That might be one of the best built most beautiful cars in the world. Absolutely in love with these.
My uncle had this car back in the late 70’s and at 17 he allowed me to drive it to a family wedding with my sister. It was so powerful and so cool I’ll never forget driving that car around San Francisco.
I drive that type of car is great and l power car.never like .is a like a tanke .
This cars bodywork is perfect, not a blemish along its lines. It has never been parked in supermarket car parks. A beautiful machine, I'm only sad as I don't have it.
This is Class, so much more then any 2024 Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG or Mercedes-Maybach
These were built like a tank and great family cars for everyday and long trips.
One of my absolute favorite vehicles growing up in Germany. My father's job in the military luckily got me rides in some of the state & police- owned W116's
Looks so smooth on the highway. 👌🏽
BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC MERCEDES 450 SEL 6.9 WOW LOVE IT-LOVE THAT THE CAR CAN STILL DRIVE AT THIS SPEED ON THE AUTOBAHN.
SUPER GORGEOUS , GETTING ME ONE THIS YEAR 2024.
My favourite body style of any car ever. It's perfect ! The 6.9L engine would terrify me :) I guess a few locals were surprised when this classic passed them at that speed :)
SUPERB!!
The best, or nothing!
(That car is drop-dead gorgeous!)
Wow.. Lovely example of a fantastic automobile 👌
Thank you
Very beautiful W116 450 SEL 6.9. My dad used to have the exact same car same color except he had palomino tan leather interior. 286 Hp and 405 Ft/Lbs of torque
Many thanx
Lovely cars, and with white wall tyres,Chrome Bunt rims really set the stance, and lifts the appearance ✅
A pleasure to see such a nice example✅
Still ahead of most modern cars. Merc makes cars for a lifetime. 50 years and raring to go.
Used to.
What an amazing example of this legendary car from almost half a century ago when it was competing with Rolls Royce at this level of refinement; give me this over the Rolls any day.
In the early 90's I had a 450SEL (not this 6.9), and boy that was a great car and to the designer Herr Friedrich Geiger.......Salut! These were well made cars, not only the outstanding body lines but the full technical spec. While the rest of the worlds auto manufacturers were fiddling with carburretors, these W116's came with the 'K' Jetronic fuel injection. The suspension was well balanced and the interior, middle of the road, just fit for the purpose which is to get you from A to B - unlike some auto makers who boasted of leather seats, yet under the bonnet lacked any technical innovation or excellence. My favorite car, the Mercedes-Benz W116.🌻
back when German vehicles are known for their durability, dependability, and reliability.
that is the old days............
@@jeancarlorabino6454 But they weren't. I wanted to buy a used Audi 100 LS in 1980 and I was told it was very expensive to maintain. My cousin bought a 4 year old used Mercedes and had issue after issue after issue with it. I ended up getting a 1972 Volvo 164E and it spent the first 2 months in the shop 6 times for various electronic and fuel injector issues. Yes the cars were well built and all, but they weren't necessarily dependable. And the Jaguars were truly awful. Japanese cars, OTOH, were prone to rust back then, but more reliable. Though they were nowhere near as nice as the current Japanese cars.
Some Mercedes were reliable and such but others weren't. Today's Mercedes are similar it's just it's now 2024 and ambient lights and digital screens are popular, so they have them.
At one stage the 450sel 6.9 was the fastest 4-door sedan in the world. It is one of the most beautiful Mercedes from the modern era, personally the only other car more beautiful is the W108/109 300sel 6.3 designed by Paul Bracq. The double stack headlights, large grill, and body lines.
I had one these beautiful cars for six months! They are amazing cars, Unfortunately I couldn’t afford to keep it.
Classic Mercedes were real gorgeous unlike today's piece of crap
Absolutely beautiful!
What a lovely car😊
Thank you!
