sure you get a really good job that is transferable to civilian (you may be in fantastic shape but enlisting in a mos like infantry at your age and then having to mow lawns is way underneath you at your age). Also don't wait way too late. By the time my recruiter was done with me, even though I had a high ASVAB score, there were only a very small number of mos choices I could make and I had to end up settling for a MOS that isn't so good.
Very very helpful man I'm 29 and and joining Army and going to 4 Ranger. I have a good job but not my dream job. I have always wanted to serve and I wish I hadn't waited so long but I am very mature now and I know without a doubt what this journey will entail. I know what to expect. And beside all the teenager shit I know I will sit right in with that Ranger mentality.
I'm thinking about joining air force at 30. Have a college degree but not really satisfied with it and i have this feeling if I don't try I'll regret it when I'm older. It would be awesome to get into cybersecurity or that kind of thing
That stuff is in high demand, both in and out of the military. Would probably be a solid career move in both the short and long term! Also, nice profile pic. SMAC is awesome.
33, married, mortgage, car note, student loans and credit card debt. Haven't been in the Army since '08. After working office jobs with quasi IT work, it became too mundane for me. I can't go back in due to double hernia surgery, so I went and got a TWIC card two years ago. Now, just started to work as a civilian sailor a month ago and I have a sense of purpose again.
+Greg Sabella I joined the Marine Corps at 25 or 26. best thing I did. good training for war as well as for the work force. I got out and I'm currently in the process to get back into the Marine Corps (reserves this time around). just go get some
A lot of older guys joining were going in the guard/reserves. It's a pretty good side gig and honestly, a deployment makes for a great distraction from the normal life.
I'm 31 and will be joining soon. I'm muscular but I suck at running. I've been training since Jan working on my running. It's about to be June and my running has gotten so much better
I’m done with civilian life it’s driving me insane it’s so boring. I need me some ‘proper’ action. Shoot some guns, blow up some things and run around a field or something. I’m 38 this year. So I hope my body can handle the intensity of the training
32 and in the process of joining the marines. I say fuck it, i always wanted to do it. Im going for it. You only have 1 life to live. Im leaving no stone unturned.
I wish I had joined when I was in my early 20s at least. I’m old now, 34, and I feel like a grandpa, my back hurts, my knees hurt, i get tired quicker, my body is not young as before. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 but I still want to join. That’s my only issue I’m scared about.
Joined at 27. I'm 35 now and still in. I feel old as well and the young guys keep coming every few months. The longer you wait, the older you'll get! Just bite the bullet and go for it before it's REALLY too late.
I'm 35. Just lost my business through covid. But I've really been into fitness for the last 7 years and I'm really considering joining the services in the UK. I was wondering if I was too old, this has inspired me. Although I have colitis and take immune suppressants. Whether that will effect me I don't know
Thank you for this. It’s crazy how this has been on my mind the last few days and then this pops up on my phone. I’m not 30 yet, but I’ll be 26 in December. And you can help but think, is it too late for me? Thanks so much.
this was way more uplifting than I expected.. I'm in my 30's and just now getting my GED and then trying to enlist. I've got no issue doing what my CO/ DI tells me to. I can keep my opinions to myself and do what's expected of me. maybe I do got a shot.. 🤔 maybe..
Working on finishing the math portion of GED. I'm 30 now. Dropped out of high school at 18. It is SOOO different but I'm going to do it because I've always wanted to be Army strong but I let myself get in the way. Not any more. Let's goooooo!!!
I am 32. Excellent physical condition. Just got 75 AFQT eligible for all Army jobs interested in either 18D special forces combat medic or AirForce PJ (pararescue)
Did Basic when I was 20, released honorably before making battalion. Biggest mistake of my life. Am 32 now and heavily contemplating rejoining Infantry....
I'm 47. And a veteran. I can relate with what you are saying on the civilian sector as a truck driver. I got these 20-something kids managing me. They've been the dispatcher or quote-unquote driver manager and I'm the driver. They had no leadership training whatsoever. sometimes it seems like they throw s*** on the wall and see what sticks. I just like being around a bunch of butter bars.
I love hearing this I’m 26 been sucking at civilian life I served when I was 16-19 🇨🇦 but after a whole decade of giving a normal life a chance it’s like it’s cool but I can do so much better in the military again ❤
I have a good career, my own place, very good work conditions, but I feel lost, empty and not satisfied. I have always wanted a military career, and now I’m enlisting! 34 years old
I joined at 29 too. The maturity thing definitely helps. I kept getting thrown in leadership positions because I was the most trustworthy guy in a sea of 18 year olds. I had all the partying out of my system. Made E-4 and E-5 first time up, meritoriously advanced to E-6 at six years and made Chief at nine years. I didn’t stop feeling old until I made Chief. I’m wrapping up a successful Chief tour this year. I’ll hit 14 years and I’m receiving my commission in November. Since I’ll be an officer, I’ll probably serve 30 years.
I'm planning to join army when I'm 25 I'm currently 22 years old going on 23 (I need to practice driving for 3 years before I go) anyways the maturity thing is true if I were to join at 25 I'm grateful for the opportunities the military has I've been a janitor since 19 worked at a toilet paper factory at 18 for one year and I'm telling you it's tough out there for just a hs graduate the only careers you can go for if you don't go to college is trades and trust me their hard on the body I like janitorial and I prefer it but honestly going straight to work after high school besides college is smarter rather then being young and stupid and saying omg I wanna do finance do 4 years and youve waited 4 years to realize you didn't like the job plus you're in debt I probably will be going to Parsons in my late 20's to pursue my passion I always say as long as your still in your 20's it's ok to join at a later age 30's is debatable because to me that's a little too late.but it's ok to have some life experience before you figure out what you wanna do with the rest of your life.
Just had this conversation with my woman so I googled if requirements are different etc and this video popped up. I'm 29, wanted to go straight outta high-school but plans changed. I'm talking to a recruiter in a few months to see what I have to offer and hopefully I can still serve my fucking country. Thanks.
Joined the Army National Guard when I was 38. Just turned 50 and still out PT soldiers more than half my age. Joining was one of the best decisions of my life. My only regret is that I didn't join earlier.
Thanks, sir.
This is really motivating me to joining some force.

