Beautiful mackie mate, i can't tell you my pb, no one would believe me, lets just say he was north of 2m long and over 50kg, i would say your 1 was about 21 to 22kg and i caught mine on a gar rigged woghead
I live in Florida and that looks like what we call a King Mackerel. Is it the same? If so, about 40 lbs or 18 kg. Love this vids! Happy Easter from the US!
Great video mate. Been on total lockdown for 28 days here in the Canaries with fishing being banned for at least another 14 days. One of your videos came up as a youtube recommendation on day one of the lockdown, so subscribing to your channel and watching every single one of your videos has been one of the things that's kept me sane so far. Thanks & keep up the great work. I have since recommended your channel to several of my closest friends. Happy Easter & peace for humanity.
Hey Awesome Mackerel Catch and Cook video Sammy !! Keep up the amazing work Sammy !! Thanks for the hard work and dedication you put into making these awesome videos for us Sammy !! I can’t wait for the next video Sammy !! Cheers William !!
Mate!! Congratulations!! That one an awesome vid again and a stonker Spaniard!! Its locked down where I am and I can't wet a line so this was the next best thing...Spaniards are my favourite fish to catch and it was pure joy watching this...your offshore pelagic vids are always the best!!
I bet your method of filleting those mackerel is one of the best. I worked in a wholesale seafood distributor for high end restaurants on the west coast of USA for a bit of time. Actually worked in a little retail fish market attached to the warehouse. We received seafood from around the world, every type a chef might want. Best work lunches ever, EVER. Anyway, the point is the crew of cutters that handled every type of fish you can imagine didn't really make up any new methods or play with it, they cut fast and according to instructions given a long time ago. Great bunch of guys, super efficient filleters. But you get to think about it, they dont, they have a freezer 30 feet tall full of fish waiting to be cut and shipped. The 'leave the fillet barely attached, make all your cuts' method, dude that is genius and I am using it on every fish except maybe a halibut, it makes perfect sense, it keeps the spine straight and (I suspect) makes the fillets easier to retrieve and better cleaner cut fillets. Cannot wait to try it. I worked in other seafood shops where I did some cutting as well. Processed small sharks for packaged dried shark jerky at one point. Nothing like filleting 500 sharks at a time, miserable. Long time ago, I wouldn't get involved in that kind of ecological abuse anymore.
@@SammyHitzkeFishing Here is something you might find useful. You know the Chinese BBQ sauce Char Siu that they make that red pork with? I just used it mixed with sweet chili oil and some Ponzu sauce to panko crust rockfish. Never tried this before, had no eggs and wanted panko, its freakin good if you like the flavors in those sauces. Just dipped the bite sized pieces of rockfish fillet in the mixture for about 20 minutes of soak, then used the sauce to get the panko to stick, went back and forth sauce to panko, letting the sauce get panko in it. Over rice, its way better than I had ever even hoped.
I been waiting for your new Video Sammy finally and its my favorite Trolling! Envy you guys are not lockdown but keep safe and thanks for bringing us to sea by your video.
Never had an idea how to remove hook quickly and simple until I saw that tool in your vids. Always struggle using pliers haha guess i will make one. Nice mackie mate, strewth!
Ahh, the memories, I well remember the 28kg mac that we were lucky enough to snag, the short version is as I lifted it into the boat I slid my hand down the gaff to get more leverage the fish shook his head resulting in the tendons on my right thumb being severed....... a 2.5 hour boat ride back in, a 2 hour drive to the nearest hospital and micro surgery to repair the damage. Watching you, bought back all those memories....... worse of all, I was skipper and did not get an ounce of the fish to eat.
Great video Sammy. You certainly put in the hours so you deserve the results. My PB is 14 kg and I was happy as with that. Happy Easter mate, looking forward to seeing more.
Hi Sammy, love the channel. Little tip for really big mackies i.e. over 30kg our best out of Dampier W.A went 42kg and every mack over 30kg has been caught on a live Gold Spot Trevally 1-2kg big bait big fish. Our best fish are late Sept,Oct breeding run around the full moon. All the best
ozfishwa Cheers mate! That’s interesting! We don’t get many gold spots over here where I am, but apparently the big boys like eating school mackerel! Going to try it this winter! 🍻🍻
Oh nice nice ones man, we have a species similar to those here in Trinidad but it’s difficult to catch them that big, I got a vid with a few, I wish I can do that some day
Sir would like to ask where to buy those hook with weight that are hooked below the bait lips color red. Which is best to put at the tail of the bait treble or single hook.
Kevin Jay Sta. Maria I use a combination of both hooks. Haven’t really found one to be better then the other. You can buy the from most tackle store here in Australia 👍
Hey mate great Vid. I’m up in Mackay and use rubber bands on the ganged hooks from office works. Rarely miss a hit and the boats don’t get clogged up. Ribbon fish work amazing up here not sure if you can get on the Goldie...keep up the great Vids cheers 👍🏻
3003damo Yeah Nice mate! I might have to give it a try! Less holes in the baits would be awesome! They’d last lots longer! Do you have the hook points facing down?
Grip N Rip Fishing Only thing I do is pat them dry with paper towel to get rid of some moisture, then vac pack and freeze! Last for 12months if you do it like that!

The weight of that bigger Mackie was quite interesting. I caught one a couple weeks back that was 27kg and 1.51m long. Our fish were around the same length but were 6kgs difference. Just thought that was interesting anyways great vid Sammy keep it up mate
Hey mate I saw that u were running 2 swivels close together. Just wondering why and also did u go wire swivel mono braid. Or do u only run 50 meters of mono when u trawl high speed.
Brett Nosworthy I have a ball bearing snap swivel at the end of my wind on leader to clip on traces then I also have a swivel on the end of the trace so I can just clip it straight onto the rod. I have a 50-70m mono top then braid backing so I can fit heaps more on there 👌👌🍻🍻
Every video you put out is absolute gold! Any tips for the South passage bar or do you leave through the top of moreton? What weather/swell conditions do you swear by for getting offshore? Cheers for the vids and very jealous of that macky!
Dan Watts I usually head round the top of moreton mate. No real favourite conditions. When the weathers good I go! No use waiting for everything to line up! You’d never get out! 🍻🍻
Sammy, I don't expect a reply being an old video but just in case you do. Did you eat that 20kg + Spanish, if so what do you do to ensure you dont get ciguatera poisoning. Great channel keep it up.
Hey legends Happy Easter!! Hope your all safe and well. What’s your PB Spanish mackerel and what did you catch it on?!? 🍻🍻
Sammy Hitzke Fishing only a 102cm caught on a trolling hard body minnow. Great to hear your reel screaming as it took off.
