You were something special with this car in that time. In 1986, my dear dad would drop me off at school in it. Upon my arrival, my best friend would perform curbside salute, and open my door for me, as our stately arrival did in fact cause quite a scene. Thank you for the video.
That's cute! LOL Back in those days, everyone we knew wanted a Cadillac or a Lincoln as we all believed in buying American. I still do. I've never had anything but an American car.
I'm sorry, the latest S Class doesn't do it for me. I do not like the exterior styling, and the interior resembles that of a Tesla than something which should be more upscale.
@@tomcat6933 I never had one. But according to my mechanic the maintenance is VERY expensive. Plus you have to wait weeks for parts to arrive from Germany.
One can say this car was very well taken cared of. The net at the back of the front seats will usually sag, but this looks it has been hardly used. The same goes for the speedometer, upholstery, especially the wood trim. I wish the old couple all the very best.
I drove an 85 560 SEL in 87 for my boss sometimes and what a smooth powerful tight machine. It was black and silver and beautiful. So quiet cruising at 70...
@@Nam-id7kj It must of been an 86 then, been awhile ...it was a lease. He actually preferred his Lincoln so i got to use the 560 sometimes. The LSC was nice too.
If I was in the market for another Mercedes, I would certainly drive to California and pick this one up only $25,000. That’s a smoking deal for anybody.
My Dad had this for while and also my older brother had a custom built then which he bought from an Ambassador. I can’t get over this Model. Pls if you are selling…….
With so-called "museum" pieces such as these, the low-mileage, vintage vehicles have issues with gaskets and seals - any rubber hoses or pliable parts - as, due to not being driven regularly, can crack or rot away, and may not announce itself during the test drive, but a month or so later, you're looking at replacing vacuum hoses, brake lines, fuel lines, weather stripping, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, and suspension bushings, not to mention the tires. Just FYI.
I one time follishly auctioned of a car at Mecum. They get a lot of commision from buyer and seller ( 30+% total) and you have to pay 2000 or so for entry in the auction and you pay for transport. BJ has no reserve auctions so with your bad luck, being in a wrong time slot; you will miss out big time. I used to buy classic cars lik ethis as profession. If this was my car I sell it on Bring a Trailer or list it at Hemmings or something. Never use a auction . NEVER
Mercedes has lost its brand recognition. Back in the 80’s if you see a mercedes on the road ppl will envy. Now if you see a mercedes its just like any other
Back in the 80's they only had Mercedes and S-Klasse. No C, B, A and all the other budget program. Their cars were build to last, vs. today they are built to expire and to buy new.
Also towards the end, the car was lifted at the differential. Although many will find this OK. It is uncalled for and it is definitely not OK by my standards.
It’s lovely yes but what about the massive dent in the rear panel behind the rear number plate !!! Umm why wouldn’t you have this dent pulled out? It’s so obvious yet you didn’t say a thing about it
I purchased a 1991 300 SE back in the '90's to use as my daily driver in my Real Estate business. It's Black Pearl with gray interior. I still have it and drive it quite a bit. Is this car for sale?
You need to sand the pealing paint of the oil pan underneath then spray a good high temperature black paint to restore the beauty underneath. It looks terrible like junk underneath.
It is missing it's hood insulation pad as well. I find it possible that the hood is a replacement from a salvaged vehicle, that may have been driven in the rust belt area.

The time and era when Mercedes Benz meant something. The S Class still holds that title today.
Mercedes Benz are The Cream of The Crop! 🏆💯

I had 2 560's from 1986. The S and SL. Be prepared to pay for maintenance.
Agree the S class still the king
@@tomcat6933 I never had one. But according to my mechanic the maintenance is VERY expensive. Plus you have to wait weeks for parts to arrive from Germany.
That is a elegant, beautiful car that exudes real class and confidence. Mercedes really made the best vehicles in the world at that time.
WOW She's a beaut !! I remember dreaming of a car like this back in the 80s
what a beautiful car. They looked after it well.
Respect to the owners. Carmel is a good place for people and fine cars to spend 40 years.
I've always loved these cars. I wish car are designers would design cars just like this one.
Such a classic. Growing up, I always loved these. They were the mark of success
That car is built like a tank. Rock solid.
This Long Wheelbase S Class invites to Cruise. Beautiful and in great conditions.
Just lovely!!! What a classic German master class! 😊

The original owner should have kept it , this is not just a car, it’s legacy and part of the family , Beautiful ❤ auntie speced it well
What a car!! Absolutely stunning! 😍
Hello from Canada. You are right, the colour is a winner!
What a classic German master class

Beautiful car. If I purchased it, I would upgrade the headlights to the European ones.
Bumpers too. Those are different in Europe as well.
Thatcar is stunning
My wife relatives have one of this car very quiet and original mercedes benz
Great review, you all need to get one of those fury microphone things. Reduce all that background noise

I had an SEL… these things are serious tanks… foot thick doors.
a true time capsule
What a beauty, I wish it had the additional 60 horsepower of the Euro-spec models.
I have a 560sec widebody - genuine AMG

Not a catastrophe...
Its in good condition.
Those cars are very reliable, God help you if it breaks though, you'll need a second mortgage
I would change the headlights and the bumpers to the European ones , and call it a day .
I would send that to Barrett Jackson! Collectors will pay a bunch of coin for that classic.

There is abnormal wear on the inside of the driver's side front tire.
Price?
Wow nice !
Can I call dis SEL 560 a vintage car?
So beauti❤️
German Power 😍
👍👍👍
Not mention the price so they can sell it for 500 percent more than what bought it for.
I wouldnt trust this guy one bit, he says they repainted both bumpers, yet did not fix nor mention the big dent by rear license tag
Exactly!!!! Transparency is key!
C'est vrai, c'est louche

Here is your sign. 🙄
Missing hood insulation pad?
I find it possible that the hood is a replacement from a salvaged vehicle, that may have been driven in the rust belt area.
My dad had this car in 1986 his was like a greenish color and my uncle had one too and 1987. How much did you pay for this car? Just curious.❓
How much??????
25.000$ still for sale on the website of DODI cars, California

how is it possible to have this low in mileage???
The new Mercedes models are so cheap feeling.
Under the hood has some rust. Why? otherwise, looks great for year.