Why? Was it intimidating at first? Few things holding me back from doing it I’m 23
Dude you just inspired me . But did you have prior service or something??

27 considering army too. Don't want to make the wrong first move and be stuck in a bad contract

How was it for your child? That is one of the things that pumped my breaks. But my window is now down to 19 months before I'm too old
I’m 34 thank you for your comment

The whole cycle, he was a completely average soldier, but squared away. Drill Sergeants probably didn't even notice him. Did average on PT tests, marksmanship, soldiering and everything else.
End of cycle, out of nowhere this guy maxes the PT test, shoots expert on marksmanship quals and won 'soldier of the cycle.'
Obviously this guy was sandbagging the whole time, didn't want to stand out, but thoroughly planned for his time at Basic. I never even had a thought to plan ahead like that as a 19 year old.
forrestang man this story sounds strangely familiar. By chance, it wasn’t Ft Knox in spring 2006 was it?

That's good to hear because I'm 27 and I've had a lot of success in a lot of things in life but somehow I always end up kind of back at the bottom even though the pay isn't always at the bottom like it used to be. I'm 49... joining Space Force...when it's created.
Lol
Can I do navy seal training then quit?

Good times!

Talked to recruiters at 17 and they didn't stop hitting me up flr years. Finding myself lost at 27 and reconsidering it all
Same here brother
Turned 26 and same page here brother, finally decided to talk to my recruiter a month ago. Currently in the enlistment process
@@EggYolkx goodshit man. Best of luck on your future endeavors
I joined the army when I was 35 and I’m a kid at heart and fit right in with them except the late night drinking shit yea all good
This sounds like me. 31 rn an really considering it now.. being stable coming out an being able to pursue aspirations is what I’m after✊🏾
As someone who joined at 27, you’re spot on.
I had my 42nd birthday in basic 2008. I however was a PT miss 300 lol. One of the best moments was running up on an 18 year old and saying" don't let grandma catch you" hahahaha One of the best times of my life. Hooah
Did you go to Fort Leonardwood by chance?
I'm 42 and enroling in the Navy Reserves tonight. Thank you!
I always felt nervous about joining the military because I'm older. I'm 29 now and really haven't done anything major in my life.
Do it. youll find a sense of purpose as long as you can look past the foolery
Do it man. One of the best things you can do
welcome to modern life. I think pretty much everyone born in the 90's feels that way, because current society is just shit
I'm now 30 and actually want to rejoin the military after being out for 8 years
Thx.
“Hey, there’s a much more efficient way to do this!” I’ve been plagued by this since I was 13 years old and I’m still that way at age 56 🤣
Im 31 and have an appointment with a National Guard recruiter tomorrow. This video gave me the push and help I needed.
28. I want to join the Air Force after I finish my Bachelor’s degree. I’ve been thinking about to for too long to not at least give it a go. I don’t want any regrets when I’m older.
@@amprosser1 Do it! I was accepted and I ship out for Ft Benning April 18th. Work out, stay healthy and motivated. Be aggressive and get after it!
Come and get some old man
Just finished the asvab and my physical. This help alot not gonna lie was kinda nervous but this helps alot
What made you decide on Navy dive school? What are you doing now?
I’m a few months outta AIT I joined when I was 30. He is 100% right it is definitely a maturity level
So u made lt colonel after 10 years by age 42? Were u in the guard or active duty? What state? Pls lemme know I'm 32 and wanna join too
Also what branch
@@hannibalthe1st565 probably doesn't help you as I'm in a specialist role in the British military
I just enlisted at 35. The worst part is social isolation because these kids consider you the "old guy".
what branch
I'm 34 1/2 my job will let me enlist and serve 1 full tour without giving up seniority
27. Considering the Air force. Glad to know theres still plenty of time.
I’m 33 & reconsidering this as an option..
