How to Mix Drum Overheads (Two Different Genres)

  • Today we will be mixing drum overheads for 2 genres. Rock and Reggae. Both take similar and different approaches. Hope you guys enjoy.

    For rock and metal , I generally Hi-pass everything up to 500Hz sometimes more. I find that if I get too much "Drums" in the overheads , the drums get muddy/boxy , especially the faster the tempo is. I let the shell mics and room mics take care of the body and glue. I like your approach to cymbals on Reggae.

    Hi engineer what reverb do you put in the rimshot or woodblock

      I use a plate and spring reverb

      Thank you if I understand correctly you use the plate reverb and the other reverb I did not understand well

      @@agabuskumbu8782 yes. I use a combination of a plate and spring reverbs as send FX. Both are very subtle but noticeable.
