    The combination of Philip K. Dick's story, Paul Verhoeven's directing and Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting made this movie just brilliant. Sci-Fi, Action and Humor, it has it all.

    I think part of the reason why Total Recall and all those 80s/90s movies are pure legend... Is actually the Music. The Music was awesome and at times, it was as if the music was playing in the background, while the actors delivered their lines - they fit so perfectly together. Modern movies just have some throwaway, same old same old, music that seems added as an afterthought to the movie.

    • @The3rdGunman

      My dude I was just talking about this the other day! All this music was composed and performed. Noe the studios just have some jag off at a computer pro tolling his way to a score. And everybody EVERYBODY is just trying to make the Hans Zimmer inception sound. And practical FX man. I hate those Robert Rodriquez Machete style digital squibs that junk is video game retarded.

    • @Glacielfire
      @Glacielfire 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Glacielfire
      But i love the "Dream" music and that alien innerside ..that Kuato theme, that i remember was used in a car commercial. By the way, Jerry Goldsmith music for Basic Instinct (and with Paul Verhoeven too) was used in another car commercial with Sharon Stone...; Jerry Goldsmith was a master and his music was so...magical and powerful, that the music for pictures is not the same without him. Now you have that media-venture music of Zimmer and Co. and all the people saying "What a great music score"!!! You people would really must listen Jerry Goldsmith scores like Poltergeist...and Chinatown.!!

    great sci-fi movie. movies of today are just not as memorable as they were back then, I'm just glad I was just a little kid when these types of movies came out

    The short segment with Jerry Goldsmith discussing the score starts at 20:57. Really a phenomenal effort and one of the all-time great action scores.

    For many years after watching this, randomly me & my bro would just start saying; 'toooo weaks, toooh weeeeeks' with twisted faces.
    When a hotel receptionist asked how long would we'd be staying, my answer just had to be.

    Way better than the cold, dead and flat new version. The new Total Recall: awesome special effects and photography, no soul, no personality, couldn't even finish watching it, fell asleep 2 quarters into it.

    This was Arnolds best work as an actor. He managed to bring vulnerability to his character despite still being a behemouth. And Verhoven was at the top of his game here. Just a fantastic movie overall.

    In that time, a movie could be especially interesting because of groundbraking new effects. Today, basically anything is possible. Whatever you may not be able to shoot, just produce it in CGI. I am not saying it's a simple task to do perfectly convincing photorealistic 3D, but with the right artists, it is possible, and so anything can be done. The last time we saw groundbraking technology was in Avatar in 2008. Since then, movies get overflown with CGI, often where practical effects would have been more interesting.
