I was admiring your kitchen, then you said you are going to redo it. I imagine there are aspects that your viewers don’t know and flaws we can’t see, but I love the retro feel!
Thank you, I actually love this vintage kitchen and I am super sad to see it go soon. But unfortunately, it's in really bad condition. Most of the tiles are broken, the grout has been missing for so long (way before we moved here) that there is now mold growing between tiles. Also in the 1970's someone decided to cut the cupboards in half on the one side and add an oven LOL. SO yeah there is a lot that isn't really seen in my videos but looks so bad in real life and also doesn't function very well. I know that was a long story, but I thought in case someone else has the same question I would explain. I hope you are having a nice week. =)
I like to do a "winter clean" before the holidays, and then a good once-over before the new year. It's a good feeling to start the new year off with a clean house!
It's an Irish tradition to get rid of the year's grime and dust before New Year. I do it, but I admit Spring cleaning is a lot easier due to opening windows and doors...
Thank you Shannon for your video! I like your approach to minimalism. For me cosy home important. I have done my winter preparations months ago, because I live in Finland and winter comes earlier. Now we have snow and -10 degrees Celsius which is 14 F. I don't think it is freezing, we might have lot colder weather than this. Before winter I wash all my windows, I also pick berries and mushrooms and dry different herbs. I also look my winter clothes and boots, what I have and what I need. Because my country is next to Russia, I was thinking what I need in case of Russian attack. If I would not have electricity, I have lamps which work with batteries and candles. I also have winter sleeping bag if our warming system is not functioning. I am planning to buy camper cooking system, if electricity is not functioning so I can make food. My cottage in the country side is ready for winter also. There I have storehouse full of dry wood to burn in my stoves. My son wants that we have always storehouse full of dry wood. He said that If he has to go protect our country from enemy attack, I can live in our cottage and survive. We live in a grazy world, when 21 year old has to think safety in whole new perspective. I pray peace in the world 🙏and I am grateful for all the beautiful things life has to offer us 😊 Take care ❤
You won't believe it, my kitchen walls are done with that exact stencil and I'm all the way in cape town south Africa 😂😂😂😂 so obviously i love it! Thanks for another fabulous video! ❤
I do a massive deep clean just before Christmas. Then another one in June. Takes about three days. I also do all the little jobs that need done like refresh bits of paintwork etc. I descale the coffee maker and kettle. Sanitise the shower heads. Deep clean all the drains. Take about six hours cleaning the ovens. Take down all the lights and clean them. Wash every curtain, duvet, mattress protector, pillow protectors etc. I empty every cupboard and hoover and clean and declutter. Move furniture around. Get the roof and gutters checked. Check dates on everything in the kitchen. Restock what’s running low. It is such a good feeling when it’s all done. It means over Christmas I can relax a bit and just skim over for a few weeks😊. Spend time relaxing. 😊
The first thing I’m going to do is set reminders in my date book to do winter cleaning like I would do spring cleaning. What a great idea because goodness knows my house could use the special attention more often.
I think quarterly cleaning is a great way to do things that I never think to do regularly but that DO need to be done once in a while. I made a list of these tasks (so it’s off my mind!) and set a reminder in my phone to do them in January, April, July, and October.
@@shannontorrens1 I think that is because ya'll have always encouraged and included him in your home projects ❤ Children learn so well when it is hands-on😊 😊😊😊😊

I'm currently packing up to move next weekend. It's showing me that I have WAY too much stuff. I'm just going to have to declutter more as I unpack. Your home is coming along beautifully. I don't know what label fits, but this is my goal. My mom's home was always like this. Have just what you need, no excess, but cozy and homey.
thanks for sharing this! in German speaking countries there is actually and thing called "Weihnachtsputz" which translated to Christman cleaning and it means exactly that , getting the apartment or house ready for advent and decorating and entering that season

Thank you for the kind words! I will be sure to tell my mom! Dawn from the Minimal Mom is great and very nice. I have talked with her in the past, and she really is a very kind down to earth person. =)
I can see why the new dining area was so appealing for all your meals. Even if it annoyed Grant to make that stenciled “carpet” the finished product looks great - even from inside looking out through your door. I’m most motivated to declutter, organize and clean in January. It seems to flow from putting the house back to rights after Christmas.
That's a great tip. Where we live it doesn't get super cold so we usually open the windows and still have lots of bugs haha. But I can imagine how nice this would look. =)

