This is super rad, haha. Many overlanders always romanticize this nomadic lifestyle in their social media posts but never wanna talk about the bathroom situation.
Love it....”if you haven’t pooped outside, you haven’t lived yet”. Oh such a true statement. I have a homemade solar shower. Video on that will be out soon.
You guys make great videos. Easy and funny to watch! I am an overlander too, and we checked out ur videos with some other overlanders, specially because we are planning on going for the fourwheel camper on a pickup too. We gave u a nickname when we want to check some stuff u post, it is: "If we ever need to", It goes with love! You said that so much when you made the tour around the tundra! Again, u guys are funny, lovely and geniuses! Cheers guys! All the best!
Funny that you say that, because I was so bummed about that. It wasn't obvious until after the edit. In the end though that is kind of what Overlanding is all about... we drive these ridiculous rigs around that are overloaded with gear that is there for "in the event we need it" Which I now know is obvious! ;) Glad you guys get something out of all of this!
@@BoundForNowhere please don't get the wrong idea, ur videos are great, u guys are ultra cute, and there is nothing wrong with the "if we ever need to". And I completely agree with that, our rigs are a lot about things u might end up using. One thing we were amazed by after 2 years, is the fact that a bunch of stuff we though we would end up getting rid of halfway, ended up being super useful. In the end, for us, we ended up using most of the stuff we carried, and that also happened to some fellow overlanders. So, I would say that the "if we ever need to" is an essential cannot-go-without practice! Thanks for replying! Cheers!
I am bougie because I need a shower once or twice a day. Even if it is just a couple of water bottles. When over in the Helmand and such we would warm our water bottles by motor or sun. 3 - 4 liter bottles are plenty to shower. Also put a yea bag of two in the bottle to sit in the sun for ice tea!
Todd Carichner na u just as nasty as them one bath a week ? Then they put that dirty tp in the camper of like 65 sq feet. Your crazy I’ll leave it next to the shit and away from my camper. Nature got bigger things to deal with like plastic. So leaving the tp shouldn’t be a problem.
we have a toyhome so we do have a shower but we use a weed sprayer in it we can both shower with about 1 gal so makes water last longer works great all most as good as any shower, we did get a longer hose for it
I envy you guys so much ! I want to do this myself but until then I live this life vicariously through you both. Much love and I am a dedicated, envious and dreaming of the day watcher of your vlogs ❤
Great vid! Can you do a video on what you had to upgrade on the Tundra to support all the extra weight of the camper setup? Suspension, airbags, springs, etc.
72, the number of days I have gone without a "shower" But this was while deployed overseas. Your advice is spot on. I like to shower daily when at home and doing work but in the field/woods five days is the max unless the swimming is increased. Thanks again, love you guys!
We use a 12V shower (plugs into car outlet) and it's essentially just a shower head, some vinyl hose and a small pump at the end. Advantage to that is that you don't need to use onboard water, downside is there's no water heater. We have a small popup shower tent and you can get both the shower and the tent for under $60 online. I always bring 3 homer buckets - one for showers, one for grey water and one for a handwash station (yes, sorry, I'm OCD about washing hands). To get a warm shower, grab some water from a lake or stream, heat part of it in a pot, mix to nice temp and have a shower. 2 or 3 gallons do nicely for 2 people. For shower reasons we tend to camp near a source of water at least twice a week and since you shouldn't drink the water, grabbing water from a lake or river for a shower is perfectly ok and it conserves your drinking water supply.
When I go overlanding with the tent, I use my luggable loo toilet and biodegradable body wipes. That works just fine for me. When I'm boondocking with the RV, I have a full shower and bath, but limited water and sewer tank space (small RV = small tanks). So, I supplement showers with the biodegradable body wipes and ensure I at least wash my lady parts once per day, even if that's ALL I wash. I also use my luggable loo instead of the onboard toilet when I'm boondocking. That helps my 40 gallon tank last a full week or longer while still cleaning up daily. I never use public toilets or public showers.
I am one with the added feature of a receding hairline, so I just keep the rest buzzed off to match. With that, I am easily cleaned while traveling with an unscented baby wipe soaked with warm water. One and done! Your video on pooping in the woods reminds me that I need to get a dedicated folding shovel for the truck.
always love your videos!! can you do one explaining how you clean your clothes? I've never gotten the hang of it on the road, I know there are laundromats and waterproof bags and stuff but none of it has ever been particularly graceful.
