    Exactly what I need. I can speak some Chinese by learning words and phrases that I write on flash cards and study... but when someone speaks Chinese to me I'm totally lost. It's so difficult for my ears because there are no multi-syllable words like in English.

      I'm studying myself too. I didn't really know where to start when I first became interested three weeks ago.
      I started studying hard since yesterday. I figurd I'd start with basic words that two year olds should know. Basic commands, greetings, names and objects type stuff. Then listen to occasional common phrase videos. When I learn about 75-200 words I figured I would practice writing. Idk how long it'll take but hey. I'll put the work in

      @@stpatrick7643 I have to agree with you. Studying words in the dictionary, hearing them pronounced, studying the characters and hearing it repeated over 15xs in one movie scene helped me to grasp the language better than just listening to Mandarin and hearing the English translation. Since you're in China, they won't speak as a translator, they'll speak as a native. If you don't familiarize yourself with language, it'll be harder to pick up on

    Hello,In sentence in the minute 13:40 is used the word Duo and Xie , I can not understand clearly the meaning of those words in the sentence. So Xie is also used in the sentence "Ni Maile XIE shenme"...Do not understand the meaning of xie there also...

    • @learnchinesewithquinnquinn2801
      @learnchinesewithquinnquinn2801 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The first Xie means some. Drink some more water. Duo means "more" or frequently in that sentence. In Chinese culture, expressions of quantities can be very general. Another Xie in Nǐ maile xie shenme, means "some"also but it indicates that the things you buy are plural. Sometimes xie doesn't have very useful meaning. It also means the same if you say Ni maile shenme? It's kinda similar function as "bit " in "a little bit". Hope my answer us useful 😄😄.

    I pretty much aced this. Really easy for me, but still really good practice. It helps for me to do these kinds of tests to measure where I’m at. Also good to get back to the basics. Good video! 谢谢你的帮助 ! 👍
