Given that the rest of the world is quarantining and investing trillions into containing this outbreak, you can bet that we'd want to cut trade ties and impose severe travel restrictions on the US if they just let the outbreak spread unchecked, because letting potentially infected people in from the US would undermine everything we've worked to prevent.
It would not just mean the death of millions of Americans, it would also harm your economy beyond repair in the long run.

It's not just about how capitalist US can take care of patients "better" than socialized healthcare countries. Prevention is first step so you don't have to even go to taking care of patients until it's necessary.
In Finland we have our most highly populated region which is also most infected closed. No travel in or out without very good reason. During Easter some idiots drove to border only to get forced to turn around by police. Many fines were given out to repeat offenders for disobeying the order.

Can we just appreciate that this man is apparently a lawyer, however in all of his years at law school and years in practice he has yet to understand how to make a coherent argument

this guy makes me so mad. "The deathrate is one percent or even lower." Yeah,no. For example, in Italy there are currently more than 80.000 infected people and more than 8000 died already. Thats a deathrate of 10 percent! in Spain it's currently at seven percent. While i admit that these are two of the countrys most affected by the virus, even the WHO estimates a deathrate of arround 4 percent. What makes this guy think that America is immune against the virus spreading in a similar way or even worse. I live in Germany and we are lucky to have a relatively low deathrate, with 43.000 infected and "only" 270 dead. But we all know that that could change in a matter of days, so most of us are reasonable and stay at home (We had to have our government introduce certain rules, tho, because people are idiots and only care about themselves, so if you for example have a Party outside you can get fined etc.) We HAVE to flatten the curve to prevent our healthcare system from collapsing and causing even more peolpe to die. And thats the case in every country right now. Yes, there are major problems when it comes to the economy right now all around the world that need to be fixed but this guy is seriously underestimating the seriousness of a worldwide pandemic with potentially millions of deaths.

The guy he's debating seems super partisan and has an answer (not saying they're good) for every legitimate point Destiny talks about. Seems incapable of admitting when Republicans or Trump do negative things or have negative policies or actions.

if you have never had pneumonia please know that a disease like this that is so hard hitting respiratorily will DISABLE you for life if you are not treated properly and urgently.
and god forbid it passed to someone like me who has asthma, or immune system deficiences, or the elderly. it can and will take peace from your life and give you chronic illness. this is a pandemic to be taken seriously.

Yea, I definitely don't miss the right wing debates as much as I thought I did. These people are truly insufferable and long gone. We need to try and find people that are still slipping down the slope toward full on reality distortion. Once they're there, it's useless talking with them.

As someone from the UK, the NHS has been underfunded for years partly due to austerity measures from conservative governments. To suggest the NHS is failing under it's own weight is a total misrepresentation.
Also our response to the pandemic was very late.

Commercial litigation. Law is hyper specialized, knowing how to handle yourself in one branch does not mean you know anything about Constitutional law.

Yeah, I wouldn’t expect a patent lawyer to have specialization and technical knowledge in divorce proceedings. However, I would expect both a patent lawyer and divorce lawyer to be trained in a similar way of thinking. Some specific skills in deductive and inductive logic; I’d expect all lawyers to be similarly trained in a sound way of discerning information.