Try using baking soda as a deodorant. Commercial deodorants only mask body scents which aren't caused not by your sweat, but by bacteria. Baking soda changes the acidity level and the bacteria are gone. Old backpackers trick. I also use baking soda as toothpaste when I am out since it uses less water, less foam, less mess and less weight. Helpful video!
Oh! I will try just using baking soda as a deodorant. Thanks! I've been using it for toothpaste for the last 3 years and LOVE it for that. My teeth feel so much cleaner.
Great tips you guys! We know how amazing those Flying J showers are; totally worth it. Another trick we have is our Planet Fitness membership. About $22/mo gets both of us in for a workout+shower whenever we find ourselves in urban/suburban areas. All this bc we've always used the shower area in our rig for storage. Oh yeah, showers or using the bathroom in the wilderness beats every other option! 🙌😆🚿🚽
We've heard great things about Planet Fitness. Sadly Owen and I have weird aversions to regular gyms and that is honestly the only reason we haven't gone down that path!
@@BoundForNowhere that's hilarious bc I hate public gyms, but Nadia loves them so I totally get it. I caved & signed up... Anything for a hot shower I guess! 🤷♂️🤣
Have you tried a Backpacker Bidet instead of TP for your "wilderpoo"? I switched to a backpacker bidet for my JMT trip in 2014 and I've never looked back!
@@BoundForNowhere I have one called "Boulder Bidet"; it's not currently available but you can still see what it looks like on Amazon. It's a squeezable 8oz bottle with a sprayer nozzle that you use to squirt water on your parts. I imagine it'd be useful to you guys on the road in addition to on backpacking trips! It's soooo much better than TP for about 100 reasons, number one being that you feel cleaner. My bf uses a dedicated bandana to dry off but I just drip-dry.
Seriously feel the need for a "femme" hygiene on the road-video haha. I am planning to bring a menstrual cup on the road but that is easiest to use together with a sink and that won't really be available in our rig, at least not close to the toilet.
Oh I've seen other travellers and apparently diva cup is one of the best options, you need a cup of boiling water to clean the cup. Like wipe it first, then wash your hands and the cup with the same water and same very mild detergent (like consider getting one of those foam pumps that use water + liquid soap, I have some and it lasts for a long time). If you have a few min to spare, wash it in a half cup of boiling water (it surprisingly doesn't require a lot if you have a cup that fits nicely and let it warm up for a bit, then let it cool in a clean tissue paper and back on.
Great video ! Good info , but one question to a home owner type lol where do you get rid of the number 2 bag ? Lots of videos on people who have like nature head systems or like you no facilities but no one says where to get rid of it ? Just curious ?
Awesome Vid... As James said, tastefully done and thanks for the insight on reality on the road... Q - So between the occasions of having a shower, do you rotate clothing? Judging on the vid on "Packing Clothes for Full-Time Life on the Road", it goes without saying that it could be a challenge especially when opportunities to do laundry are limited?
We have a pop up camper and make use of the lug aloo, it's easily stored, and can be deodorized....no trips to the outside during the night, or if that emergency need happens while driving...in camper privacy, no bare bum to the world...then dispose of accordingly....Never leave or discard the T P...bag it, dispose of it appropriately. We all have to "do it"...so, deal with it...nature calls..
Honestly since going on the road we really don't get sick NEARLY as often as we used to! I think it has something to do with being around less people. When we do get sick we try to move slow and if we're really wanting a little pick me us we will get a cheap hotel so we can take warm baths
Great video. When working I showered every morning. Now I'm retired and I shower every evening, but it's a quick one. Not sure what I'll do when I finish my van and hit the road. It will have a shower in it.
Hi Guys, really informative as usual and a sometimes tricky subject too...poo! It's the wee bacteria that causes body odour so anti-bacterial wipes are the business all the way. Never tried a solar shower...yet, but it seems ok. Truck stops sound amazing, and warm towels...really decadent, huh? Stay safe guys and keep up the good work. .😎
Thanks ,honest I was listening but you're truck was very distracting my mind kept wondering off . We use most of what you suggested we also use the large baby wipes from REI to clean up . As far as toilet paper we burn it with a small BIC lighter . Keep up the excellent info.
Also like that guy said lime and lemon just like your peppermint shower gel is good for antibacterial purposes on everything. Get your oils from town or fresh and kill and clean.
I get it with the shower but you get the shits for 2 days straight, your in a little trouble. especially if its in the middle of the night. then you have to clean your ass good like 10xs because you have to go every hour. shitting in a box? I think I rather shit in a bag and call it a day.
