Oh goodness, it's weird how regional differences have different meanings and context for words. I grew up and was taught that 懂 was the highest form of understanding where you know the reason, but 明白 was in general knowing something. I never even put together that 认识 could be used in a context of being familiar with a concept, only having been introduced to someone, but that does make sense.

Great lesson once again!!!! I'm really getting strong with my listening skills!! I am pleased to announce that I drink warm/hot water now too! It all started when I asked my husband to bring me water and it was hot. Imagine the look on my face, then the look on his. Long story short, I now drink warm/hot water! So, now my unbelievably wonderful and handsome husband who is from Beijing, not only got me hooked on Chinese tea and some kind of magical ointment he put on my foot when I got hurt that he uses to help injuries (he teaches self defense at his police dept, he's a Detective, but has done martial arts his whole life). He now got me into the hot water too!! What's next!?!! Love it! Love him, love learning Chinese! Thank you for all you do!! ❤😊🇨🇳
