This tutorial is like a lighthouse in the fog. You've laid out the pen n node tools in clear practical usable detail. Also I like your clear diction, no razzamataz - no fluff. Just good old fashioned tutoring, passing on of knowledge. Well done, keep up the good work. I am knew to art n knew to digital art, I need this kind of tutoring to show me the way. Thank you.
Thanks Stephen, I appreciate the feedback on the tutorial and my style and glad it's of use to you. Check out my other videos too. All the same pace and style
Brilliant, clear and easy to follow tutorial! I learned everything important I needed to get started on my first project. Thank You!! Best Educational video I have found on this.
Fantastic! I'm happy to hear that. My other videos will be a good help too. Good luck
I saw the runtime of this video and thought, "No way. I'm not watching a 1 hr. and 20 minute video which could have been an email!"
I was completely wrong! This is incredible. Thank you for taking the time and meticulous care to craft this video. Cheers!
Thank you, I'm very happy to hear that
Absolutely Brilliant Tutorial! The best pen tool video I've seen.

@@ArtistWright You're welcome! You did a superb job 👊🏾
I have been designing for over two decades. This is the ONLY tutorial that has ever made sense of the pen tool for me. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your channel. Your videos have made me a better designer. 💜
Best comment ever thank you!
This is an absolute gold mine. I wish I could hit thumbs up more than once. No where on the internet is there such a detailed explanation of the pen and node tools, not even in their own book.
I can't thank enough. I have learnt more in the last hour than I did in months of searching and experimenting.
Hi Jim, Thank you so much for leaving such an awesome comment. I made this video because in the early days of learning Affinity Designer there wasn't any detailed videos, so alot of my knowledge has come from trial and error and the workbook. So for this video I wanted to include solutions to all the annoyances i experienced back then :)
Absolutely agree. This is an excellent, clear and concise explanation of the pen tool. Liked and subbed. Looking forward to more from ArtistWright, sir!
Thanks Tim!
So much of what I've been looking to learn is here. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
The best tutorial on Affinity Designer pen tool so far. Thank you, and keep them coming.
Thank you Michael that's awesome to hear that.

So many tricks and details I would have never discovered they exist and how to use them by myself.
Great job by explaining them step by step.
Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks Augusto

I have just found this site - it is clearly the best I have seen. I am new to Affinity Designer 2. I now feel I have some hope of learning the program. Thank you for the clear concise manner in which you present the videos. There is NO doubt you are a TOP instructor, and to give your time so freely on the "net" is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Excellent tutorial! I have a good grasp of Affinity Photo but only use the pen & node tool for selections. Lately my grand daughter has asked me to trace her drawings and so I needed to up my skill with these tools. Your teaching style matches my learning style - thank you!!!
That's wonderful to hear! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this awesome tutorial.

Hey Sascha thanks for the feedback
Wow, several answers to several questions I've had...GREAT VIDEO ! Thanks, new sub !!!
Glad to hear it! Thank you
Great video, learned a lot, thank you! 👏😊👍
Cheers
Excellent tutorial, thank you. I dived straight into Affinity and just worked it out as I went along so it's great to see some of the finer points here that I would never have noticed on my own. Really helpful.
Hi Lorraine, I did the same myself at first I think it's the best way, just press all the buttons and see what happens. But when it comes to the finer things it would be hard to just come across it. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it
Absolutely brilliant...
Thanks Dave
This is an absolute gold mine. I agree!

Amazing tutorial thanks
Cheers Juan
Oh!! excellent tutorial, i was looking for a way to alter the strokes like you can do it on illustrator and that pressure options was all that i was looking for. Totally useful.

Great to hear Szczere
This is an absolutely amazing tutorial! Thank you for your time and effort! I really liked that you traced the shark at the end so that we can see those tools in action and how to work with them and fix mistakes.
That's great to hear thanks Denise
Great tutorial! I've been able to learn so much in just 3 days, can't wait to apply this for my schoolworks. Thanks ArtistWright!