My first time commenting although I’ve been subscribed for a while. I’m in the UK and have just done a full Autumn deep clean and I’ve only ever done this in the Spring before. It feels so nice having everywhere clean and cosy ready for the colder months. I am really enjoying your channel.
I will think of you this week as your kitchen demo begins. If anyone can get through it and still feel organized, it would be you!😊 I'm sure it will also be a fun week, deciding on the specifics after you've waited for quite a while. It will be worth the wait!
Thank you Julia! I swear we always start these projects at the worst time haha right before Christmas hahaha. Right now half the kitchen has plastic over it LOL. I am going to try to stay organized like you mentioned. I am excited to share this process on our other channel very soon. It will be a vlog type of video, but if you are interested, it will be over there. =) I hope you are doing well.
Ty Shannon. I will be excited to look for it on the other channel!! Your home renovations are about my favorite! Maybe you'll get a break from making Christmas treats LOL although you might miss the pecan candy. My husband watches his sugars but I know he might like to eat a piece of it this Christmas. Right before I turned forty, I was able to lose weight to where I was down to the weight that I weighed almost in my twenties. I realized you were about that age now, So I know you are super happy about your weight loss. Maybe it will be easier to keep it where you like it without extra treats. Of course you are beautiful, either way. I would love tips on what you found to be most successful. I'm not sure how I went down this rabbit hole l o l
Yay for your kitchen reno Shannon , youve waited a long time . Your husband did a great job stenciling . Its no small task, back in the day i stenciled whole rooms , staircases you name it so my hat is off to him .
I am decluttering because I moved last summer, but I work three hours away teaching till May 27th. Finally retiring after 42 years. So it’s been a very slow process but each break I accomplish getting things out to donation places or I have found families that need things which is very helpful to others at Thanksgiving break, I went through my granddaughter’s toys and she was great to help. Also my daughter in law has been selling some things for me. Thanks to you and your mom for your ideas and sharing I plan as I go😂

I enjoy your videos they bring great ideas and they’re very calming. Thanks. Have a great week.😊 Also, I use a painters stick which you can adjust to different heights so that you can get high up in areas
Stencil turned out beautiful!! Thank you for all your tips. Last night I did a Shannon and Kathy marathon on all the Swedish Death decluttering videos! I appreciate your channel. ❤🤗
I live in Maine and there’s over a foot of snow on the ground. I have a relative who does plowing for me so I’m fortunate in that regard. I’ve already swapped out my summer clothing for the sweaters, sweatshirts and pants.
Wow, a foot of snow must be beautiful! We live in So Cal, so there isn't any snow, and it always looks like so much fun from our perspective, but I am sure there is a lot of work involved.
Your painted patio looks lovely. Hoping you put a sealant on it and would suggest felt pads on the feet(bottom) of your outdoor table and benches. Great post. ❤
Thank you so much! We did put sealant on it and felt pads on the table and benches. After all that work we were very worried it would get messed up right away. So far it's been holding up. But only time will tell lol.
We have thought so much about trying to keep the kitchen vintage feeling. Unfortunately the problem with the tile is not only are most of them chipped or cracked but there is mold growing under them and coming up through the grout and where the grout is missing. We thought about trying to salvage some of it but my husband said it would be impossible. The mold is one of the major reasons why we are moving forward with the project now. =)
The stenciled patio looks good, great place to entertain. Back in my "better" home keeping days, I wouldn't do spring cleaning, I'd deep clean in the fall, usually October. The house would be clean going into the Holidays; then when decorating and getting through the stressful season, only regular cleaning was required.
We are hosting for Christmas so I started cleaning in November with the same checklist I had last year. My hubby needs to clean the baseboards but that is it. I also make a checklist for grocery shopping and don’t buy everything at once so it isn’t one big huge grocery bill. One thing is my husband loves Christmas so we have a ton of decorations out. It is a compromise for me because I could just have a tiny bit. It can be overwhelming for me. I always take a sigh of relief once the decorations are down.
It always feels good to have a clean home when hosting! That is awesome that your husband does the baseboards. It makes such a difference when they are clean and dust-free. =)
Haha Grant's 'Honey Do' list never ends but neither does yours so fair is fair. I agree that some seasonal deep cleaning should be done not only in the spring. I live in Canada and will be spending a lot more time indoors throughout the winter with the windows shut so removing dust is a priority now.
please tell me what that beautiful plant is behind you that is very tall and has red flowers all over it. I wish our growing season was longer up here in Ontario Canada but winter is so cruel to flowering plants. your home is just gorgeous and I can't wait to see what you do to the kitchen. ♥
Sand down the end of the brush so it’s not sharp. Also you may be able to take a Dollar Tree broom handle and suck tap them together 🤣. I’m always using things till they are completely done!!!
I know I was wracking my brain trying to see if I could fix it, but the way it broke, the metal was clamped shut in a very sharp way. It's so annoying when those sort of things happen lol.
Great tips as always. But more than anything I’m so jealous of your weight loss. You always looked great but this change happened really quick and now you look tiny. Care to share how you did it? I need that kind of inspiration 🥴
Thank you! I decided I am going to make a video about this =) I have had a lot of questions, and it will probably be easiest to make a video explaining.
This dough was actually bought from Trader Joes, it's soo good. Then we use red sauce and we like vegan cheese, but you can use any cheese. This is the best pizza dough I have found that is pre-made.
I’m curious - I know the term is relative, so what’s considered “cold” in SoCal? It’s currently 10 degrees here in very northern IN/ southern MI & were due to hike today. 😁
I have been thinking about doing a video on this. I am just nervous people might take it the wrong way, I don't want anyone to think I am giving out dietary advice lol.

