I know you can't grow up in most 3D mario games.

The “punching butterflies for lives” trick in Mario 64 only works in certain courses where butterflies run from Mario, not just circle around him. But be careful, some of them might have bombs!

Alternatively you can just go to bomb omb battlefield, find a flower patch, warp and instant one up

What kind of world i Live in
by the way, only the butterflies that fly away from you contain the 1ups, so you just gotta chase after and punch em. theyre in certain locations but i forget where
You can get them when you start sm64
They are the butterflies that sit around in sets of 3, that fly away when you get close, but only one of them turns into a 1up and there is a 1 in 3 chance that none of them does, also you only have to touch them not punch 'em.

It almost certainly is. They probably realized right away that people could just idle in the first level for a few hours and get hundreds of lives and implemented an easy fix.

You don’t even have to move-Zelda gives you hearts at the beginning by default!

I'm into your channel as a gamer, but more and more, I'm into your channel as an educator. You took this creative leap--do this really tongue in cheek thing, see where it goes, and I think you realize you're reinventing the game a bit here. *You are an educational speedrunner*. You are getting this hard, fast data about game development, and, like, that is worth being excited about on its own and. Oh my God, the Star Birs.
How many people know the hard cap? How many people decided to play the game that way? You did, by thinking outside of the box, that is so honestly exciting to me as a game dev nerd--to know there's a hard cap written in there, and what it is, because someone decided to try to play a game differently--
I GUSH, but like. Someone did that. A real person was in charge of that tiny little detail, that number, and the chances that anyone else ever noticed was astronomically (hurr) low.

You can specifically pick up a couple of bonus star bits that will always spawn right behind you.
However since the camera was technically locked, the only way to see this, is in debug mode.
I speak from experience, as a kid one of my friends in middle school homebrewed their wii and went dicking about in galaxy for an cosmic Easter eggs

I remember passing by a guy at GamesCom who wore a Shirt with the Text:
They told me to grow up (a Super Mushroom half-concealed under "ow up") and get a Life (a 1-Up half-concealed under "ife").
That was good humor on my opinion. I mean I still remember it years later.

Ah, yes. Looks like you found a way around the no-life-counter problem (SMO's 2xHP Bar and Becoming Cat Mario in Bowser's Fury [since it has no lives system and health is calculated by power-ups]). Genius.