When i was a young man of 18 yo, we had a family friend who owned this car. I got to drive the car. This was seemed huge but the ride was out of this world. Loved it.
Right colour , perfect combination.
Het blyft eigenlyk de mooiste auto die gemaakt is
.wereldwijd in het topsegment.
I love this German autobahn
:-)
Great car...while living in Spain had an 83 240 D. Fabulous, plus a four-speed stick.
Foor-speed ? Exceptionnelle !!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful car!
The largest engine Mercedes ever sold was 1999 in the SL73 AMG (R129) with a 7.3l V12 (N.A.)
Yes sir
7.7l in the 770 W07/ W150
They were SL600's and were sent to AMG for engine work, so he's right the 450 6.9 is the largest engine Mercedes ever built as AMG just enlarged a stock 6.0. AMG were a separate company at the time as well so it was not a Mercedes product in the strictest of terms.
@@Luton-Mick AMG became in 1998 part of Mercedes Benz and the SL 73 AMG was build in 2001.
@@Freimopp777"Post-war" would be a good qualifer for the SL73 claim. Wondering if like the "Blitzen Benz" or something is bigger than 7.7? IDK
Together with the Pagoda, this is a top 10 car to have in the garage.
Hey awesome Merc 😊 incredible power thanks a lot 😊
My father had one he sold it I wish I had it❤
What a cool car, probably one of the coolest ever😎
Before you even started speaking I was looking at the naff whitewall tyres and wondering if it was from the USA!, at least it isn't bright red😂. Also glad those awful USA bumpers have been changed.
If I could afford to buy one of these, run it, and keep t in petrol, I'd have one no question👍
Beautiful beast 👍
Amazing vehicle ❤
My dad had a 1965 Chrysler New Yorker 2 dr HT. Me back then in 1975 when I turned 18 and got my DL he said : Son, now you can take the car for a drive and I drove it strate to the freeway ( no utoban ) just a freeway that they have and I had it up to 200 km hr 😂 Wow, never have I driven a car that fast 😮 and this was in Finland 😅 Looks like this man is from Sweden but he used this car driving it in Germany on the Autoban 😂 That Chrysler had a V8 also with like 350 horsepower like a 7.7 litre engine if I remember right. Wow, those god old days are gone 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That’s beautiful ❤
I wish cars were still just as well-made as that one is.
Real mercedes
Beautiful machine I love it
Lovely car ❤👍😍👍
Many thanx
It has to be one of the nicest money pits ever made. Nevertheless, it was solid. (The sunroof has to be adjusted to make this one almost perfect)
beautiful car, which seems to be in a very good condition!...Just one remark and one question:, first: As you said, the US version has less power, in fact it is around 250 PS compared to 286 in the Euro Versions. You can use 95 gasoline instead of 98 the Euro version wants. But the lower compressed US version has a slightly higher fuel consumption. Please correct that also in your specs in your sales link, where you post 290 PS?...second: The 6.9 had velour as standard and for some bucks more you got real leather. Did that car got a new interior in MB Tex? Or is that real leather?
Thanx! It was MB tex. It is going back to USA now.
Does it have height level control? 🤩
Yes, it does. In the video it is at "normal" height
This is some of the real Mercedes. 6.9litre v8engine,wee realy talk German M.B.A real Classic
Wow...just wow
IMHO, this is one of few MB's examples of cars when MB was actually producing & manufacturing A CAR. In as much as most MB nowadays are technology packed to keep up with times & regulations, current MB cars lack soul and character like classics such as this immaculate example 🏆 👍
Benzin? And how does it cost? Thank you!
Piudiful mersedes ❤❤❤❤❤280 s klasse lux legendar
We have one from 1978 UK SPEC. In Benghazi libya.
This thing was a pleasure to drive and even faster then our BMW 750, but fuel consumption at high speeds was almost double, in maximum 38 litres per 100 km plus 1 or 2 liters of engine oil. 😂
Wow dont make them like that anymore all mercs 70s so much more sexier looking . Class
Agree
Beautiful example! Did you sell it yet? If so, how much?

