  • I sorta made a promise to a few people that I would make a video showing the install of an Integy Spur Gear.
    The following list is of gear combos and the top speeds I achieved:
    "FT"= Full Throttle
    Arrma Typhon -Toro TS 150 esc - Poseidon 2200kv motor
    29T/46T Team Durango Spur - 89mph on 6s 60c 5000mah "FT"
    29T/38T Integy Spur - 96mph on 6s 60c 5000mah
    Arrma Kraton - Castle xL2 esc - Cordova 1440 2000kv motor
    30T/40T Integy Spur - 76mph on 6s 60c 5000mah
    30T/38T Integy Spur - ? Haven't tested this combo yet

I'm not sure which rc you have, but Hot Racing sells a new style motor mount that takes all those mesh problems away. I have a video on it too. It's the Hot Racing Channel Lock Motor Mount. Hi mate I've been looking for a smaller spur gear for my kraton 6s I fitted the 8s motor and ESC and that smaller spur will help with getting the speed back up. Try some bearing mount for your bearings just incase the bearing starts spinning on the spur gear it will do some damage. Thanks for spur information brother 👍👍😷🤪🤣🤣🤣

      @TheDeterminedFisherman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose Lopez I did a 96mph run with a 29t pinion and 38t spur in my Typhon. If you have already cleaned all of the inner parts of the center diff, filled it up with fluid, and it's still doesn't spinning, I'd suggest taking it apart again and when putting it back together make sure each part of seated properly in its slot. The sun gear on both drive cups have to fit perfectly on top of the pin that holds the cup shafts in place on the diff. Before closing it and screwing it back together, spin the drive cup with the open side of the diff facing up to make sure all of the gears are meshed and seated properly before screwing it back together. Again, make sure the sun gears are seated on their pins perfectly. There's a notch on each of them that the pin slides into.

    The new talion v3 the diff comes w shims aready and I made sure that the ends things that
    are in the gear are sitting all the way down and it turn w no problem but thanks I'm going to work it out..

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention about the two sets of gears that sit on top of one another; there is a certain way they sit on top of one another too. You have to make sure the notches on each touch one another so it'd sit perfect. As you see, any slight millimeter in any direction throws the whole functionality of the diff off.

    Im running the kraton v4 I have good fan with a 16t pinion for 66mph. Question with the stock moter and esc what gear setup can I use and keep my temperature down for more speed?

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gerry Little Unfortunately when doing speed runs, heat is always going to be an issue. A 16t pinion is the highest you'd want to go for all-terrain driving. Anything over 17t I would keep it on hard pavement to prevent heat from the heavy load on the motor/esc from riding off-road.
      I hope that helps!🙂👍

      @TheDeterminedFisherman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      killaharl III Honestly I just screwed it on as if it were stock, but what I didn't know until recording this video is that shims are needed to prevent the spur's screws from rubbing against the motor mount. If you fast forward and pause the video at the 18:30 mark, you can see the rub scratches. I couldn't tell the Spur was rubbing while running it, but the visual marks on the mount makes it very evident.

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello..... It fits onto the stock center diff, but the overdrive shaft of the spur is a tiny bit wide, wide enough to allow the screws holding the spur on the center diff to rub against the motor mount. The easy fix would be to at add few washers/shims between the spur and the motor mount. I honestly didn't notice the rubbing while running it, but you can see it on this video at the 21:53 mark. I reached 96mph with that center diff setup in my Typhon rubbing and all.

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, but I think I know what happened... After running this 38t spur gear many times, I noticed that the motor mount/center diff had scuff marks on it and it was coming from the screws that held the spur gear on to the center diff case. A good way to eliminate that would be to replace the center diff with a spool, but with a spool you may run into heat issues and it is not recommended for off road use.

      I ran it for a long time by itself to later realize the screw holding it on was scrapping the motor/diff mount. I was able to do several speed runs and when I went to change the spur is when I saw it. It fit the center diff case and I've used them on the Raw Steele Spur adapter.

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Actually with Arrma's 1/8 scale line up, all of the pinions and spurs are "Mod 1". Usually gears that have "pitch" in the name are for 1/10 scale or smaller. 1/5 scale rc's use "Mod 1.5" which is pretty thick and heavy duty. That's what I used on my 1/5 scale gas to electric conversion.👍

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman

      When taking putting the diff back together (I'm not sure what they're called) there are 4 metal pieces that go between the 4 inner gears that are turned by the 2 sun gears. They must be positioned so that the flat side is facing towards the side of the spur gear which should make it sit flush with the plastic diff case. If that doesn't solve it, I'd suggest taking the whole diff apart, cleaning it thoroughly, put it back together, and refill it with diff fluid of your choice. I actually had the same thing happen to me once too. Just have to make sure that everything is position how it originally was prior. I also noticed the screws in the spur rub against the motor mount as well, but somehow never noticeably affected the smoothness of driving.

