At first it seems like she wants to impress Rainbow Dash, but she also acts like a jerk when she is alone with Pinkie Pie. So again, why? Then I came to the conclusion that deep underneath all that attitude is a softer side that has always been a part of her personality but she learned growing up that that part of her is frowned upon and wouldn't get her anywhere.
It's so much fun returning to Josh's reviews in particular just because his style is so honest, he knows the difference between good and bad writing, he clearly likes the show but doesn't tolerate when it does something bad or annoying, it's the perfect example of a fair review, the good is good and in this case the lame is LAME!
Yeah Gilda is one of the characters that would made or break an episode for me, same with Trixie I just found both really annoying. Both of them could have had so much more development but both just fall flat to me, though at least Trixie got a returning role and a cameo in Equestria Girls.

She thinks this because in Griffinstone, you're only as important as the amount of bits you have, so she probably gets ignored a lot and made fun of for trying to make friends in Griffinstone. She's probably insecure and that's probably the biggest reason she puts on this act. I got convinced about this when Doctor Wolf made that whole anger management video that actually had Gilda in it
Ooh, never knew that before. And not to brag, I do know quite a lot about the original sonic, like, Eggman was going to wear this pyjama suit thing, and knuckles was originally going to be a girl who was green, but they scrapped that idea because of the fighting style of the character.

Twilight actually had a pretty strong point to make considering also that Pinkie Pie was ridiculously clingy. The only reason she even gets vindicated is because Gilda made herself look bad in front of everyone. As if that couldn't have been gotten across just fine with what we saw with her and Pinkie Pie.

Later on, as you already know, Gilda redeems herself with the Griffin's idol. And because of the culture in Griffinstone, she had to be a 'tough girl' to fit in.
In the scene where Twilight believed someone she didn't know over one of her friends, I was suddenly reminded of the Season 2 finale where her friends chose to believe people they didn't know over her.