Thanks Terry
Thank you so much for the video ❤ and for correctly painting second fin 😅🐟
😂 My pleasure
This is really really amazing.. probably the most useful tutorial for me on here. I learn a lot just few minutes in especially on shortcut keys that I never tried before. And it's really easy to understand and follow along.. Thank you so so so much for this I'm not even halfway the video yet. Thanks again!
My pleasure!
This was amazing. Good job m8!
Thanks Angel! Glad you liked it
One of the most helpful AD tutorials I've ever come across. Everything works except for the handle manipulation described at 16:38
I'm using the latest version, so it's possible that this is a functionality they decided to remove, although I can't imagine why since it looks like a useful time saver.
Hello there and thanks for your comment much appreciated. That handle manipulation you speak of still exists. In 2.1 I just tested it out. You have to be on the node tool then hold control, click and drag. I am on a mac so if you are using windows I'm not sure of the correct button for that
thanks 😊 awesome tutorial
Cheers!
Great tutorial.
Glad you liked it!
Much appreciation for ArtistWright masterful tutorials that always enhance my designing experience. Precise production, video & instruction excels at directing attention for optimum operation & workflow with Affinity Designer's elegant, essential pen/node tools.
Ryco! Good to hear from you, thanks for the epic comment, truly appreciate it
I love your celebration brush set :)
thank you!
Job well done . Thanks
Thank you Sam
Another great, in-depth tutorial!
You wouldn’t happen to have a copy of this video sitting on a cloud somewhere, would you? Downloading videos on an iPad is next to impossible!!! Much appreciated.
Sorry I don't, if you have the TH-cam app on the iPad it's easy enough to watch
I agree with all the other comments. I'm new to designer and have to say yours are the best and easiest to follow by a long way. Thankyou
Thank you so much!
Best explanatory video I've seen
Thank you, i basically made the video I wish I saw when I first started learning Affinity Designer
Nice tutorial, I need this
Thanks!
This unlocked so much for me I have struggled so much learning Affinity Designer Thanks.
Glad to helping others level up! Cheers
Fantastic, great teaching style and content thank you. Subbed.
Thanks Jackster! I appreciate it
Thanks for the help with the pen tool. I am currently doing a vector trace of DB Super Goku and I've been battling with curved and sharp nodes
Thanks for watching Manuel.
Thank you SO much for your tutorial 👍
No problem! Thanks for watching
Just brilliant. !
Cheers Kristl
Your tutorial is very helpful and clear, thank You!
I was used to older simpler tools and had not used them for years. Affinity is used differently but more powerful and this video helped a lot.
You are welcome Peter! do check out my other tutorials. Affinity is great isn't it
As many of us already said: this is a great in-depth tutorial. I will def come back to it to get the routine needed. Would appreciate a short version of it for the iPad: all those small icons there are hard to figure out. Thank you for this one!
Thank you, I've never tried the iPad version as I don't have an ipad. But I'm sure that will change. It looks fantastic.
great tuts!
Thank you Gia

Thanks Tayo
Heyy, Thanks for your hard work! I'm sure all the people here appreciate your teaching :)
Thank you Amirul!
this is an excellent video, thank you ;-)
Thank you Angelika!
Just what I've been looking for. Superb tutorial, excellent clearly spoken English with every step shown and highlighted in detail without showmanship or entertainment gloss. I'm an old Adobe user (as in the days of BW CRT monitors) now retired and can no longer justify Adobe subscription after giving them buckets of dosh over the years. Looking forward to learning more about Affinity with your help. I have followed you on Twitter.
Hi Robert, thank you for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it. I hope you find the rest of my tutorials just as useful. I will be uploading more when I get the time. Also thanks for the follow on twitter, it's a bit more messy there and not always about Affinity FYI 👍🏻
Really helpful! So crystal clear explained... thank you so much!
No worries! Thanks for watching
Big time thanks for this tutorial. Was stuck on how to convert a sharp on a single side of a smooth node. Did a face palm around time stamp 16:05. Thanks again!
My pleasure, thanks for watching
Thank you for uploading this amazing video, clear instructions and taking into account beginner mistakes. Look forward to more videos
Thank you so much! I appreciate it
Please could you make a video on how to create a coloring page; similar to your shark tutorial. Possibly tracing a background picture. Thank you
@@peace.n.blessings5579 thanks for the input. I'll keep it in mind
Thank you
Thanks for watching, check out my other videos too. All Affinity Designer.
It is the pen tool in conjunction with the node tool that help to make Affinity Designer a top-notch vector design application.
Totally agree! 👍🏻
@@ArtistWright Are you on facebook?

But... Your tuts are fantastic. Thanks a lot.
Thanks you Andre
I'm just starting to try to work with affinity designer, and found your tutorial informative and pitched at the right level for me as a beginner. i loved being able to find the same image and then follow your steps bit-by-bit until i understood what i was doing wrong. I found the MAC commands somewhat confusing and typically would expect a reference to the windows alternative at some point but having just read your description fully, you do describe them there, so my bad entirely. thanks so much for this.
Hi Kerry I'm happy to hear that!
You are a great tutor and thanks for patiently putting this together with such finesse and agree with all the comments below. I was looking at the mine of information on your website and it is fabulous. One major issue that is of benefit to the beginner i.e ME IS THAT you dont keep switching between MAC and Window commands and keep to Mac albeit you have put a useful table of alternative window commands up so that makes a huge difference as believe me I have some lessons where that happens all the time and it creates a fog and note the same comment was made below by SW where your style is nice and clear. I have wasted so much time replaying videos where the tutor/demonstrator even makes a mistake by having to correct ie starts of with Mac and constantly gives tries to give both windows and command and then inadvertently flips them themselves which means wondering why it is not working only to find it is not the "student" fault but this issue.
Thank you Nigel, I totally hear you in regards to the mac / pc shortcut keys. I only use a mac so don't want to confuse things further by reeling out a bunch of shortcuts for both whilst designing. Like you say I have included some windows relevant shortcuts in the description so I'm glad you found that. Happy designing and have a happy new year Nigel
THANKS!!!!
Thanks for watching!
really very interesting! I'm curious to see how it works on iPad now.
Cheers