      Chris Chupp I hear ya. The only problem is using a smaller spurs creates more heat. These Integy spurs fit, but also unnoticeable rubs a little on the motor mount. It could use a few shims between the motor mount and the spur's out-drive shaft.👍

      Make sure not only the rubber O-ring is in place, but also that the sun gear is seated on top of the retaining pin that goes through the shaft of the diff cup. There's a little notch etched out where the retaining pin fits into on the underside of both sun gears.

    Its a proses swapping these spur gears, but do you get any leaks between the shaft and the bearings? Cuz the way I did my Typhon 38t spur I cut off a 5 x 11 gearing in half and used the center of it and put that on the spur gear plus a new gasket and no leaks at all out of it...

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't had any big problems or messes with leaks. After a few runs I get the usual sand particles on the chassis, but the diff fluid is still at a good level inside the diff when I go to switch spurs. Possibly because I use very thick fluid? I'm not sure, but no problems though. Just dropped it in like as if it was a factory upgrade with no modifications. I did notice the screws on the diff brush against the metal mount slightly, but not enough to impede the ability to drive it smoothly that I've noticed.

    Will the 38 spur work on the arrma Typhon

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes... it's the Integy 38t HPI 1/8 Apache SC & C1 Flux Dessert Buggy Spur. It fits the stock center diff and it took me to 96mph. It will also make your esc and motor heat up. Off-road use is not recommended if you install it, on-road only!!!! You might also want to put shims between the spur and and diff motor mount to prevent rubbing although it didn't noticeably cause trouble while running it, there were rub marks on the screws and motor mount.

      @TheDeterminedFisherman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, for both Kraton and Typhon and if I'm not mistaken, maybe even the Senton and Talion too.
      I installed that spur on my Typhon and got 96mph. The only bad thing that happened that was that the screws that hold the spur onto the diff rubbed against the motor/diff mount a little leaving marks. This video above shows the marks I'm talking about at the 21 minute 40 second time mark of the video. I couldn't tell I was having that problem and I believe it had the capability to achieve more than 96mph if it wasn't rubbing. Some people said to add shims to keep it from rubbing and wobbling. Here's a link to a run video I used it in. th-cam.com/video/iTb1mlvi4cg/w-d-xo.html

    • @TheDeterminedFisherman
      @TheDeterminedFisherman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem. Thank you. I feel you on not wanting to mess up your investment. As for diff gaskets, I'm not totally sure because I've never really look for those. For the diff fluids on my speed run rc's, I personally use the brand Team Associated 200k CST in front, 200k CST in the center, and 7k CST in the rear. A hobby shop guy told me that with a 4x4 rc, you'll want to have most of the power generated in the center and also in the front so that if you end up gunning it it'll have less trouble with handling because having serious power going mostly to the rear will create tailspin/fishtailing. The thicker the fluid you use the more power its going to disperse which will cause more stress on all the attached drive components and act closer to a locked diff or spool. Those diffs heat up quite a bit depended on how frequent it's ran without cool down time. Some people have experienced their diff melt. Hot Racing sells an aluminum center diff (FYI) if you plan on sticking to using a center diff. If it's raw insane speed you want, I'd suggest in looking into replacing your center diff with a spool. Also keep in mind that if you plan on running off-road, I wouldn't use high gear ratios nor a center spool because it will blow your motor, esc, and put hard stress on your lipos with mad heat all around. All the stuff I'm suggesting here is for on-road only and you'll want to use a temperature checker to make sure the temps stay well below 160F. Solder starts to melt away and electronic tend to short circuit and fry. I don't really have knowledge of off-road fluid usage, but I do know if you have a 50T mod 1 spur, you'll want to run with a pinion that is 16T and lower. I have a video where I used a 50T spur with a 22T pinion on my Kraton off-road and the esc kept cutting off on me every time I came close to full throttle until it just started cutting off completely from all the heat generated. Luckily the esc had heat protection (or so I'm assuming) and nothing got damaged from the heat. I use the "Duratrax FlashPoint" and here is a link to Amazon below.
      www.amazon.com/Duratrax-Flashpoint-Infrared-Temperature-Gauge/dp/B00144E8A4/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1507069408&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=duratrax+temp+checker

      Oh...I'm thinking the liquid electrical tape and other regular electrical gave that appearance, but I can assure you that ever rc I have runs either in series or single pack. :-)