Wonderful car ! But video is not German Autobahn but filmed in Sweden 😎
Really nice car, just curious about the asking price.
39.000 euro and we will not refuse reasonable offers
Espetacular
Thank you
Back to 1977... do I want this 450SEL, Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, or Lincoln Towncar?
well if those are your choices, you're in America...so you'd have to be somewhat abnormal to have the money, the smarts AND the frigidity to see past Lincoln's style or Cadillac's sass
how do you do the ppi on this one?
How come the headlights and bumpers are european version. Tnx
Previous owner thought they look better
Very good car in great shape.
The seats appear to have been replaced or redone in MBtex, and not leather.

James Hunt had one a d reached 120mph in his driveway. Rumour has it.
must've been a long driveway
@@TheGrimStoic 🥴😂
This will last another 50 years and more. I want it exported to Vietnam. Possible? We will use it for a boutique resort to ferry out our exclusive suite customers.
Yes, we can export anywhere.
It was the German Rolls Royce, no Question.
That car is for gangsters🙏🏽
How much?
39k
Too bad the bumpers have been changed, the North American bumpers looked much nicer. Cheers
I think not many would agree. But it is a good thing we all do not think the same. :-)
@@classix0707658904 True, this kind of diversity is good.
I think the North American bumpers look more balanced on such a large car, especially when painted in darker colours. That said, I think most of us can agree that the North America bumpers certainly gave muuuch better protection. Cheers
definitely not!....The US bumpers are uggly!

What's the point in having 6.9 ltre, when the same or better performance can be provided by 2.0 engine today????
if you had drive one you would know
Only 180 km/h ? It´s a joke for this Mercedes 😂😂and nothing when the Autobahn is empty or when there is little traffic. Greetings from a german Autobahn fan.
Beautiful but need to be perfect type hardtop sedan 4 doors a/c color in back in roof and refrigerator like toyota crown in back back seats
2:20 = No, you are not in Germany!

Ha, definitely filmed in Sweden

Hydraulic suspension not air..
Yes!
It's a Mercedes..Next time you make 250 km/h.😏
❤😮😮👌👌👌👌
Definitely not in Germany, Sweden rather

For some inexplicable reason, every European videographer with a channel related to automobiles feel compelled to blame bad design and poor taste with the American population and culture. Do you mean that there weren't any cars in Europe during the 1970's with white striped tires? Obviously, we (Americans) had plenty of extra chrome that we chose to squander on our vehicles beyond a rational amount and definitely in poor taste, but what does that have to do with the car that you are reviewing in your video?
My friends father had a Mercedes 450 SEL and an SL and neither had those shiny wheels or striped tires. Now, take a good look at the latest cars from Bentley, Rolls Royce and definitely BMW and truly understand the definition of "bling" with a watchful eye on poor taste.
needlessly getting your knickers in a knot mate - his is the complain about coital noise of the buxom upstairs by a frumpy spinster in the basement
Lol. Okay my friend, I feel better now!
@@stephenmajor5498 I love both European and American designs - they appeal to different quarters of your aesthetics
I agree with you and promise to do better. And we like the bling wheels on this one. We have an original set also.
@@classix0707658904 Thank you, my friend. Your gesture of good will goes a long way in my book. I'll begin a subscription to your channel shortly after a "like" in the comments. Now, on to the next video.👍
Very short gearing.
So schon.
I think the biggest engine they produced was 7.3 l
the 7.3 was a 12 cylinder and at that time AMG did the conversion to 7.3 liter.
Fahren fahren fahren auf der autobahn.
BRO WHAT????????
6.9 Liters????????
yooooo is that even fuel efficient??????
Well Joy efficient, between 16 to 38 litres per 100 km 😂, but we loved it.
tf??????????
then I will find the smaller engine and put on it................
"Germany"...yeah right.😉
Lite fånigt försök att behålla lappen antar jag, men wireräckena ser man i varje fall inte på "Autobahn", och Löddeköpinge liger fortfarande i sverige, mig bekant ?

in Germany , are you sure.....where was it....? 😁😁😁
This was filmed in the vicinity of Landskrona and around driving on the motorway heading to Malmö, Sweden. Not a single piece of footage was shot in Germany. Why lie to the viewers?
@@johanliden5114listen 2:22 "now we are in Germany because we are on Autobahn....."....
Good car, bad driver!
Holding the steering wheel with one hand like in a parking lot, in a 47 years old car going 180 km/h means you should not be allowed to drive on public roads.
much noise while driving fast. better a new one.
There's more noise insulation now. And the older Mercedes had a very firm type of ride and very firm seats The newer ones soak up bumps much gentler and the seats have softened some. But I don't like all of the ambient lights and other bling on the newer ones and wish they went back to more simple yet luxurious interiors.
Manda kasa...
Huge liability. Pointless Benz. Shop elsewhere and thank me later.