This was encouraging to hear that it does happen more often than I thought.
32 here. Thinking really hard about it. Im just more concerned about having to get vaccinated. I might just have to get over it
@@timfisher1588 I’ve had sometime to think about it since making the comment..and doing some research.. Under this current administration, mandates for this so-called “vaccine”, & rotting culture they’re creating inside our armed forces; don’t chance it. I strongly recommend/advise not to.
I'm 32 years old i run 6 to 10 miles every other day and hit the weight room twice a week. Hopefully I'm fit to join the army
Did you end up joining? Respect to you!
@@mattm3656 sworn in last month tomorrow I ship out
Im 30 and i wanna join, not for Biden but for America 🇺🇸. Our people are still warriors.
we had a guy at bootcamp in 2008 who was 34 joining the military for the first time. guy did good, quiet, kept his nose to the grindstone. pt looked a little hard for him but then again we were all sweatin
I’m 30 getting my nursing degree this month , enlisting by end of year
Pleasee go be a Navy nurse they need more male nurses
I just turn 34 now I know I can still join , one thing I regret Is not joining back in 2006 when I was 22 but now I know there is chance

I enlisted in army on active duty at age 34 and had my 35th birthday in basic.
How’d it go??
I'm thinking about joining air force at 30. Have a college degree but not really satisfied with it and i have this feeling if I don't try I'll regret it when I'm older. It would be awesome to get into cybersecurity or that kind of thing
That stuff is in high demand, both in and out of the military. Would probably be a solid career move in both the short and long term! Also, nice profile pic. SMAC is awesome.
I’m joining the military in part because of jacko. Incredible person probably due in part to his mindset.
How far are you sailing or do you work on the docks?
This is the most informative video I have ever watched
23 years old and in the USMC pipeline. Standing by to get some.
Good shit. I'm 25 and considering enlisting. Appreciate your service.

+Greg Sabella I joined the Marine Corps at 25 or 26. best thing I did. good training for war as well as for the work force. I got out and I'm currently in the process to get back into the Marine Corps (reserves this time around). just go get some
I joined the Army at 19 years old in 2009. For some damn reason Im wanting to go back at 31.
"the stupid stuff" everyone who's been in knows, but it it's hard to explain and it usually happens way more often than the "cool stuff" haha
Got me all motivaded bro thanks
I wish I had joined when I was in my early 20s at least. I’m old now, 34, and I feel like a grandpa, my back hurts, my knees hurt, i get tired quicker, my body is not young as before. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 but I still want to join. That’s my only issue I’m scared about.
Joined at 27. I'm 35 now and still in. I feel old as well and the young guys keep coming every few months. The longer you wait, the older you'll get! Just bite the bullet and go for it before it's REALLY too late.
You already know. You're going to do awesome
I joined at 29, 11b, as long as you are in good shape and dont take ANYTHING personal, it'll be the easiest job you ever had
Let's goooooo!!!
good video jocko and good discussion im currently in my early 30s currently studying for the asvab
28 right now and I've bee pondering joining for while

Joining @ 35yo. Standing by... to get some.
Ben Walston hell yea.
Which branch?
34 years old
29 and joining the Usmc and will spend my 30th birthday in boot haha 😂 can’t wait
Let me know how it went I’m currently in the navy at 25 years old and when my contract is up thinking about going usmc
I'm 34 joining in the best shape of my life. When I was younger my mind set is not like it is now.
Thank You Much boss 👊
Just had this conversation with my woman so I googled if requirements are different etc and this video popped up. I'm 29, wanted to go straight outta high-school but plans changed. I'm talking to a recruiter in a few months to see what I have to offer and hopefully I can still serve my fucking country. Thanks.