I just discovered your decluttering with your mother, so pleasant ! Last month, I helped my sister and spent a very warmful time too. 😊 A good opportunity to remember good moments and laugh🎉 !!
The patio was an ongoing process that took about a month, and we finished it before our guests came to visit at the end of October, I mentioned that we finally finished a project and so I was sharing it in this video. It is cold here now in the mornings and evenings but we live in Southern CA and my kids wear shorts to school everyday. It is still winter, though =)

Hi Shannon, I enjoy your videos so much. You are so calm and make everything feel easy to do. Other people are very talkative and give me anxiety
Someone else we have already said this but I call it quarterly cleaning
I love that wording! I will use that in the future =)
As always, thank you Shannon. I like what you share and how you do it. Merry Christmas to you and your family. :)
Merry Christmas to you and your family too!
You got me motivated to simplify even more. Thanks for all the good ideas. Btw your hair looks so chic in an updo.
The outdoor patio table and stencil work looks great! I enjoy your videos also your hair looks very nice up in that style.😊
Great inspiration video! Doing a deep clean of living room area then Christmas tree will go up here ✔️ Your food looked scrumptious 🤩💕🎄💕
Thank you! I hope you have fun putting up the Christmas decor =)
A very pretty kitchen. Nice color and looks very functional
Thank you so much! =)
Get a little green machine to clean your chairs. It works manic on stains.
That is a great idea! I will have to look into that.
The light chairs could be re-upholstered with a different color of fabric on the chairs.👍
I really enjoyed this video.😊 It was helpful and relaxing to watch! Also the music was calming.🎶
I am glad you enjoyed the video! I am always looking for ways to make my videos calming to watch.
Love this video. Very calming
Thank you! 😊
That stencil looks great!
Thank you! I am so happy with how it turned out.
It is cold here in California especially in the early morning and I am in San Diego. Go figure!!!
I know! I think it's something to do with the moisture level, it always feels colder than it should.
Why have I never put chili on my sweet potatoes? Yum. I usually top them with salsa and black beans, so similar, but chili sounds even better.
It's really yummy!
Awesome n Beautiful! 👏👏👏👍💞😃
Thank you, your always encouraging, your great.
Thank you so much for watching! =)
please tell me what that beautiful plant is behind you that is very tall and has red flowers all over it. I wish our growing season was longer up here in Ontario Canada but winter is so cruel to flowering plants. your home is just gorgeous and I can't wait to see what you do to the kitchen. ♥
Thank you! I think the plant you are probably talking about is a bougainvillea. It's very pretty, but the flowers do make a mess =)
Hello shannon.....Nice video again😊😊
Thank you so much for being here! I hope you have a nice day.
What is your other channel? I would like to keep up with the kitchen makeover
Hello, our other channel is called Wood Glueru : th-cam.com/channels/PErVKWTH6TmlQcW4C1Z3Ig.html
What was the plant you were tending at the end? Looks gorgeous!
Hello, that is a pathos plant =) They are easy to take care of.
I thought so. I have a couple myself. Lovely plants. !
I need to know how you made that pizza, it looks delicious! Is the dough store bought or home made?
This dough was actually bought from Trader Joes, it's soo good. Then we use red sauce and we like vegan cheese, but you can use any cheese. This is the best pizza dough I have found that is pre-made.
@ Thank you!
I've heard it called "cozy Minimalism".
I’m curious - I know the term is relative, so what’s considered “cold” in SoCal? It’s currently 10 degrees here in very northern IN/ southern MI & were due to hike today. 😁
45 to 50 degrees, time to put on a jacket.
@@kathyolnice! We definitely wear jackets for those temps here, too. 😁
Color Mr green. Wish we could eat outside without the mosquitoes.
Do you mind sharing your weight loss how-to? What did you find worked best for you?
I have been thinking about doing a video on this. I am just nervous people might take it the wrong way, I don't want anyone to think I am giving out dietary advice lol.
@ I think you could just say that. Maybe what you share could be helpful.
@@shannontorrens1 I was very interested in your content about reducing packaged foods. I think there would be lots of people interested in these topics.
You give helpful suggestions and hints, you never lecture or boast. Thats why this channel is my fav @shannontorrens1
I love your big armchairs in living room
Hi Shannon! Does that one pizza feed your whole family?
Hello, No that pizza was just an appetizer. If we ate that for dinner we would probably make about 3 of them and put on a lot of toppings =)
@shannontorrens1 Lol.
Could you maybe clean your chairs then scotch guard them? They’re lovely chairs.😊
That's a good idea! I never thought of scotch guard. Thank you I will look at how to do that.
💗
❤❤❤

Thanks for your answer. I did not notice that I could chose the language. 👍🏽 Merci
I just discovered your decluttering with your mother, so pleasant ! Last month, I helped my sister and spent a very warmful time too. 😊 A good opportunity to remember good moments and laugh🎉 !!
You're talking about winter but wearing shorts & flipflops
The patio was an ongoing process that took about a month, and we finished it before our guests came to visit at the end of October, I mentioned that we finally finished a project and so I was sharing it in this video. It is cold here now in the mornings and evenings but we live in Southern CA and my kids wear shorts to school everyday. It is still winter, though =)
