    I put my 5-gallon bucket inside one of those collapsible ottomans which you can find for next to nothing. Sturdy. No tipping. No sliding around. Serves as a stool. I love it.

    • @freethemcgees
      @freethemcgees  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Before making our own, we searched for an ottoman that would work for our potty. Sadly, the dimensions were not right for ours, so we took a stab at making our own and it worked out alright. It's a little heavy, but it's definitely not going anywhere while were driving! :)

    The five gallon bucket is top heavy, as you mentioned, and the height make storage more challenging. I found a shorter bucket with the same opening at the top, so the snap on toilet seat fits perfectly. I picked up the short bucket from an oil recycling center a number of years ago.

    Thanks so much for elaborating on how you made this toilet work for you. You've helped solidify (pardon the pun) my decision to go with this as well.😉👍

      You're welcome! We know it's not for everyone, but hoped that in explaining why we went this way it would help others think about how the various kinds might work (or not) for them. So glad we could help! 😁

    When I go camping I have the five gallon bucket just like you showing in the video here I took a camping chair cut a circle out and I stuck it in the camping chair so when you're sitting in the camping chair you can go potty and no one even knows you're on it,use a blanket on your lap and it doesn't tip ..I put velcro on a thin pillow on top ..it works great take hiking light weight chair in a bag and I put my tent in a plastic bag carry in bucket...with organic cat flower litter
    pellets from Bi-mart

    • @susandhays1640
      @susandhays1640 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also I use the the organic bags and I always lined it with two of them and then when I came to an outdoor toilet or something I just throw it in there because it's by Elder gradable they worked great

    • @freethemcgees
      @freethemcgees  ปีที่แล้ว

      We plan to test bio-degradable bags in the future to see how they hold up with several days use as well as testing some new products for odor control that have been suggested by viewers. We're hoping to tweak our system without sacrificing space or performance. Thanks for your input!

    Thk u 4 all the info. I had that toilet first but didn't know or think it was good enough so I bought the other toilets only to find out I already had the best thing going 😉.
    I also got the pet pads to go in for big jobs but I like what you have shared and will use it and pass it along to others. Again I say thank you for everything.

    I had all 3 of those and ended up with travel tips which is a small bucket system. I use eco gel powder. It has padded seat

    • @freethemcgees
      @freethemcgees  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We love Eco Gel! W talked about it in another video. It has such a pleasant smell and really does cover odor well. It's just so expensive. We switched to Lysal, which does not smell like lemon, but has the same solidifying power. If Eco Gel ever gets their price in line or at least offers a cheaper bulk product bottle vs the individual packets we would definitely switch back!

    You've covered a sensitive subject with grace and good manners. Crap table... I see what he did there. 🤣🤣🤣
    70 yr old female, who's thankful for healthy hips and back. For liquid waste, I use a wide mouth plastic jar-- empty Costco mixed nuts jar. Otherwise, I've been using a 3 gallon bucket. It's the same size across/around as the 5 gallon, but less prone to tip. I don't use a toilet seat, because I find that a gamma seal provides enough comfort for me. I know that as I get older, I'll have to reconsider my set up, but for now it fits my small truck canopy lifestyle.

    • @freethemcgees
      @freethemcgees  ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried the jar thing, let's just say I had a little cleanup to do when I was done. Thank goodness it was in the tent and not the van! My balance is horrible! Another subscriber mentioned that there is a ring you can put on the bottom of the bucket that keeps it from tipping. It was called the Shurhold 240 bucket base. Thought I'd pass that along in case you find yourself needing a little extra stability someday. :)

      This is a clear example of minimalism and utilitarianism in design. The aesthetic aspect is not emphasized, but the functionality is prioritized over the appearance. This is a reasonable choice for some as function is the primary concern - form is more about personal appeal and therefore highly subjective. 👍💯!

    Where does everyone dispose of these bags if you are in the city?

    • @freethemcgees
      @freethemcgees  ปีที่แล้ว

      Anywhere you would normally dispose of dog waste is acceptable. I wouldn't recommend just dropping it in any dumpster without first knowing how the business owner deals with such practices. Some businesses really frown on this. But public trash receptacles are fair game if the waste is bagged correctly and dog waste is accepted as a general practice.

      I simply lay a paper towel over the opening and problem solved. If you happen to carry puppy pads, they are a bit more rigid, but the paper towels work just fine.

      @itsnmynature4882 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We put our bucket inside a milk crate for stability, and use pine pellets for odor and absorption. But I have always hated the condensation! It is really my only complaint with the system. Thanks for the paper towel/puppy pad tip.

    • @CGStaggs
      @CGStaggs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@itsnmynature4882 I also used the crate and the pine pellets (pellets - best method EVER!!!). I have since switched from the crate to one of those collapsible ottomans. I love the bucket method. If necessary, I could use the bucket to carry wood, water, etc. I've watched all the videos on the fancy shmancy toilets, but they'll have to pry my bucket out of my cold, dead hands. ;-)
